Uriel arrived at midnight, though Apollonia only noticed his presence upon seeing a hydrangea decorating the table.
She picked it up, and despite not sensing anyone’s presence, she suddenly heard a low voice behind her. “It’s been a long time, Your Highness.”
“I was waiting for you.”
“I know.”
“The palace became quite heavily guarded over the last year… I was worried you wouldn’t make it past them.”
“It didn’t really make a difference.”
Uriel’s reply was short, his voice carrying a hint of gentleness. Apollonia’s smile widened at his words, prompting her to turn around and face him.
“Why do I feel like you’ve gotten bigger?” she mused aloud.
