Deep beneath Seireitei, in the inner court's underground chamber.
A place forbidden to all but the highest authority, where even captains required sanction to enter.
What was once sacred now reeked of desecration.
The walls and stone steps were stained dark with congealed blood, frozen into grotesque patterns.
The once-mighty Central 46 lay scattered, lifeless in their seats, the eyes of the sages fixed open, reflecting nothing but terror.
The massacre's imprint lingered in the still air, a silence too heavy to break.
Footsteps echoed, measured and unhurried. Two figures emerged from the chamber's depths, their silhouettes cast long beneath the pale torches.
This was the Great Spirit Archive, the cloister that chronicled Soul Society's hidden history—its darkest secrets etched into stone, buried beneath centuries of silence.
"Has there been a deviation from the plan?"
Aizen's calm voice carried easily across the hollow chamber.
"The scene I anticipated never came to pass."
Beside him, Ichimaru Gin's fox-like smile curved faintly.
"And what is it Captain Aizen expected, I wonder?"
Aizen's gaze lifted to the entrance, where a lone figure stood in the shaft of light above, his body marked with blood but unbroken.
"I did not think anyone could best Moyu," Aizen mused. "A surprise indeed."
The intruder ignored him, walking forward with slow, deliberate steps.
"You never saw anyone as your equal, Aizen."
Hirako Shinji raised his hand, inverted grip, as a strange scent thickened in the air, seeping into every corner of the chamber.
"I paid dearly for this day," he said coldly.
"A century of suppression has reached its end."
His left hand lifted, summoning a mask shaped like a warrior of an older time.
"Prepare yourself—for retribution."
---
Sōkyoku Hill.
An hour remained until the execution. The condemned had yet to be brought forth.
Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni stood with cane in hand, eyes half closed, his presence immovable. From the beginning he had not concerned himself with the battles raging through Seireitei. His captains would resolve them. His duty was here. The execution would proceed.
The silence broke with the sound of footsteps. All eyes turned as Moyu ascended the slope, Abarai Renji bound in chains at his side. Behind them came the surviving guards of the Senzaikyū, weary but upright.
"Forgive the delay, Captain-Commander," Moyu said evenly, his tone absent of apology. "There was some trouble."
Yamamoto's heavy lids lifted. His ancient voice rumbled like stone.
"No apology is needed, Captain Moyu. That you have delivered the prisoner is more than sufficient. This task was Komamura's to bear…"
"Captain Komamura lies in Fourth Division now," Moyu replied. "I stabilized him. His life is no longer in danger."
Renji was led forward to the execution rack, chains coiling around him as his eyes lifted toward the sky. The towering Sōkyoku loomed above, its sealed form already oppressive. His head lowered again, resignation in the slope of his shoulders.
If nothing else, he wished he could have seen Ichigo escape this place in time.
He knew too well—once his sentence was carried out, Soul Society would set its hounds on Kurosaki and the others. No matter their strength, against the full might of the Gotei 13 there would be no escape.
He prayed silently. Be safe.
---
"Ahh, so I wasn't the last to arrive after all."
A light voice drifted in as pink feathers swayed gently in the air. Kyoraku Shunsui landed with a smile, hat tipped low.
"Seems a few of us captains were delayed."
Behind him came Ukitake Jūshirō, pale and coughing into his sleeve.
"Apologies, Head-Captain," he said between breaths. "We were… hindered on the way."
Yamamoto gave a single nod. "No matter. You are here."
The two stood quietly with the others. Several captains were still absent—Ichimaru Gin, Kuchiki Byakuya, Komamura Sajin, Tōsen Kaname, Zaraki Kenpachi. Half the Gotei's pillars yet to gather, and time itself pressing ever closer.
From distant districts of Seireitei, columns of Reiatsu flared into the sky, battles raging unchecked.
Moyu's gaze lingered on two signatures colliding fiercely—Byakuya's refined pressure clashing with Zaraki's wild torrent. A clash inevitable, yet not fatal. Zaraki was still sealed, Byakuya still rising. Neither would kill the other.
Elsewhere, more spiritual pressures tangled in combat. Moyu's thoughts turned briefly toward Kyōka Suigetsu. Aizen's hand was already shaping the battlefield.
Minute by minute, the hour bled away. No further captains appeared. The hill lay steeped in silence, each soul lost to thought as the moment drew near.
At last, Yamamoto's eyes opened. His voice, like an ancient bell, tolled across Sōkyoku Hill.
"Though some are absent, the hour decreed by Central 46 has come. The execution will proceed."
His staff struck the ground with thunderous weight.
"Begin the ritual."
Chains clattered loose from the towering halberd, crashing to the earth. A wave of golden-red Reiatsu surged skyward, heat rolling outward in suffocating waves. Dust spiraled, stone cracked beneath its weight.
Renji was lifted into the air, his body bound by luminous cubes of spirit energy, crucified against the vast emptiness above. Light poured from the Sōkyoku, a whistling shriek filling the sky.
Moyu exhaled slowly. The moment had come. The execution weapon said to hold the destructive might of a million Zanpakutō awoke, its aura swallowing the heavens.
Flames roared outward, converging, condensing, taking form.
With a thunderclap, a blazing phoenix burst forth, wings spanning the sky, its cry shaking Seireitei.
Captains and lieutenants shielded their eyes from the brilliance.
Among them, Unohana Retsu alone remained still, serene as the firebird spread its wings. Only when its form fully coalesced did her gaze lower, drifting toward Moyu.
"Captain Moyu…" she said softly.
He turned, and met her smile—gentle, timeless, as if spring itself had bloomed before him.
Her voice carried like a whisper borne on petals.
"I will always stand by your side."
