Chapter 409 - The Blood Trail

Yun Jin's voice was calm, yet it carried a strange edge of ruthlessness.

Yang Yun's expression shifted slightly. He couldn't hold back and said, "If you're accusing me without proof, who's to say you won't falsely accuse Sect Master Zhao next? Yun Jin, I only came here because Sect Master Zhao asked for my help. I never imagined I'd be wronged to this extent. This so-called proposal of yours is just a way to silence me. Everyone, I am innocent. So is Sect Master Zhao!"

"Whether Zhao Wuji is innocent or not, we'll follow the proper procedure," Yun Jin replied evenly. "I request that the Demon-Slaying Alliance conduct a full investigation."

When it came to investigating the demonic and unorthodox sects, the Demon-Slaying Alliance had their own methods—far more effective than the average cultivator.

"Approved," Ji Wusi responded immediately. He turned toward Yang Yun and casually tossed a circular ring.

The ring encircled Yang Yun and slowly tightened until he couldn't move at all.

"Alliance Master, what is the meaning of this?" Yang Yun called out.

Ji Wusi looked at him with a half-smile. "You claim to be a disciple from a hidden clan, which is why you could command so many experts. So tell me, which clan do you hail from?"

"My clan has been secluded for generations. No one knows of us," Yang Yun said.

"Is that so?" Ji Wusi asked. "Then where were you all hiding before?"

Yang Yun's expression shifted again. "What do you mean by that, Alliance Master?"

Ji Wusi spoke seriously, "I saw the memory crystal. You claimed to have a blood feud with the demon race and were badly wounded before ending up here. I've always admired warriors who fight the demon race. If you tell me where your clan is, I'll visit them myself to pay my respects. How about it?"

Yang Yun's face tensed. "That won't be necessary. My clan prefers peace and quiet."

"They're already being targeted by the demon race. How could they possibly live peacefully? You should tell me, so I can protect them," Ji Wusi pressed.

But Yang Yun had no answer. He pressed his lips together and said nothing more.

The others began to look at Yang Yun with suspicion. There were already many things about this youth that seemed off. Even if he wasn't a Demon Sovereign, he was clearly hiding something.

Ji Wusi didn't push further. He simply ordered, "Watch him closely."

The people nearby quickly responded and took him away.

After that, Ji Wusi summoned more people to conduct a large-scale sweep of the area. No matter how covert the actions had been, if something had been done, traces would remain. If there was no lingering aura to detect, they started with suspicious occurrences, pulling at every thread to slowly uncover the truth.

The Demon-Slaying Alliance proved themselves to be professionals. They tracked down reports of missing loose cultivators, then followed the clues back to several suspicious individuals.

At first, they weren't sure if those cultivators were involved. But their weak nerves betrayed them. Once they heard the Demon-Slaying Alliance was investigating disappearances, they started to panic on their own.

After capturing and interrogating them, they uncovered a destroyed cave used for experimentation. Most of the evidence inside had already been destroyed, but scattered clues remained.

Those clues pointed to one group.

The Blood Dao Sect.

It was the Blood Dao Sect.

Unbeknownst to everyone, their demonic cultivators had carried out a massacre right under their noses—and no one had realized.

With that lead, they continued digging upward, and soon the trail led to Zhao Wuji.

Someone confessed that Zhao Wuji was already a deacon of the Blood Dao Sect, and he served as their regional commander in this area.

Just yesterday…

Zhao Wuji had ordered them to wait near the Tianxing Sect. Once he sent the signal, they were to storm the sect and seize their treasures. But they waited the entire night and received nothing. Sensing something was wrong, they scattered and tried to flee.

They never expected the Demon-Slaying Alliance to arrive so quickly—and track them down all the same. These people had joined the unorthodox path for one reason: to strengthen their cultivation. Their pursuit of power was ultimately driven by the desire for longevity.

Expecting loyalty from them was laughable. With just a bit of torture, everything came spilling out. Combining all the evidence from different sources, the investigators finally pieced together a complete chain of proof.

Zhao Wuji had been recruited by the Blood Dao Sect many years ago. Ever since, he had secretly aided them, using fellow cultivators as test subjects in grotesque experiments. His claws had even reached his own disciples. Gu Jinghong was one of his victims.

And this time…

He had gone even further, attempting to bring the Blood Dao Sect directly into the Tianxing Sect to kill and loot. A person like him could no longer be considered human. He was more revolting than the demon race itself. At least demons and humans were born as natural enemies.

But people like Zhao Wuji—what were they after?

Helping another race to harm your own kind?

It was abhorrent beyond words.

What the Demon-Slaying Alliance found even more difficult to understand was this:

These captured cultivators had confessed to being part of the unorthodox path. Yet no matter what tools or methods they used, they couldn't detect any demonic energy on them.

Under further interrogation, one finally confessed. They had all been given a type of liquid periodically. This liquid was strange and powerful. Just one drop could completely suppress all signs of demonic energy. Nothing would leak out. If a demon took it, they would appear no different from a human.

No method—no spell, no artifact—could detect the truth.

Such a thing actually existed?

The matter was of grave importance. Upon discovering this, the investigators immediately took the captured members of the Blood Dao Sect, along with the gathered evidence, and rushed to the Tianxing Sect.

At the Tianxing Sect.

Ji Wusi and the others listened to the Demon-Slaying Alliance's findings.

Everyone's expressions shifted.

A mysterious liquid.

Just one drop, and all auras could be hidden.

Even these low-ranking lackeys had access to it, which meant the supply must be abundant.

So then—

What exactly was this thing?

If it had existed for a long time, the demon race could have been using it to their advantage for who knew how long. Could it be that the cultivation world was already crawling with hidden demons and unorthodox cultivators?

If that were true…

Then the consequences were too terrifying to imagine.

"Zhao Wuji," Ji Wusi looked at him coldly. "Do you have anything to say?"

Zhao Wuji's face was pale. He forced himself to speak. "I… I don't know what they're talking about."

Inside, he was filled with despair. He couldn't understand it at all.

Yang Yun was a Demon Sovereign. Yet he had lost, just like that. Even he had fallen into the hands of the Demon-Slaying Alliance.

Their plan had utterly failed.

And if these crimes were confirmed…

He wouldn't just be executed. He would face the cruelest punishment of all: complete annihilation, body and soul.

He didn't want to die. He truly didn't want to die!

"We have both witness and material evidence. Whether you admit it or not doesn't matter," Ji Wusi said coldly. "But if you're willing to confess everything, I can grant you a swift death. Otherwise, you'll face all 188 punishments of the Demon-Slaying Alliance. And trust me, you won't want to try even one."
