Chapter 131 - Dark voyage chapter 131

SAI SHINU

As we enter to the gate, the mirrored surface dissolved into a smooth white room, blindingly bright but serene. Four tall mirrors lined the walls, each reflecting one of us with unnerving precision. My reflection stared back at me, but it wasn't just a reflection—it was sharper, almost aware, like it was waiting.

Taro's mirror showed him poised, calculating, his eyes following us even though he wasn't moving. Yosuke's mirror flickered, the glint in his eyes sharper than reality. Namae's mirror bent the light around her, her elemental aura subtly shimmering through the glass. And then there was mine, the full moon mark faintly glowing on my chest, mirrored perfectly.

Suddenly, the mirrors shivered and cracked. In a cascade of white light, they shattered entirely—no sound, just the clean dissolution into sand. The grains swirled at our feet, moving with intention. I watched, mesmerized, as the sand rose, twisting and flowing like liquid, forming shapes.

The grains coalesced, taking human forms. One by one, the sand shaped into our own likenesses, but they moved independently, stepping forward as if testing us. Four exact replicas of Taro, Yosuke, Namae, and myself stood before us, their eyes glowing faintly, expressions unreadable.

Before I could even speak, the room's brightness dimmed, and the sand-forms mirrored our stances perfectly. Then, without warning, everything faded to black.

I felt the weight of the unknown pressing in, my heart racing, senses on edge. The last thing I remember was the echo of our footsteps in the white room, and the sense that we were no longer alone—but what came next was entirely out of my control.

TARO KOI

I stepped cautiously into the white room, the echoes of my boots against the floor feeling unnaturally loud. Four mirrors shimmered in each corner, their surfaces like liquid glass, beckoning me closer. My own reflection stared back at me, but it wasn't just my face—it was my past, my mistakes, my self-doubt laid bare.

I exhaled slowly. "Who am I?" I asked aloud.

The reflection tilted its head, a small smirk playing on its lips, almost mocking me. "You know who I am," it said silently in my mind. "The one you've been avoiding."

My chest tightened. It wasn't just the question—it was the realization that I had spent my life hiding behind the mantle of leadership, letting my fears dictate every choice. I clenched my fists.

"What do you want from me?" I demanded.

The reflection raised its hand, pointing toward my heart. "Acceptance. You've carried the weight of responsibility, but you've denied your own worth. You've been waiting for validation, but it's time to see it in yourself."

I stepped closer, reaching for the mirror. As I touched the glass, my reflection's confident posture mirrored mine, showing me a version of myself I rarely allowed to exist—strong, determined, unafraid. I spoke aloud, my voice firm: "I am Taro. I am more than my failures. I accept myself."

The reflection's eyes softened, almost proud. A strange warmth spread through me, as if the weight on my shoulders had lightened. I had faced my own truth, and for the first time, I felt whole.

YOSUKE SHIN

I approached the mirror with caution. Its surface was darker than the others, and my reflection seemed sharper, more aware than I was. The golden eyes stared straight into mine, almost piercing my soul.

"You think you're enough?" I asked, but my voice trembled.

The reflection didn't answer verbally. Instead, it pointed to my hands, to the scars and calluses, to the moments I had failed or wavered. A wave of guilt crashed over me, and I felt the familiar burn of shame.

"You've carried so much pain… but does it define you?" I whispered.

The reflection mirrored my words, showing me moments of courage I'd ignored—the friends I had saved, the times I had pushed forward despite fear, the strength I had shown even when I doubted myself. I realized I had never given myself credit.

"You survived," the reflection said in thought, almost gently. "You acted. You lived. That is your strength."

Tears pricked my eyes as I nodded slowly. "I am Yosuke. I am not perfect, but I am enough."

The reflection smiled, its golden eyes warm now. For the first time, I could look at myself and accept all that I had been through.
