Chapter 154 - Rebuilding the Hidden Sand Village [153]

The entire stadium erupted into cheers.

The name Uchiha Shisui rang out across the arena.

Like a lone hero, he stood tall against an overwhelming number of enemies—utterly unafraid. He kept maneuvering his 4WD with precision, continuously blocking the enemy racers from advancing.

Time ticked by.

Though Shisui himself bore few visible injuries, his breathing was heavy—clearly fatigued from the prolonged chakra expenditure. Even if all he was doing was controlling a 4WD, it was clear… he was reaching his limit.

His 4WD, Future, was in ruins.

Its chassis was battered, its rear wing nearly torn off, the shell cracked and crumbling—it looked like it might fall apart at any moment.

And yet…

It still stood its ground.

Blocking the path.

Not letting a single enemy 4WD get through.

Cries of encouragement echoed from the stands—again and again:

"Keep going!"

"You've got this, Shisui!"

Even citizens of Konoha who once viewed the Uchiha clan with suspicion were now shouting his name at the top of their lungs.

Hearing their support filled Shisui's tired heart with warmth.

He knew—he had been accepted.

Those shouts—loud and passionate—were proof that they now saw him, a member of the Uchiha, as one of their own.

So even if he stood alone until the end, even if Future was destroyed…

He had no intention of giving up.

The Uchiha are part of Konoha.

And he—Uchiha Shisui—is a Leaf shinobi.

Ever since the founding of the Hidden Leaf by the Uchiha and Senju clans, never had the Uchiha received such thunderous applause.

Not even the so-called "Friend of the God of Shinobi"—Uchiha Madara himself—had ever been hailed by so many voices.

So no—Shisui would not surrender.

He glanced down at his trembling 4WD—Future.

It was built to represent the Uchiha's hope. A vehicle crafted to symbolize their dream of unity with the Leaf. It carried designs of flames and trees representing the Will of Fire, guarded by a humble fan—the Uchiha crest—etched behind the leaves.

From the moment he became a shinobi, Shisui had dreamed of changing the fate of the Uchiha, to help his clan fully integrate into Konoha.

He took a deep breath. His eyes softened.

"I'm sorry, Future."

He knew Future couldn't last much longer.

Soon it would be smashed by enemy 4WDs, ground into dust before his eyes.

And even if he built a new one after the race, it wouldn't be the same.

Just like how the "Charge God" was shattered and its successor was renamed "Victory Charge"—it would no longer be Future.

But he still… wouldn't stop.

"Charge! Future! Shunshin no Jutsu!"

As soon as he shouted—

Future vanished from view.

"Be alert!"

The Iwa and Kumo nin all tensed.

Though they secretly admired Future, admiration was irrelevant.

An enemy was an enemy.

Just like any shinobi—they knew that only one side could survive.

Quickly, they surrounded their more vulnerable teammates, letting Earth-style 4WDs form a defensive perimeter.

They glanced up at Shisui, who still wore that gentle smile.

"As expected of Shunshin no Shisui…"

They'd clearly underestimated the man who once singlehandedly held down an entire Mist village battalion.

But this wasn't a battle between shinobi.

This was 4WD warfare.

And even if the crowd kept shouting support—it wouldn't change the outcome.

Future… was finished.

"Clang!"

Sure enough—

In a flash, Future appeared directly in front of an Iwa racer.

A kunai slammed hard into the enemy 4WD's core drive.

At that moment, the Iwa and Kumo racers retaliated together—

Unleashing an onslaught targeting both Future and the struck teammate.

"Earth Release: Spikes!"

"Lightning Release: Paralysis!"

A barrage of elemental jutsu surrounded Future on all sides.

Everyone could see it now—

Future… was going down.

But then—

As the dust settled—

"It survived!"

Tobi's voice rang out, filled with disbelief.

"Future survived the assault! Even after that overwhelming attack—it's still going!"

"Its armor is shattered. Its wings are gone. One of the front wheels is damaged, making it impossible to maintain balance—

"But the engine's roar still echoes in everyone's hearts! Future… dodged the killing blow!"

Still, despite Tobi's emotional commentary—

The crowd had fallen silent.

They knew.

Even if Future had barely survived that attack—

It wasn't going to last.

Shisui, too, fell quiet.

He looked at the nearly totaled Future, now barely holding together.

After a moment, he smiled bitterly.

"You've done your best, Future. I'm sorry… for letting you take such a beating. That's enough."

His tone sharpened.

"Future… you can rest now."

And then—

With its power core and engine fully exposed, Future surged forward one final time.

At this point, it had no more jutsu to unleash.

No more kunai to throw.

It just—

Charged straight ahead.

The audience watched in silence.

They knew there were only two choices left.

Either Shisui forfeited the match and brought Future back for "repairs"...

Or—he'd sacrifice it like a hero.

But if he sacrificed it now…

There would never be another Future again.

They looked at Shisui, bent over and gasping, clearly drained of chakra.

They glanced at the charging wreck of a machine, charging one last time toward the enemy.

And they said nothing.

Until—

"Go… go for it!"

A sudden cry pierced the silence of the stands.

"Go, Future!"

A young girl from the Land of Fire stood up, shouting at the top of her lungs.

"You're a hero! You're the pride of the Leaf! Go, Future!"

Her voice lit the fire.

One after another, spectators stood up.

Dozens. Then hundreds. Then thousands.

"Go, Future! You'll always be remembered!"

Their voices roared.

They cheered for the lone warrior 4WD—Future.

"GO!!"

But just as Future was about to crash into the Iwa 4WD and sacrifice itself—

"Bang!"

Suddenly, a new 4WD shot into view.

It was burning red.

Trailing eight flame-like tails.

It slammed straight into Future.

And then—

Before anyone could react—

Future's wrecked frame—reduced to its mangled chassis—was flung off the track.

It crashed into the desert.

And just like that…

Future was out.
