Chapter 5 - Episode 5

Second day of updating everyday! Can you give a review of this fic I'm genuinely interested in how people take this and stuff that I may have overlooked and stuff.

I need reviews and also give me some Powerstones! Thanks.

This chapter won't focus much on Isagi but other side characters that will play a key role in the first selection.

Btw look at the team line-up(comments) So you don't get confused with different players. I'll post their play-styles soon

------------------------

"Hey guys! I was wondering since we have a match in like two days, we should put in a mini-game to see where everyone should play!" I said towards the bunch of players.

"Yeah, I'm down!" Genda said with a grin on his face.

"I'm only saying this because we are all strikers and if everyone is in front then you know.." I continued.

There was a huge silence in the room, and I wasn't sure what else to say. I'm pretty sure they would agree but I feared some people might not comply.

"I mean there is no reason not to, let's go, guys!" Haiji said. With that, everyone else followed him.

We reached the field and cleared out the cones and other stuff that were used for training. However, since it was a 6v6/5 we would need a smaller pitch so we used cones to isolate a part of the pitch and add the goals.

"There, finally done.. Now what we are going to do is place you guys in ranks from bottom to top so the number one ranked goes with the last and the second ranked goes with the second to last ranked and so on," I explained.

One reason I used this strategy was to make the teams and also so that I could test out the ability of each player without Hiori or Kurona taking the spotlight. I made it so that they would be on the same team meaning that their two lights cancel each other. They should be at the same level as of now, two players with the same play-style have to fight for each other's spot.

That's usually why teams with two people don't work effectively. One example of this was Isagi and Kaiser. As soon as Isagi got better than Kaiser, he wasn't able to score as many goals unless he evolved as well or did something that Isagi couldn't do.

Enough of that, let the games begin…

We started with the ball. Ayumu passed it to Hiori and he started doing his magic. Easily dribbled past two players before being met by Kurona and as expected they were evenly matched.

It was such a disappointment that I would have to rely on luck again in order to score another goal. I'm guessing that Hiori will try to shoot and it will be deflected.

I just need to wait for it.

"Damn your defense is so solid it's like you're reading my every move!" Hiori groaned while doing a feint shot. Luckily, Kurona fell for it and he was open to shoot and he didn't waste his chance and took the shot.

Unlucky for him another player was there to stop him, not exactly as planned but the result still remains the same.

The deflected ball came neatly to my legs. Since there was no one acting as the goalkeeper I volleyed the ball and it glanced across the side of the net.

1-0

"I want to add a new rule, the more goals you score the higher your position against team X will be!" I grinned my eyes shimmering with bits of lightning(Imagine Kuruko basket when they enter the zone but MC is just showing ego or smt idk at this point just wanted it to be cool)

A shout of protest was met at first but it wasn't an unreasonable request so everyone quickly accepted.

The other team started with the ball and were swiftly pressing with Kurona at the core of the attack. It was crazy how even though this was their first time playing their coordination was top tier.

Kurona was roughly 28 meters from the goal, andit wasn't looking good. If we had a goalkeeper I wouldn't bat an eye but his accuracy with passes was threateningly accurate so I'm sure that also applies to his shooting.

He is a striker after all.

Just as I thought he took the shot and it glazed past all of us into the back of the net.

1-1

"Not bad but I could do better," I muttered to myself. I was getting into the zone with this match. It was getting really exciting. I couldn't wait two more days for a match. I need it now. This feeling when you are facing a strong opponent was something I was hoping to spark in Blue Lock and I got exactly that facing Kurona.

Kick-off started again and Hiori was quick to start this time. There was already a level of superiority in this team of who was stronger than the other.

I think Hiori and Kurona are at the top because of Hiori's incredible dribbling and tactical thinking in the first half and of course Kurona's long shot goal. I don't think I was seen as a big threat yet because they think I scored a "lucky goal".

I mean they wouldn't be wrong but I need to affirm my place here as the striker of strikers. The number one.

Hiori passed the ball to Genda after dribbling past three players but before Genda could take his second touch he was pressed by Kurona and was quick to lose the ball.

"Sorry, but your route is too obvious!" Kurona said while grinning showing his shark teeth. Hiori didn't reply but instead just grunted and went to get the ball but Kurona was quick to pass the ball towards Ren.

"It's finally my time to shine!" Ren said with a grin.

"Hello Team Z and I'm Ren Katori! Pleasure to see you!" he continued while grinning.

I went to press him but he did a step over and did a feint to the left. I could keep track of his movements, they weren't anything special. However, that lapse in tracking his movements was what he used to sprint ahead.

His speed…

It was out of this world, it was incredible. His lanes were so obvious and could be counted easily the only thing was trying to counter his explosive speed and dribbling.

Ronaldo chop, an Elastico into a nutmeg to get past two players. How did he not get past the second selection? His skill in dribbling and speed was something different.

He did a feint and cleared past the last man and smashed the goal into the goal with obvious ease.

1-2

"What an insane solo goal!" I stammered in shock. While it wasn't something out of this world it was something special for a character that was canon fodder and didn't even make an appearance in Blue Lock.

"I can't lose until I surpass Kaito Zenji!" he proclaimed with a big smile on his face.

What an interesting player, it seemed he was influenced by Kaito defeating him or something I will need to ask him. On that note, I wonder how strong Kaito has gotten. Is he still the perfect jack of trades?

"Kaito huh?" I murmured.

We started again with the ball and I could tell that the feel of the game had changed after Ren's little solo goal.

It seemed that the rankings had been changed again with Ren's little solo goal. (Not the actual number rankings but how everyone saw each other)

Hiori was still in the top 3 but that wasn't enough for him. His ego was coming out and possibly even an evolution in his ability.

He started with the ball and instantly the aura that permeated off him was going crazy. I don't know how he was doing it but I felt some sort of danger and I was on the same team as him. The usual calm look was now replaced with a level of focus I hadn't seen in a long time.

"I'm really getting the side character treatment," I said to myself.

"I know those three are insane but hey just be happy you got your goal!" Haiji said.

I grinned, but he seemed to have misunderstood me. I was only unhappy with myself because I was letting all the side characters have too much spotlight but somehow I still didn't feel like disrupting Hiori's evolution.

Patience is a key part of success after all.

Hiori got the ball and tilted his head up his glistening turquoise hair covering part of his eyes.

"It's weird for me to feel this fired up! I love this feeling," he said, still with the same serious look on his face.

A player clearly noticing that he was in the zone tried to press him, his attempt at trying to shove him off the ball using shoulder-to-shoulder was met with Hiori manoeuvring himself backwards so he would lose his centre of gravity and ultimately fall.

Of course without experience or learning the proper defensive techniques how could a striker truly try to defend against another top-notch striker? It simply couldn't happen.

Hiori then went on to do a lift and tap to get past another two players before being met with Kurona.

"You won't be enough," Hiori muttered while going for a shot, Kurona thought it would be a feint but it turned out to be an actual shot. But that brief hesitation was all it took for the ball to curve past the remaining opposing team into the back of the net.

2-2

"Fucking amazing, so there are others like him!" Ren muttered. The ball had curved so perfectly that he hadn't been able to stop it from entering.

While everyone was in shock I was analysing what had just happened during the entire game.

The level of these players wasn't any less incredible than the Team Z that the OG Isagi went to. Hiori and Kurona were a given but even someone like Ren was able to steal the spotlight for a minute.

While Hiori is a genius playmaker he didn't have any players to link up with so he wasn't used to the best of his ability but I think I'm liking this more selfish version. But the one that I'm really surprised about is Kurona.

An agile link-up player who thrives in passing the ball in space was able to score a long-shot goal. It seems that when given the right training space they too can evolve and show who they truly are.

I would let them evolve and then crush them, their level right now is nowhere close to mine anyway. After the Team X match, I'll show them who's boss. (Dangerous Danny over here).

Let's not forget about some dark horses in this game like Haiji who was able to block off a few attacks from Hiori and other players. If I had to compare him to one player it would be Oliver Aiku.

And Genda as well, it's like he is able to smell a goal and positions himself perfectly to block off a goal. If only he could replicate that as a striker not a defending player but his skills are lacking in such a toxic environment. He wasn't able to adapt therefore meaning his amazing ability would have to be used as a goalkeeper or defender.

The rest of the match was boring, Ren had a few dribbles but I was relatively able to shut him off by using metavision.

Kurona scored one more long-shot goal, It was really hard to predict him because he could quickly link up with Ren or take a long-shot being on the opposite side of him was admittedly kind of scary.

Hiori was locked up for the rest of the match, unable to enter the flow state he was in before. But when one of his shots was deflected, I managed to clean up the mess and scored. The final score was 3-3.

I had managed to score the most goals alongside Kurona but hadn't attracted attention since they were "lucky goals".

But due to scoring the most goals I would be playing striker alongside Kurona. I was really thinking three steps ahead when I said who scored the most goals would play a higher role.

After the match, we all entered the cafeteria for some food. Happily chatting amongst ourselves.

"Man it's really unfair all you got were lucky goals and now you are playing as a striker!" Genda complained. I guess he was just salty because he was put in as a goalkeeper. And also because in the normal eyes, it looked like a normal goal.

Genda, while spectacular on the defence, constantly lost the ball and wasn't a very effective attacker.

"You think so?" I jokingly said.

"You're not half bad, you managed to slow me down, an ex-athlete!" Ren exclaimed.

Now it made sense why his speed was so fucking fast. This dude was incredible.

"WAIT WHAAA!!" Haiji yelped in surprise.

"I'm amazing! I know, praise me more!" Ren said with a smug look on his face.

"I still scored double the number of goals than you," I said with a smile of my own. It wasn't time to be slursagi yet but a little joke didn't hurt, right?

Everyone else burst out in laughter :(If only everyone glazed me like that)

"But he had the best goal by far!" Haiji said like he was pointing out the obvious.

"Don't say that it will get to his head!" I replied.

"You're only saying that because you had the.. Worst goal by far!" Genda teased.

"And you're only saying that because you scored no goals," I retorted quickly.

We laughed amongst each other, man I love times like this but you know, the grind doesn't stop because of friendship.

Either way, this match really enlightened me on multiple individuals, I would say the top three are… Me, Kurona and Ren and Hiori closely following behind.

I only placed Hiori in last place because he had good dribbles but was mainly stopped by Kurona except for the time he went into the flow. Ren is definitely in the top 3 no debate he is incredible.

I just feel like Hiori seems like he is developing while Kurona and Ren are perfect where they are…
