Chapter 12: Is Someone Here?!

Yu Sheng said goodbye to Irene, but this time, he didn't hang up immediately after saying it.

It wasn't because the thing opposite him had become a vegetarian, but because this terrifying giant beast seemed to be in a daze for some reason.

It stood in the night wind, its dozens of chaotically overlapping eyes on the ball of flesh staring intently at the prey in front of it with a strange "gaze." Although it sounded a bit strange, Yu Sheng felt that he could really see "confusion" in these eyes—the kind of confusion you get when your mouth and stomach have been trying to balance the books for half an hour and still can't get it right.

Irene was still anxiously calling out something in his mind, but all of Yu Sheng's attention was focused on the terrifying monster in front of him. Irene's voice was as distant to him as if it were through a thick curtain—he tensed his muscles, feeling his heart pounding like a drum. Every muscle twitch and vein throb on the monster was clearly reflected in his eyes.

Although he had made some preparations when he "revived" from the ruined temple, Yu Sheng still felt a great sense of tension when he really encountered this heavy pressure of death again.

The only difference from last time was that the fear mixed in with this tension had greatly diminished, replaced by a kind of… excitement that he himself found very strange.

Then, he suddenly felt something.

It was muscles contracting, it was turbid and thick blood gathering, hunger was surging in his heart, and a command to eat came from his muddled mind—in this very brief moment, a sense of alarm surged in his heart, and he accurately outlined the contour of that alarm.

The monster was about to make a move, from the left, but it was just a feint. The real killing move was a snake tail with barbs and sharp edges that would swing from behind.

The monster pounced, a bloody mouth suddenly split open from one of its limbs and bit towards Yu Sheng's left side—but before it leaped, Yu Sheng had already reacted. Without much thought, he directly followed the prompt in his heart and sharply turned his body, then quickly lunged forward, so fast that even he couldn't believe it.

He noticed that his previously strained back had also fully recovered at some point. It seemed that ever since his "revival," the condition of this body had been incredibly good.

The giant beast missed its pounce, and the snake tail that had ambushed from a tricky angle only barely brushed past the "prey's" back. Yu Sheng felt the wind pressure from behind him, and the feeling of passing through the edge of death made his hair stand on end. But compared to this thrilling feeling, there was an even greater disbelief in his heart:

He actually dodged it?! What just happened?

But he didn't have time to think about it, because another round of crisis came from behind him. This time, there was not enough time to dodge. He only had time to roll over clumsily after landing, and then he saw a sharp claw crashing down on him.

In a hurry, he could only instinctively raise his hand, using his weak human arm to block the claw that was almost like a falling meteorite.

With a loud bang, the air turbulence scattered the grass clippings and dust within a radius of several meters. Intense pain spread throughout his body. Yu Sheng felt as if a dozen bones in his body had been broken at the same time. He let out a muffled groan and took two steps back, unable to catch his breath—

But he had blocked it. He had really blocked that blow just now.

Yu Sheng looked at his hands in astonishment. He saw that his left hand was bent at an abnormal angle, and it was obvious that the bone had really been broken. However, the pain was fading at an astonishing speed, and the twisted bone seemed to be slowly recovering.

He still clearly remembered the first time the monster attacked him, remembered the monster's true power. Every inch of muscle on that thing could easily crush a human body, and Yu Sheng was 100% sure that when the monster pounced with all its might, he couldn't have blocked it—no matter how many bones were broken.

But the monster obviously wouldn't give him much time to think. After landing, it only took a second or two to adjust. This hungry giant beast let out a chaotic and angry roar and pounced on the annoying "prey" in front of it again.

A piercing wind came at him. The pouncing monster was like a small mountain falling from the sky. Yu Sheng reacted in advance again. He rolled to the side without any regard for his image, then got up and jumped away, dodging a mountain-splitting tail whip. However, in the next second, Yu Sheng, who had not yet regained his footing, was swept to the ground by the retracting tail. Then, the giant beast actually split open from the middle of its body, and a disgusting, writhing "long tongue" like a tentacle shot out in the night, tightly wrapping around the unbalanced Yu Sheng and dragging him back violently.

Yu Sheng braced his hands with all his might to prevent himself from being snapped in half by the "long tongue," at least not so quickly. He watched helplessly as he was dragged in front of the monster. The monster's body split open a large hole in the middle, and countless sharp teeth rose and fell in the large hole, like a giant mouth that was extremely hungry.

Just as he was about to be dragged into the giant mouth, Yu Sheng suddenly kicked his feet. The rock under his feet cracked with a bang, and the huge recoil force even made the monster stumble.

Yu Sheng didn't have time to think about why he had so much strength. Taking advantage of this momentary respite, he used almost all his strength, roared, and broke the long tongue that was wrapped around him. Then he picked up a sharp piece of rubble from the ground and pounced on a turbid eyeball on the side of the monster that was trembling wildly.

The long tongue broke, and the monster also let out a chilling roar. Blood sprayed from the middle of its body. It stumbled, trying to regain its balance. Dozens of eyes stared at the prey in front of it with madness and hunger—

So fragrant, so fragrant…

The smell of blood drilled into its nostrils, stimulating the nerves of the hungry, arousing some kind of… instinct that had been dormant for a long time.

It's really so fragrant.

Yu Sheng felt his heart pounding wildly, felt something hot and almost boiling surging in his blood. A kind of ecstasy was gradually rising in his heart. He tried hard to distinguish what this ecstasy was, and finally, he understood.

It was the joy of about to eat, the reward for satisfying hunger.

That giant beast, that pile of flesh and blood, that chaotic and fallen spirit, that…

Good meat.

The sharp rubble in his hand was gradually crushed into powder. He breathed heavily, feeling everything around him slow down.

He pounced on the monster, the monster pounced on him, food embracing food—in a daze, he actually had a feeling that he had never eaten in the past twenty years, or at least had not eaten "real food." He embraced the ferocious limbs on the side of the monster, and the monster "embraced" him with even more amazing strength, until it broke one bone after another in his body.

But Yu Sheng seemed to feel nothing. He had already bitten into the monster's flesh and blood. Unlike last time, which was a final desperate counterattack before death, he now had a new mentality—

He would not die. He would come back again. This monster could kill him once, twice, or countless times, but he would come back.

And each time, he would understand how to deal with this monster better than the last time.

This might take a long time.

But he would enjoy this good piece of meat little by little.

The dozen or so eyes on the side of the monster trembled wildly. A few of them seemed to have felt something and finally slowly focused on Yu Sheng.

A giant mouth full of sharp teeth had already bitten into Yu Sheng from the side, but a layer of fear seemed to gradually appear in those eyes.

Yu Sheng felt his body being gradually torn apart by the monster. He knew that he had lost this time, as expected—he would die, eaten by this monster.

At least this time, he still couldn't win.

In any case, the time he lasted this time was far beyond expectations—he had originally thought that he would die on the spot, but he didn't expect to have a back-and-forth with this monster.

"Irene…" Before his consciousness sank into darkness, Yu Sheng tried to call out in his mind.

Irene's voice sounded almost immediately, "Yu Sheng! Yu Sheng, are you okay?! I've been calling you, but you didn't answer…"

"I'm fine, I just told you too early. I'm going to hang up now…"

Then he ignored Irene's shouting and just quietly waited for death to come.

However, just before the heavy darkness descended, he suddenly heard a voice nearby—a clear, real voice that existed in this valley.

"Don't be afraid! I'm here to save you!"

Yu Sheng's consciousness was already very unclear, but at this moment, he had a moment of clarity. A thunderous impact exploded in his mind—

Someone?!

There's someone in this place?!

He struggled to open his eyelids and looked in the direction of the sound. He saw a figure rushing over from a distance. He vaguely saw that it seemed to be a girl in ragged clothes, but in the next second, he saw other silhouettes flying in the night behind the girl.

What was that?

A tail?

A fox?

A person?

No, it was a subsonic headbutt.

Yu Sheng watched in despair as the figure who had shouted that she was coming to save him accelerated in the air like an extended-range cannonball, head down, and rushed straight over. And the monster that was biting him just happened to turn its body to the side (most likely on purpose), so he became the target of the figure's straight charge.

"Holy sh—"

He only had time to squeeze out two syllables from between his teeth.

The rushing girl didn't even see the situation in front of her.

The subsonic headbutt smashed into Yu Sheng's chest, and then he had no chest.

Nothing below the neck.

As if it had evaporated.

"Miss, you… you hit the wrong person…"

Then, Yu Sheng was saved to death.
