Chapter 4 - Running away - Req

I figured out another thing about there guards. They weren't alone

While they were busy talking it each other I quickly used a seal. That told me two things. First is that these guards weren't well versed in magic because they didn't notice me activating the seal. Second is that the seal I used was a really basic detection, with it I can tell how many sources of heat are in my vicinity, with me and the guards in front of me there are currently another 5 people outside around my house, one on each side, two at the back and one observing the surroundings on my roof it seems.

They didn't seem to move which means that they aren't versed with magic either. If I make a run for it might as well now.

!BOOM

Before the two guards in front of me realised what was happening I quickly used another seal I had in my hand, this one produces a lot of light and a loud noise, they were blinded for a few seconds which was more than enough time to turn around and start running out of the back door. Another problem standing before me were the two other guards there, they, unlike previous ones, had enough time to process what happened and simultaneously rushed to me.

I was prepared so I quickly went down and slid pater them, this was a good call as I saw they were unsheathing their swords at me. Suddenly I heard I swishing sound near my head.

The one on the roof had a bow with him, with how

Quickly he must have aimed and with how strong the impact was, it must have been a warning shot which means he missed on purpose. The two guards at the door also finally picked themselves up and ran to me.

This wasn't an ideal situation. "I have an archer and 4… no 6 melee combatants before me" I quickly corrected myself as I saw that the two who were guarding the sides also joined in. I used my flash seal already so that won't work twice on them. Shielding would take too much time. Running away wouldn't work with the archer. "Shit, what do I do now?" I thought as I realised I was practically cornered. "I have to give it to them that this was a pretty good strategy." But then I realised. From how they acted they had no idea who I was. Seals can be used by any idiot who gets his hand on them. If he has even the faintest bit of magic that is. If I can surprise them it will give me enough time to hopefully escape.

I'll let them talk before i finish making at least a basic shield around me. While they were busy regaining their formation the archer, still watching everything from the roof, said. "We are hereby arresting you for resisting a royal decree and an assault of 2 royal guards." Bullshit, I only blinded them for a few seconds. "If you do not resist arrest, your cooperation will be taken into account after arrival." It's painfully obvious they are lying, are they ignoring the circumstances and just carrying on with their speech form before or are they just delusional." I am not entirely sure but I'm almost done preparing. Just a moment.

"If you just place these on your hands we can return peacefully." He said as one of the guards below reached behind him and pulled out a pair of handcuffs. "So they aren't complete idiots." I thought to myself, these handcuffs look to be magic suppressing, they are made from a material that doesn't conduct magic. But looking at them they probably aren't made from Rebos wood, they probably opted out for something cheaper. And since I already casted a defensive spell it is unlikely they will have any real effect since they're of poor quality. Which means I can surprise them once they put them on me.

Okay I made my mind up. "Okay, I surrender." The angry faces suddenly turned less serious except for the archer in the back. Three guards approached me and the one in the middle put the handcuffs on, just to test my theory I quickly channeled some mana through my hands. "Good, I was correct, they don't suppress my mana because of the shield." When the handcuffs were put on me even the archer relaxed. From how cautious he is the entire confrontation I think I can safely declare him the leader of this group.

After a while we finally departed, the leader was in the middle with me while the remaining guards were surrounding us in a sort of a circle, weird strategy in my opinion. We continued for a minute until we entered the forest nearby. The path through the forest went in the general direction of the border with the kingdom of Sewol.

"Okay. 3. 2. 1…"

!SWISH

I quickly channeled mana through my hands and reached for the leader, the contact made a swish sound that could probably be heard all the way back to the village. I turned back and mashed the handcuffs against one of the guards head. The second one looked quite shocked but the first one was already falling to the ground half conscious. The handcuffs didn't break but it looked like a few more hits should do the job.

Even better opportunity came when the second guard finally came to senses and jumped at me. I moved to the side and held both my hands in the air. "Nice catch!" I thought once the guard landed on my arms and got almost strangled between the chains, that should keep him occupied for at least a minute. I quickly pulled another seal out of my pocket, before reading what it was I activated it and hoped for the best.

"Well that was a failure." Was my first reaction when I saw it. The seal was for creating stable source of light, basically like having a candle but it lasts longer. I quickly pulled another seal but the archer stopped me when he grabbed my hand, unfortunately for him I was stronger so the exchange ended with him getting hit with the handcuffs which also finally broke them. Now I only nee…

I stopped my thoughts because I felt a surge of pain in my shoulder. "A sword!" I realised that one of the guards behind me must have used the chance to try to incapacitate me, but he could probably only reach for my shoulder. Thankfully the seal was in my other hand but this will be bad if I don't treat it fast. I need to end this fight quickly.

The archer suddenly became my saviour because he started yelling "Retreat, he's too dangerous to tackle now!" The guard that hit me with the sword also listened and retreated but now looked a little bit scared. They also picked up the guard I knocked down and started slowly retreating, still in the direction they were heading towards originally.
