Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I'm tired. I'm tired of waking up in the morning; I'm tired of brewing that bitter instant coffee; I'm tired of wearing those pencil skirts and suits; I'm tired of getting into a taxi every morning, praying I won't get stuck in traffic; I'm tired of the sound of the elevator as it takes me to the 15th floor of my workplace; I'm tired of typing on my keyboard; I'm tired of the busy voices of my coworkers; I'm tired of going home after working overtime; I'm tired of it all. But thankfully, I'm finally getting the break I needed. I made a breakthrough at work, so as a way to appreciate my efforts, my boss gave me a 2-week break. It's not much, but I need it so much. I'm here on my way to a remote island, away from all the tall buildings and busy streets, into a quiet oasis with a beautiful beach to wake up to every morning.

"Thank you", I said as I waved goodbye to the stranger who decided to give me a helping hand with my luggage.

That's something that definitely won't happen in the city; everyone's too busy to even notice you passing by them.

I turned around, now facing what would be my home for the next two weeks, it was a beautiful cottage and it sat on the beach giving you a full view of the beauty.

"I can't wait to see the inside", I said to my self before dragging my luggage to the porch, I pulled out the key which the owner had sent through the mail— which I found weird but I'm not complaining— I opened the door to a beautiful but calming interior— whitewashed walls adorned with nautical decor and large windows that flood the cozy space with natural light. A soft sea breeze permeates the room, carrying the salty scent of the ocean. The living area is furnished with comfortable, rustic wooden furniture, while a small kitchenette is equipped with basic amenities. A modest bedroom that offers serene views of the sandy beach outside— I'm so happy I made the decision to come here.

"Time to unpack", I said as I moved across the living room into my room.

It took me a few minutes to finish unpacking.

"I need a shower", I thought to myself before heading to the bathroom to freshen up. After a much-needed shower, I got dressed and went out for a walk by the beach.

As I sat by the shore, staring at the water, a sense of relief and tranquility washed over me. "So beautiful," I whispered to myself.

"I know, right," I heard a voice next to me.

Yeah, it's so calming, almost—" I cut my sentence short as reality dawned on me. I turned my head in the direction of the voice and saw a man sitting beside me, an extremely handsome man, I must add, but that's not what matters.

Who is he? And how did I not notice him? When did he sit beside me? Why didn't I hear the crunching of the sand as he walked up to me? Was I that distracted?

"W-who are you? What are you doing here? How did you get here?" I asked, my voice tinged with surprise, a little fear, and caution.
