Chapter 8 - Dark voyage chapter 8

SAI SHINU

"Where… am I?" I thought, blinking up at the white ceiling above me.

I realized I was lying in a bed, the sterile scent of antiseptic heavy in the air.

"Oh, so you're awake," a voice said gently.

I sat up quickly, pressing my back against the wall. My heart raced.

"Who are you, sir? And where am I?" I asked.

The man gave a calm smile. "I'm the doctor who's been taking care of you."

Confusion washed over me. The last thing I remembered—before that strange dream I had lived—was being at home.

The doctor's expression softened. "I know you must be confused. You may not even remember the accident that happened. Let me ask you a few questions."

"Ah… yes," I said nervously.

"Do you have an ID with you?"

"Yes, sir. Here." I pulled out my wallet and handed him my ID.

He studied it carefully. "So, you remember your name?"

"Yes. My name is Sai Shinu," I replied.

"Okay. And how old are you?" he asked.

"Seventeen," I said.

At that, he frowned slightly, confused. But he pressed on. "Do you know what date it is today?"

"Not exactly… but around the middle of February, 2024," I guessed.

The doctor shook his head slowly. His calm voice carried a weight that chilled me. "No. Actually… today is March 15th, 2027."

My blood turned to ice.

"What the hell…? How? I couldn't have slept for three years straight!" My thoughts spiraled, panic rising in my chest. My hands began to tremble uncontrollably.

"I'll check your medical results and be right back. Take your time. Try to relax," the doctor said, his voice steady.

"Th-thank you, sir," I forced out with a smile, trying to hide the terror shaking through me.

He gave me a reassuring nod. "No need to thank me. That's my job, after all."

As he reached the door, I quickly asked, "Wait—sir, may I know your name? Just in case I need to call you?"

He paused, then said simply: "Taro Koi."

The door closed behind him.

"Koi…? Why does that sound so familiar?" I thought, pressing my hand to my head.

I searched my memories, digging through fog. And then—

Yes. I remembered.

"Of course. How could I forget? My middle school girlfriend… Yuri Koi." I chuckled weakly. "We broke up when we went to different high schools. I wonder how her life turned out…"

But then my chest tightened again. "No… the bigger question is—how did I end up here? And why did three years pass while I was trapped in that dream?"

I tried to calm down, but something strange flickered at the corner of my vision.

A menu.

Like something from a game.
