“Does it not please you?”
He kissed the back of her hand again, the ring catching the faint light and reflecting it in brilliant sparkles. Although it was exquisite beyond measure, she knew all too well that his true gift was something else entirely.
“How could you murder the leader of the rebellion?” she whispered, cautious even when they were alone. “Did he threaten your life after he discovered that you had not eliminated me? Is that the reason you went after him?”
He merely chuckled softly and replied, “Threaten me? Hardly. Why would he want me dead when I’m not the one who killed Bran?”
“Then what possessed you to go after him?”
While he did not deny killing the rebellion’s leader, his next words were as good as a confession.
“I was worried,” he said simply. “Worried that you might be losing sleep again, tormented by nightmares because of him.”
