Chapter 188 - Chapter 188: Xiao Yan — Actually, I'm the Victim

The spatial tunnel they traveled through had been created by experts of the Ancient Void Dragon Clan. Renowned for their mastery over space, the clan's spatial pathways were far more stable and efficient than others. As a result, a journey that would have typically taken several hours via a normal wormhole took less than an hour.

As Xiao Yan and Zi Yan emerged from the spatial passage, a massive island appeared before them. Xiao Yan was momentarily stunned—this enormous island was actually floating in the void. No wonder he'd never been able to locate the Void Dragon Clan in his previous life, even when he had wanted to raid their treasure hoards. So, this was where they had been hiding.

"This is Dragon Island. Let's go!" Zi Yan said excitedly. Clearly, she was familiar with the place. She grabbed Xiao Yan's arm and led him down toward an opulent-looking structure below. With his Heaven-grade soul perception, Xiao Yan could distinctly sense many auras on the island—several even rivaled Yao Lao's.

What surprised him, however, wasn't how strong Dragon Island was, but how weak it was—at least compared to his expectations.

In his past life, Xiao Yan hadn't had much contact with the Ancient Void Dragon Clan, but he had exterminated the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan. He was intimately familiar with their strength. Logically, the Void Dragon Clan should have been stronger, yet the number and quality of Dou Saints here fell well short of the Sky Demon Phoenixes.

With this doubt in mind, Xiao Yan followed Zi Yan down into a magnificent great hall. As soon as he landed, several powerful forces of pressure abruptly fell upon him. Sensing the crushing force, Xiao Yan narrowed his eyes slightly and released a surge of spiritual energy from his brow, isolating himself from the oppressive auras.

"Oh?" A voice tinged with surprise came from within the hall. A moment later, three figures silently appeared before the pair. Seeing them, Zi Yan tugged at Xiao Yan's sleeve and whispered, "These are our Dragon Island's three Grand Elders."

Xiao Yan glanced at the trio and narrowed his eyes slightly. Of the three, only one had a cultivation he could roughly gauge—on par with Yao Lao. The other two completely eluded his soul probe, meaning they were likely true Dou Saints, and powerful ones at that.

"Young and already at seven-star Dou Zun, with a Heaven-grade soul. It seems that Yao Chen really did take in an outstanding disciple," the leading elder said as he studied Xiao Yan. "I am Zhu Huo, the First Elder of Dragon Island."

Xiao Yan responded politely with a bow. "Junior Xiao Yan greets the Elders."

To be honest, if he'd walked into any other place and was immediately suppressed by such force, he'd have turned and walked away without hesitation. But this was Zi Yan's clan, so he held back and remained courteous. Of course, if these old men pushed their luck, he wouldn't bother being nice.

"Enough with the formalities. I believe you know why we summoned you," Zhu Huo's tone darkened, and a wave of pressure surged toward Xiao Yan. "Zi Yan carries royal blood. She is the future Dragon Sovereign of our Ancient Void Dragon Clan. We typically wouldn't interfere in matters of marriage…"

"But… Her Majesty is still young, and there are things she may not fully understand. In such circumstances, she is easily misled by those with ill intent. And you—having deceived her and taken her body—clearly lack integrity."

"Uh, excuse me, Elder Zhu Huo, but I think you've got this all wrong…" Just as the tension in the air grew thick enough to cut, Zi Yan coughed awkwardly and said, "Back then, Xiao Yan didn't deceive me. It was me who forced him…"

"…Huh?" The three elders, who were moments away from unleashing righteous fury, all blinked in confusion. They had assumed that Xiao Yan had seduced or manipulated Zi Yan, but it now seemed like he was the victim.

Zi Yan quickly gave them a rough version of events. When she explained that she'd taken a pill made from Dragon Saliva Flamegrass and then jumped Xiao Yan, the elders' eyelids all twitched violently. Xiao Yan, meanwhile, turned his head to the side in shame, his face full of regret and embarrassment.

It was, frankly, humiliating.

"Hahaha! I knew it! With such talent and presence, Xiao Yan must be a phoenix among men—perfectly matched with our Dragon Sovereign. A match made in heaven!" said Zhu Li, the third elder, laughing heartily.

Xiao Yan rolled his eyes internally. Of course you'd say that now. If he remembered correctly, it was this exact old man who had just been condemning his character…

Still, with the misunderstanding cleared up, he chose to let it go. These were, after all, Zi Yan's clan members—it would be best not to sour things.

And so, what might've been a massive, explosive conflict was quietly resolved. Under Zi Yan's guidance, Xiao Yan stayed on Dragon Island for a day. The elders said it was for the two of them to "strengthen their bond," but in truth, they spent the whole time wandering around like tourists.

For some reason, as they strolled side by side, Xiao Yan suddenly thought of the term honeymoon…

During that day, he also learned more about the state of the Ancient Void Dragon Clan from Zi Yan. After the disappearance of the old Dragon Sovereign—Zi Yan's father—the clan had splintered into internal strife. Now, the Void Dragon Clan was fractured, split into four island territories.

The one they were currently on was East Dragon Island. Besides it, there were three other Dragon Islands, each ruled by its own self-proclaimed "Dragon King," all eyeing the vacant Dragon Sovereign throne with ambition.

Because of this, Zi Yan's identity was kept a strict secret. Hardly anyone on East Dragon Island knew she was the heir. The elders feared that if the other Dragon Kings found out, they'd stop at nothing to eliminate her before she could rise. For her safety, the three elders asked Xiao Yan to keep her at Starfall Pavilion for the time being.

"Tch… what a hassle," Xiao Yan muttered, recalling the elders' instructions. He had no idea what cultivation those Dragon Kings had reached, but if they could intimidate even the three elders, they were likely all Dou Saints. At his current strength, he wasn't ready to face that kind of storm.

It was clear—he needed to refine the remaining Heavenly Flames in his body as soon as possible.
