When copying books, it was also equivalent to Fang Yi reviewing them, killing two birds with one stone: earning money and reading.

Unconsciously, time passed bit by bit.

Near one in the morning, Fang Yi finally couldn't hold on any longer. He stopped writing and rubbed his aching wrist.

"Brother Yi!"

"Brother Yi!"

Just then, he seemed to vaguely hear someone calling him.

The person seemed to be deliberately lowering their voice, so he couldn't tell who it was.

Who is it?

At this late hour!

Curious, Fang Yi pushed open the window and looked downstairs.

Under the dim streetlights, he saw a petite girl, wearing a short top and shorts, standing downstairs, her hands cupped around her mouth like a megaphone.

It was none other than Zhao Wanqiu!

Seeing it was her, Fang Yi frowned slightly. "Why are you still awake so late?"

"I can't sleep!"

Zhao Wanqiu kept her voice low, afraid of disturbing others.

The work at the Anchor Chain Factory was quite tiring, so most people were usually asleep by this hour. It wouldn't be good to disturb others.

Fang Yi asked, "Is something wrong?"

"Brother Yi, I'm a little scared about the surgery tomorrow!" Zhao Wanqiu said, then blinked her big eyes at Fang Yi. Her eyes were full of expectation, and a dependence she herself hadn't even noticed.

For the first eighteen years of her life, the most serious illness she had ever experienced was probably the high fever she had when she was ten.

But today, first, she learned she had lung cancer, and then that she would have surgery tomorrow. Fear, unease, and apprehension immediately flooded her heart.

Meeting Zhao Wanqiu's hopeful gaze, Fang Yi said softly, "Wait for me downstairs!"

With that, he closed the window.

Casually pulling out a T-shirt and putting it on, Fang Yi lightly walked out of the bedroom, then slowly opened the main door.

"Why are you sneaking around so late?"

Even though his movements were very light, he still unexpectedly woke Zhuang Shufen.

Seeing his mother was awake, Fang Yi simply opened the main door completely, while explaining, "Qiu-ge can't sleep tonight, I'm going to keep her company and talk to her."

"Go on!"

Hearing that Zhao Wanqiu was looking for him, Zhuang Shufen waved her hand, yawned, and turned back to her bedroom.

Tsk!

Fang Yi couldn't help but curl his lips.

He wondered if his mother would have a completely different attitude if it were someone else looking for him.

He went downstairs. Zhao Wanqiu asked curiously, "Brother Yi, why aren't you asleep either?"

"Writing a novel," Fang Yi replied.

"Oh!"

Zhao Wanqiu "oh"-ed and then said nothing more.

According to her personality, in the past, she would have definitely shown surprise, and might have even clamored to see what kind of novel it was.

For a moment, the atmosphere was silent.

Seeing this, Fang Yi suggested, "Shall I walk with you?"

Zhao Wanqiu shook her head, then she suddenly said, "Brother Yi, I want to hear you play the guitar."

Play the guitar?

"Now?"

Fang Yi raised his eyebrows, a little surprised.

At this late hour...

Seeing his hesitation, Zhao Wanqiu quickly said, "It doesn't seem very convenient right now, so never mind."

Hearing the disappointment in her voice, Fang Yi reached out and ruffled her head, sighing. "Wait for me here!"

With that, he turned and went upstairs.

Dong dong dong~

Footsteps echoed in the silent stairwell. Soon, Fang Yi came jogging back with his guitar.

"Let's go, to our old spot!"

Fang Yi was slightly out of breath, holding the guitar in one hand and Zhao Wanqiu in the other, walking towards the northern part of the complex.

The "old spot" was an old residential building.

This building was quite old and had been designated as a dangerous structure by the factory a long time ago. The residents had also moved out.

Children were often like that; the more adults told them not to go somewhere, the more they wanted to go.

Thus, this dangerous building became Fang Yi and his friends' playground when they were young.

In the darkness, the entire building exuded a decaying and eerie aura. Honestly, this building wouldn't even need a filter to shoot a horror movie.

Speaking of horror movies, Fang Yi suddenly froze.

Wait!

Late night, a man and a woman alone, an eerie dangerous building...

Isn't this a typical horror movie setup?

He thought about it, but Fang Yi didn't feel scared at all, and neither did Zhao Wanqiu.

Only because they were too familiar with this dangerous building. Almost every corner of it held childhood memories.

The dangerous building wasn't tall, only five stories.

The two held hands and quickly reached the top-floor balcony.

It had felt a bit stuffy downstairs, but once on the balcony, a cool evening breeze immediately blew towards them.

They went to the edge of the balcony, sat down by the railing, and Fang Yi turned his head to look at Zhao Wanqiu, asking with a smile, "Qiu-ge, what do you want to hear?"

"Anything!"

Zhao Wanqiu faced the evening breeze, the corners of her mouth slightly upturned.

"Okay, then I'll just play something improvised."

Fang Yi smiled and adjusted the tuning.

A moment later, he cleared his throat and slowly plucked the guitar strings.

Accompanied by the gentle and beautiful melody, Fang Yi sang softly.

"When you are old and your hair is whiteDrowsy and dimWhen you are old and cannot walkDozing by the fireplace, recalling youth

How many loved your moments of joyful youthAdmiring your beauty, whether false or trueBut only one loved your devout soul

...

When I am old, I truly hopeThis song is sung to you..."

...

After quietly listening to the song, Zhao Wanqiu turned her face and asked, "Brother Yi, what's this song called?"

"When You Are Old," Fang Yi replied.

"Oh!"

Zhao Wanqiu nodded, and asked again, "Brother Yi, will you accompany me to the hospital for the surgery tomorrow?"

"Yes!"

"Brother Yi, will we still hang out together when we go to university?"

"Of course!"

"Brother Yi..."

Zhao Wanqiu spoke then hesitated.

Seeing this, Fang Yi asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing!"

"Really nothing?"

"Really nothing!"

Zhao Wanqiu said, reaching out and placing her hand on Fang Yi's shoulder.

The two of them simply sat there quietly, enjoying the evening breeze and looking at the lights of the distant city center.

After an unknown amount of time, Zhao Wanqiu said, "Brother Yi, let's go back."
