ANA:

My Dearest Little Bird,

By the time you read this letter, I may no longer be in this world to tell you the truth myself. Perhaps you are grown up now, standing on your own, shaping a life I can only imagine. How I wish I could be there to witness it all—to see the person you've become, to know your friends, to hear about your first love, and to share in your joys and sorrows. I have always longed to be part of your life, to hold your hand through every moment. But my time here is fleeting, and I must leave you this piece of myself, this truth that you deserve to know.

This is the story of us—of you, of me, and of the family that came before.

Your grandfather, Theodore Winston, was a man of vision, a pioneer who dreamed of building not just a company but a legacy that would serve the world. With unwavering determination, he founded the Winston Group of Companies, aiming to create opportunities for others while securing a future for his family. I was only seventeen when he brought me into the fold, teaching me not just about business but about integrity, resilience, and the value of hard work.

It was during this time that I met your father, James. James was a man of extraordinary talent and charm, someone who could light up any room with his presence. My father admired him greatly, as did I. But where I saw brilliance in James, I also saw shadows—shadows cast by the company he kept.

There were three men who stood by your father's side: Leo Hudson, Narco Sanderson, and Alessandro Russo. They were his closest friends, yet they were also his greatest weakness. Despite their influence, I fell in love with James, and we married. Together, we poured our hearts into the Winston Group, turning my father's dream into a reality. With James's help, the company reached new heights, expanding into uncharted territories.

Yet, amidst this journey, there was another man whose presence loomed large—Lucas Romano. Lucas was not just a brilliant businessman; he was my childhood friend and my father's protégé. An orphan who had been taken under my father's wing, Lucas was everything my father had hoped for in a son-in-law: loyal, hardworking, and dedicated to the Winston Group. My father's wish was for me to marry Lucas, and for a time, I thought that might be my future too.

But love has its own plans. My heart belonged to James, and when I chose him over Lucas, I discovered a truth that shattered me—Lucas had loved me in silence, from the very beginning. Yet, despite his heartbreak, Lucas was not a man of greed or bitterness. He let me go with grace, putting my happiness above his own.

James and I built a life together, a family, and a legacy. For three years, we worked tirelessly to expand the Winston Group. James, with his vision and ambition, pushed the company to new heights. He even extended opportunities to his old friends—Leo, Narco, and Alessandro—entrusting them to manage the business back home while he pursued international growth.

But as you will come to learn, every legacy carries its secrets, every triumph its shadows. And so, my little bird, this is where our story begins to twist.

They were always jealous of Lucas. At first, I thought it was because he was the one my father wanted to take over the company. But slowly, I realized it wasn't just that—they were envious of his achievements and talents too.

One day, Leo and Narco conspired against Lucas and forced him to leave the company. They fought my father and succeeded. I was in college at the time and couldn't do much, and my father was too old to stop them.

Lucas eventually married Giulia, my best friend, and with his unwavering dedication, he built his own company in less than two years. By the time I returned after finishing my studies, Lucas already had a son—Benny. I was pregnant with you then.

James and I hardly saw each other because of his business affairs, and during that time, it was Giulia and Lucas who cared for me. Even when I gave birth to you, James didn't come to see us. We barely spoke to each other.

I felt incredibly lonely. Lucas helped me get back on my feet by encouraging me to engage with work. I opened a jewelry shop, and with Lucas's help, it began to thrive. But then Alessandro introduced me to his friends, San Dios and Diana Moretti, who wanted to invest in my business.

I wanted to talk to James—to tell him what was going on in my life—but I rarely saw him. That's when I realized my mistake.

Your father... he was always someone who prioritized business and money over me. When I saw Lucas with Giulia, I couldn't help but feel jealous. Embarrassed. Pitying myself. It dawned on me that Lucas was the kind of man I truly wanted—the one who balanced family, his wife, and his work so effortlessly.

I longed for someone who would take me out on dates, bring me flowers, compliment me, and care for you. But I got none of that. And at the same time, I felt ashamed of myself for thinking that way—especially knowing I was coveting what belonged to my best friend.

But Giulia... she understood me. She helped me see the truth about myself and guided me back to solid ground.

I began spending more time with Lucas and Giulia than in my own house. Under Lucas's guidance, my business thrived, gaining prominence and respect. But within a year, the illusion shattered—I discovered that Diana Moretti wasn't the ordinary investor she claimed to be. She was a criminal hiding in plain sight.

I caught her smuggling diamonds, not just from my shop but from the Winston Group itself. I turned to Lucas, and together we exposed her, leading to her arrest. But in doing so, we uncovered something even more horrifying: her partner, San Dios, was involved in human trafficking and child abduction.

I was devastated. My world, already fragile, began to crumble further. That night, I wrote a desperate letter to your father, revealing everything—Leo, Narco, Alessandro, their crimes, and the danger surrounding us. But, as always, there was no reply.

After my father's death, I was left to fend for myself in a house that no longer felt like home. Leo, Narco, and Alessandro had taken over everything, and I became a guest in what was once mine.

A year later, I saw Alessandro visiting Diana in prison. I dug deeper and uncovered their connections to the underworld. When San and Diana were released on bail only months later, I knew someone powerful was protecting them—someone who wanted us silenced.

Giulia, Lucas, and I decided to fight back, to uncover the truth and bring them all to justice. But before we could act, Lucas's world fell apart. He was framed, accused of smuggling diamonds hidden in a secret compartment in his office. They labeled him a traitor and had him arrested.

But they couldn't get it. Not without a Winston. My father made sure only we can access the chest. They didn't understand that our blood was the key.

That time, I was helpless. You were five years old, Benny was eight, and little Amy was just four. Despite our efforts, the truth seemed unreachable, buried beneath a web of lies and corruption.

Then, I heard the news—your father had finally returned. The Winston Group had transformed into a global empire, rebranded as The Alpha Group. For a fleeting moment, I felt hope. Perhaps this was our chance. I wanted to tell him everything, to plead for his help.

But before I could, I overheard Narco and Leo speaking in hushed tones. They spoke of my father's will, of The Winston family's hidden chest. That's when I learned the truth—my father, upon discovering the deceit and corruption of those three predators, had hidden the white gold and the rare African diamonds in our family chest. They wanted it. They wanted everything.

I froze as they revealed the details of the will: all Winston property belonged to me and, eventually, to you. But there was a condition—a safeguard. No one could claim it until you turned 25.

That's when I realized the stakes—they weren't just after the company. They wanted us gone.

That night, amidst the storm's fury, I heard their chilling plan. They wanted to kill me. To kill you. To erase us completely.

Desperate, I ran to Giulia. I told her everything, and we decided to go to the mayor, one of my father's old allies. But it was too late.

They came—Leo, Hudson, Alessandro. They showed no mercy. They abused us, and then they killed Giulia right in front of me. It was brutal, inhuman.

By some miracle, I survived. Bleeding and broken, I pulled you, Benny, and Amy from the burning house. We ran through the night, the storm hiding our footsteps as we sought refuge with the mayor.

For the first time in years, your father answered my call. He said he was coming. Coming to save you, to uncover the truths that had remained hidden for far too long. For a moment, I dared to hope.

But as I sit here now, the blood seeping from my wounds, I know my time is running out. I can only hope.

I hope Lucas will one day forgive me for everything.

I hope your father will uncover the betrayal that destroyed us.

And, my sweet little bird, I hope you will forgive me—for my mistakes, for my failures, for not being able to protect you as I should have.

Don't trust anyone.

There is a small black box. Inside it lies the key to the Winston family heirloom and chest. I've entrusted Benny with it to keep it safe until the time is right—until you're old enough, strong enough, to claim what's yours.

Remember, our blood is the key.

Live well, my daughter. When the truth finds you, I hope it gives you the strength to rise above it all, to reclaim what was taken from us, and to understand that they are very clever. Especially the fourth one. Your…
