Chapter 126 - Chapter 126 – A Father and Son's Conversation: Thoughts on the Uchiha Clan

"Are you sure the Tailed Beast inside you is still relatively stable?"

Even as he asked, Danzo didn't wait for an answer. He simply reached out and placed his hand on Takeshi's abdomen to check the seal.

"Hmm. Not bad. You've studied sealing techniques well. Very stable."

Danzo, who also knew the Four Symbols Seal, was quite satisfied with the seal that Takeshi had "engraved," and praised it almost reflexively.

"Uh, haha... It's all thanks to your good teaching..."

Takeshi chuckled awkwardly, but ultimately decided not to mention that it was Tsunade who had reinforced the seal. Otherwise, he might end up having to eat a few bitter consequences.

"So the only enemy was an Uchiha, huh..."

Seeing that the Tailed Beast wasn't showing any signs of acting up, Danzo finally set aside his concern and began reviewing the situation from the beginning.

"The one who controlled Yamanaka Akira and Shimura Ikku to send you that intel should be this Uchiha. His goal was to lure you to that area, then seal the Three-Tails into you, and finally let you escape on purpose to trigger the Tailed Beast going berserk and wreaking havoc in Konoha."

As expected of the old fox, Danzo quickly pieced together most of the truth.

"As the person involved, what did you manage to figure out?"

Danzo still held onto a last thread of hope for his son's intelligence.

"Uh..."

As expected, Takeshi was stumped by the question—and also as expected, he turned red with frustration.

Danzo sighed.

"Someone's stirring up trouble."

That was the best answer Takeshi could come up with.

"If they wanted to cause trouble, they had plenty of lower-risk targets to choose from. After all, on a battlefield like this, they could've used any chūnin or even a genin. So why choose you?"

Realizing that his son might actually die from overthinking if this went on, Danzo had no choice but to step in as the explainer.

"You need to understand—just to lure you out, they had to control two jōnin. If it had been any ordinary ninja, they'd have already succeeded by now."

"Also, the whereabouts of Uchiha Wada are still very suspicious."

Now that he'd learned the full story from Takeshi, Danzo took only a few minutes to dissect and analyze the entire situation, pinpointing several major points of concern.

"Right. We could read the memories of Yamanaka Akira and Shimura Ikku. I think the Yamanaka Clan should be able to..."

Takeshi's voice trailed off under Danzo's intense gaze.

Of course. If even he could think of that, his old man definitely could too.

"Hmph. Their memories have been destroyed. There's nothing we can extract."

Danzo gave Takeshi a long, heavy look and decided not to dwell on the topic.

"Do you know who saved you?"

Danzo's sudden question caught Takeshi completely off guard.

"I don't really remember..." Takeshi was a bit confused by the question.

Danzo's expression turned cold and sharp.

"Let me tell you. According to reports from my men, a blue skeletal figure suddenly appeared and smashed Kurosuki Raiga and the Mist ninja around him to bits."

A blue skeleton...

Susanoo!

That meant the one who saved him was Obito!

No wonder Root didn't want to tell him—they were wary of Obito's strength.

This was bad. Anyone who's seen Naruto knows Danzo loves collecting Mangekyō Sharingan more than anything. Obito might be in danger!

Especially with that cold gleam in Danzo's eyes, Takeshi couldn't shake the feeling that Obito was about to die in some obscure corner, riddled with hundreds of shuriken, with the cause of death labeled "suicide."

"Susanoo is an extremely rare dōjutsu even among the Uchiha. To possess it, one must first awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan."

As he spoke, Danzo watched Takeshi closely.

"According to earlier research, in order for an Uchiha to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, they must experience extreme emotional trauma—most commonly, witnessing the death of someone dear to them."

"Legend has it that Uchiha Madara awakened his Mangekyō by killing his best friend."

Danzo continued explaining everything about the Mangekyō Sharingan in detail, while Takeshi began calculating how he could plead for Obito's safety.

"It seems that in that Uchiha's eyes, you hold an extraordinary place."

Danzo's next words left Takeshi completely speechless.

Because Takeshi had deliberately kept the truth hidden, Danzo didn't know that Obito had awakened his Mangekyō long before this incident. So Danzo naturally assumed this event had triggered it.

"Though the Uchiha are often extreme, placing their clan's honor above all else, they are also deeply emotional. They'd willingly lay down their lives for a friend."

Danzo's face briefly showed a flicker of sorrow—as if remembering someone.

"With him by your side, your position will no doubt become even more secure."

Position? Secure?

What does that even mean?

Takeshi didn't quite understand what Danzo was implying, but he did catch one very important piece of information.

Obito was probably safe.

"What's your view of the Uchiha clan?"

Takeshi was already thirteen. With the Fourth Hokage's inauguration being prepared, Danzo had begun grooming his son's soft power—that is, his perspective and intelligence.

"The Uchiha... I think, deep down, they're still loyal to Konoha. If we gave them slightly more power..."

Hearing Danzo's question, Takeshi began to think seriously.

As he grew older, he had come to understand the Uchiha more deeply. But he hadn't yet come up with any good solution to the clan's strained relationship with the village. So he simply shared what he'd thought of so far.

Danzo, however, was not satisfied.

"You're only seeing the surface."

He pointed out Takeshi's flaw without hesitation.

"True, some in the Uchiha clan are loyal to the village. But as I've said before, they're a clan that values their own honor above the interests of Konoha."

"The loyal ones are always the minority. In terms of power, the Uchiha already control the village's police force, managing all of Konoha's internal security. Their power is already vast. Not to mention, they have semi-autonomous rights within the village. Frankly, the First Hokage gave them everything possible."

"And yet, they still want more."

At this point, Danzo couldn't help but clench his fist.

"During the First Hokage's time, Uchiha Madara rebelled and became a rogue ninja. After the battle at the Valley of the End, Madara died, and the First Hokage passed away not long after."

"The village never held the Uchiha clan accountable. But even so, the clan continued to revere Madara as their leader. Their elders rotated in power until just ten years ago, when they finally elected a new clan head—Uchiha Fugaku."
