As Sunshine left the training field, the chatter of the soldiers still echoed faintly behind her, she heard them gasp in unison when Carson said that one of the teams was going into the forest that afternoon.
A part of her wondered if she was doing the right thing. There was always a possibility that they would die out there. The base was so safe and comfortable, there was no doubt that many had the urge to just hide in their bubble and wait for the apocalypse to end.
But the thought of being boxed in and ruled by others made her more uneasy. The expansion needed to happen. Safety was for cowards. She had lived without the bubble and walls in her last life. She had lived without the bountiful supplies she had now and yet she survived.
"Have I become too reliant on the bubble?" She asked herself in a whisper.
