Chapter 5 - Transcendents Awakened

The roar of the fully transformed monster echoed in the court. Its size increases, tearing out from the pink sweater. The screams of the students escalated, as they were still locked inside with a monster.

They couldn't keep their fear in check as the monster before then emerged. Its gaze fixed, and suddenly it dashed towards them and caught a student.

In that instant, everyone screamed as they feared for their lives. They all gathered at the door to open it, but with all those people in a panic, it was impossible.

The monster tore its first victim, turning it into a monster just like itself. Soon there were two monsters, and the screams of the students became louder.

Without haste, the two monsters dashed and caught their own prey. All this happening before Phillip and Uvenna's eye. They couldn't believe what they were seeing.

In Uvenna's mind, she wondered how a monster appeared amongst their mist:

'What is this? I thought I made sure to check if they were all infected before allowing them entry. There shouldn't have been a mistake.'

As she doubted herself, a certain thought came into her. Her gaze fixed on the torn pink sweater that was on the ground.

'It was wearing that earlier?'

As she saw the sweater, a memory flashed back when the student council president called out her name. And then she was certain.

'It was the student council president?'

Knowing this fact, she quickly turned to Phillip. He was the one who let her inside, so he should have checked her before letting her in. As her gaze met him, she saw as he stared in shock.

The look on his face could tell that he was stunned to see that the person he let in was actually a bitten.

He had let in a monster..

Meanwhile. In Phillip thoughts:

'How? How is that possible. I asked if she was bitten before entering. How could she…:

Suddenly, a memory came to him in a flash. He remembered the hand she was covering. It indeed looked suspicious, and she lied about it even though she was actually bitten.

"Impossible."

Phillip couldn't believe it. He actually let in someone who was bitten by a monster. It was all his fault.

"It is my fault. It is my fault, It is my fa-"

"Snap out of it!"

Uvenna's voice echoed in his ear, as it brought him back to his senses. Before him… she was. Holding his shoulder, her eyes filled with nothing but pity. She knew how he felt, and tried to make it look like it wasn't his fault.

"Listen to me. It wasn't your fault!"

"No. it definitely is. I let in a monster!"

Phillip was already losing it. His mind couldn't keep up with the situation around him. The terror and chaos happening right before him was enough to fuel his current emotions.

"PHILLIP!!!"

Uvenna shouted, her eyes nearly filled with tears.

"I said it is not your fault. Take a look around you. It was bound to happen anyways. We are in an apocalypse. There's no point drowning in it. We either die or we move forward!"

"WHICH WILL IT BE!!!"

With her last words, Phillip looked around him. Students dying, and turning into monsters. It wasn't a dream, and sooner or later they might be one of the two. However, he was not ready to give up. Not at the current moment.

"You are right." he said, as he cleaned his eye.

"We have to stay strong and fight!"

Uvenna nodded and pulled her hands away from him. She had successfully brought him back to his scenes, and all that was left was to come out of the disaster before them.

"Let's go!"

Phillip turned and began moving between the students that were still struggling to open the door. They pulled and pushed each other making the main goal difficult to unfold. However, Phillip was unfazed. He pushed his way through the relentless crowd and got his hands on the handle of the door. Without hesitation he pulled and opened it.

Instantly, all the rushed outside like an overflowing tap. Those who managed to get out were safe or so they thought. While those who weren't lucky were caught by the already populated monsters.

There weren't just one or two monsters. Rather they had already increased in numbers, from the students that were bitten on the spot. Blood littered at every corner of the court leaving a very ominous and deadly feeling.

Uvenna who followed behind Phillip, stood and watched how the students who she had just treated were massacred… like it was sport for the monsters. In her life she had never imagined witnessing such terror.

Soon, all those who ran out from the court in fear for their lives, were all scattered in different directions. The court was just a few metres behind the main building of the school. And so, just as they were about to cross to the main field, they were met by a horde of different monsters.

In a five meter radius, every living or dead being before them were all monsters. There was nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. All they had to do was pray. Pray, that some being comes to their rescue.

Among the monsters stood a seven foot creature in the center. With height different from the others, it had a warped, rotting body stitched with bone and fungus. From its head curled massive, splintered antlers, dripping with black ichor. A pale, eyeless mask stared without feeling, and in one hand it held a string of small, fresh skulls, swaying gently like a silent threat. It wasn't just monstrous, it was something wrong. Something that should have never been born.

"N-No way!"

"We are doomed!"

"Hehe… give me a break!"

"We are fucked!"

"I don't want to die. I don't want to die!"

Cries of complete lost had already taken over. Those who witnessed the abnormalities in front of them were completely overwhelmed. Their eyes already gave up.

Death… was sure.

At this point, there was no way to run. They were corned both front and behind. All hope was lost. All minds were blank. No help was coming. Nothing to think of, except… death. However, a voice exclaimed.

"Don't give up!"

Everyone immediately turned to Uvenna, as she walked to the front.

"Is it not yet over. Humanity is not done. We are still alive. We are still living. As long as we are still alive, there is still something to live for."

Her eyes were full of determination, as she tried to encourage her fellow students. It was not just words alone. It was a cry for survival. A cry to remain strong.

Everyone included Phillip stared at her. He wasn't surprised. After all, she was a person of strong mind and good will. If there was a problem in class, and she was around, she would instantly find a way to fix it. That was her specialty. Healing things that were they were broken. Phillip smiled.

"Exactly!!"

He yelled, joining Uvenna as she stood beside her.

"We are still here which means we are very much alive."

Then Uvenna added.

"If we die today, we know that we go down fighting. And not just for ourselves but for HUMANITY!!!"

Suddenly, everyone's spirit began lifting. Her words had entered. Sanked deep. They might die at any point, but that didn't matter. Even though not all of them were actually lifted by her word, with doubt still in some of their minds. The ones that did, had to fight for their lives and for their dignity. They were not going to let it end like this.

Uvenna looked at everyone as their expressions shift from fear to fierce determination. And then she shouted:

"WHO'S WITH ME!!!"

Suddenly, there was a crack.

"Huh?"

A light began glowing.

"What is this?"

Uvenna stood before everyone as their gazes were all on her. Not the fierce determined they had on before. But rather a stunned one.

"W-Who's with me…?"

She mumbled looking confused. And without haste someone pointed at her.

"Y-Your chest."

"My Chest?"

"You are glowing… Uvenna!" Phillip exclaimed, as he stared at her. And suddenly…

"You too…" Uvenna spoke.

In that instant, strange light began to glow amongst some of the students who were standing. Each having a different color and feeling.

"W-What is this?"

The light on their chest began to grow. Brighter. Faster. Stronger. Pulsing with energy. Until…

It reached its peak.

"BOOM!!"

A burst of radiant power erupted. And then it began.

The awakening.

"Huh?"

"What?"

"This is…"

"What the…"

As the bright light began subsiding, everyone began looking at each other strangely. and before they knew it, there appearances had changed.

"U-Uvenna you…" Phillip stuttered.

Before him stood a beauty, almost mistaken for an angel. Uvenna's hair blazed like liquid fire, cascading in golden waves that shimmered with power. In her hand, she held a long sword, with the weight of something far more dangerous. An amor clung to her form like it was forged from volcanic night, dark, intricate, and laced with glowing veins of ember. She looked like something born of flames and fury, divine, untouchable, and terrifying perfect.

However, she wasn't alone. Phillip stood beside her, both arms encased in massive metallic gauntlets that crackled with a vibrant, glowing green. Each etched with intricate runes and embedded with gem-like cores that pulsed with unnatural energy. His face was hidden behind a sleek, high tech helmet. Only his eyes visible, burning with fierce focus. He looked like a mecha came alive. Awakened and ready for battle.

And they weren't at all the only ones with awakened powers. All of the students who had light on them previously, had already awakened some kind power and magnificent form.

"I-Is this what I think it is?" Phillip stuttered.

It was like the heavens had answered there cries. It wasn't just for nothing. There weren't just left to die. Rather they were blessed. With extraordinary abilities and powers. They had awakened the power to fight. To fight the creatures before them.

Phillip looked at Uvenna and she met his gaze. Their eyes locked, A slight smile played on her lips, before saying:

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
