Chapter 1 - The Switch

Today was Alishas wedding at the beginning of there relationship she was sure she loved Jay.

But today she was feeling a bit off.

The arena was well decorated and lit, a sea of guest flooded the arena. Everyone sat waiting for the bride to arrive.

Alisha could barely breathe, her heart pounded in her chest.

Her sister came in.

"You look extremely beautiful darling, you are glowing I'm sure Jay won't be able to take his darting eyes off you. Look at him he's so restless."

Alisha held her sister's arm, her eyes filled with unspoken words.

Jays Aunt appeared and chased Alishas sister away.

It was time for her to be presented to the audience before the veiling ceremony.

"You know I am not just your sister I am your mother I raised you, I was by your side even when you were just a baby."

Carly said when they were out of ear shot, they were able to convince Jays Aunt to give them privacy.

"I do not think I can do this sis, I do not like him at all. If I get married to him I will be a house wife and nothing more."

Carly laughed but her laughter seized when she saw the serious look on Alishas face.

"Listen, it is time for the brides veiling please take my place. You are much older than I am, I am sure you need this marriage more than I do."

Carly was extremely confused, how could she sit there and pretend to be the bride, what was wrong with her sister.

Carly stared at Jay, his dark skin and turban not far away from them. This was cruel injustice.

"If you don't do this for me, I will kill myself right here. And I when I get to heaven I am sure our parents will agree that it was your fault."..

She sobbed and cried on Carly's lap.

Now Carly knew that a bride being there would give her sister the time she needed to escape. Carly agreed.

Carly sat in the bridal dress, a mixture of guilt and determination in her heart..

There was nothing she would not do for her sister and this was a proof of that.

She closed her eyes, her face hidden behind the white veil. Carly remembered her parents passing.

"Take good care of her she is yours now."..

It was her responsibility.

Carlys heart skipped a beat when she heard the priest say 'you may now kiss the bride.'

The veil was lifted, and the truth revealed.

Jays eyes widened, his glasses fell and he let it shatter on the ground.

Everyone of the congregants stood to there feet.

After pulling himself together, Jays voice thundered.

"Where is Alisha, and why are you here, why did you choose to make a fool out of me on this day.

I chose this day as my wedding, because this was the day I got married to my first wife but you….."

Jay lost his temper and started strangling Carly, her face turned red. The people separated them.

"Why do you want to kill such a useless person, you can always divorce her and let her live with the shame she has caused."

Jays Aunt spoke patting his back. Jay was breathing heavily now, he placed his hand on his chest and tried to speak.

"She made me do this." Carly tried to defend herself. When Deborah Jays Aunt tried to hit her with her palm.

A fragile hand held her back. It was Jays grandmother. She was shivering and then fell back to her wheel chair.

Deborahs eyes widened, for the first time in years Susan stood and actually tried to challenge her.

Deborahs eyes darted towards Carly, this was her doing but it will come to an end soon.

The crowd dispersed and everyone left home leaving Carly stranded.

Carly walked back to the mansion in her bridal dress, the lights and flashes from cameras making things even worse.

"Tell us madam, tell us, is it true that you are the unwanted gift madam."

Carly ran, there was no one to shield her from the public eye.

It was too late her face had already being captured.

Carly got into the mansion all drenched and tired. Walking into the living room she was welcomed with scary faces.

" I am sure you planned this from the very beginning, you knew you were to ugly to be accepted. So you made your sister pave the way for you."

Carly was too exhausted if they wanted to throw her out, they should hurry up and get on with it.

"Here, sign this divorce papers and leave. Your presence is irritable." Jay spat heartlessly.

As Carly's hands trembled on the papers. Her mind reflected on her homeless circumstance.

Carly had no where to go, no friend, she had no idea if a relative existed.

Jay had taken care of them from the first day he set his eyes on Alisha, his anger was justified.

Carlys sister was free, she eloped and now Carly was the one to take the bullet.

"Stop, she is the one for you, nothing ever happens out of will."

Jays grandmother tried to crawl down the stairs on her belly. Jay ran to her and carried her to the living room.

"For my sake my dear, please give her a chance let her stay. Who knows if you both were meant for each other."

Carlys eyes were filled with tears, she stared at Jay who was indifferent.

Jay left his mother on the black couch and held Carly's arm, taking her forcefully upstairs.

"I will never forgive your sister for betraying and hurting me, whenever I remember her you will be the one to face the consequences.

I will make sure to bury you along side my naive grandmother."

Carly sat on the bed and wept, she never imagined she would go through this.

Who would have thought Carly would end up in a loveless marriage. Not her dead parents, not even her sister.

But Carly knew the next morning held even worse tidings for her.

The arrival of Jay's sisters.
