Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

[Sure]

In an instant, the virtual map that only Riku could see became even clearer, revealing the territories of every major faction.

The highest-grade diamond chests, unsurprisingly, were found in the most perilous places: the lair of the Dragonia (ranked 4th among the Ixseed), the mutated Phantasma stronghold ruled by the Demon King (ranked 2nd), and the capital of the Gigant (ranked 5th). As for platinum chests, they appeared in the capitals or nests of other powerful races. Gold, silver, and bronze chests, at least, weren't nearly as dangerous.

But what really caught Riku's attention was the Flügel's headquarters, Avant Heim (ranked 6th)—a race infamous as weapons of war, said to have even slain the Old Deus. There, at the heart of their stronghold, sat a rainbow-tier chest—clearly above even diamond grade. But to obtain it was next to impossible: hundreds of god-slaying Flügel guarded the place, and the headquarters itself was the phantasm Avant Heim.

And yet, above all these, there was an even greater existence: Artosh, the Old Deus, the God of War—the first-ranked, the mightiest being, king of kings, god among gods, who had slain countless enemies across the ages. Avant Heim served as his apostle, and the god-slaying Flügel were his creation. In short, the headquarters of Avant Heim was the most dangerous place on Disboard, bar none.

'This level of difficulty is just ridiculous.' Riku narrowed his eyes, a sly smile on his face.

Chest locations were random only for the lower and middle tiers; high-tier chests clearly appeared where their danger matched their value. Chests respawned over time: diamond every three years, platinum every year, the rainbow chest never, gold every six months, silver every three months, and bronze every month.

'I get the basics. System, is there a beginner's chest?'

[No]

'I figured as much.' Riku nodded, not disappointed. He glanced at the bronze chest that had just appeared in his room and grinned. 'This is insane luck—spawning right here.'

He reached out and placed his hand on the chest.

In an instant, it popped open, revealing a glowing orb.

[Ding! Congratulations, master! You've opened a Bronze Chest and obtained Teigu 'Dimensional Formation: Shambhala'.]

Teigu (Imperial Arms) Dimensional Formation: Shambhala (from Akame ga Kill!) allows the user to set spatial coordinates and teleport. Its ultimate ability can banish a target into another dimension, consuming both mental and physical stamina.

'Not a bad start,' Riku thought, turning the purple, compass-like item in his hand.

He was very familiar with Akame ga Kill! and the power of Shambhala. In a world overflowing with powerful enemies, teleportation was more valuable than brute strength.

With Dimensional Formation, collecting chests and moving bases would be a breeze.

[Ding! Teigu 'Shambhala' detected. Recycle or store it?]

'What do you mean by recycling? And what's storage?'

[Recycling means converting valuable items into exchange points, which can be used to buy chests. Storage gives you five cubic meters of space, expandable as you open more chests.]

A virtual screen appeared before his eyes:

[Exchange System]

[Ordinary Chest: 1000 points]

[Exquisite Chest: 5000 points]

[Superior Chest: 20000 points]

[Supreme Chest: 100000 points]

[Divine Chest: 500000 points]

Lower-tier chests could grant all sorts of items and abilities, with the odds and limits set by chest grade. Supreme and Divine chests, on the other hand, guaranteed top-tier rewards, including rare bloodlines and overpowered abilities. The prices were terrifying, but since a bronze chest had just given him a Teigu, it seemed worth it… probably.
