Through the open window, a white-eyed bat with scars on its cheek flew in.
Despite its scruffy appearance—with a battered face, unfocused eyes, and messy coat—Apollonia greeted it warmly.
“Welcome, Pan.”
Pan was one of Evangelin’s monsters.
She’d explained that while white-eyed bats might not be as clever as winged monkeys or as persistent and fast as one-eyed crows, they were well-suited for simple errands because of their docile nature.
“Winged monkeys either get depressed over doing simple tasks or start lying for fun.”
That was the reason Pan was tasked with shorter journeys, shuttling between Evangelin and Apollonia to deliver documents.
“I’m glad I prepared some snacks.”
Adrianne, who had been watching, brought a plate of fruit. Pan let out a joyful cry and eagerly nibbled on a piece of apple.
“I’d heard he had a refined taste, but he truly only eats expensive apples. Despite his appearance, he’s quite lady-like.”
