Chapter 6 - Let's not divorce

Li Wenhao:

My eyes could not leave the view beside me. I had wished for this—for so long. And now, I finally had it.

Now… we were finally complete.

Flashback:

"Let's not divorce."

"Ehn?" I couldn't help but ask, thinking I must have misheard him.

"Let's not divorce," he repeated, making sure I heard him clearly this time.

"I don't want Xiao Bao to grow up feeling like there's a family member who doesn't love him."

I could feel the sadness in his eyes.

I had heard he was not on good terms with his parents… maybe that was where this fear stemmed from.

"Yeah!" Xiao Bao jumped down from his chair and ran over to us, full of energy.

"Papa, Dada is stayin' wif us!" he shouted, his chubby cheeks puffed up with joy as he bounced in place.

"Come, let Dada carry you," Xu Shiyan said, arms wide open.

Xiao Bao eagerly jumped into the open embrace, giggling as Xu Shiyan lifted him off the ground.

I looked at them with a doting gaze, warmth blooming in my chest. "Let me call the driver to get the car ready, so we can go."

He nodded in agreement. I picked up my phone and dialed the driver's number.

He picked up within a minute.

"Come and pick us up, we're ready to leave," I said.

"Okay, sir. I'll park the car in front of the restaurant."

I ended the call and walked back to the table, picking up the divorce file. Without another word, I tucked it neatly into my bag.

Xu Shiyan stood up from the chair, Xiao Bao happily secured in his arms.

"Let's go," he said.

"Mm," I hummed in response, quietly matching his pace as we walked toward the exit.

The driver opened the front door and greeted me. I could see the questioning look in his eyes when he saw Xu Shiyan with me, but I did not bother explaining.

We both entered the car. The journey home was a little quiet, except for Xiao Bao's soft snores.

"He's a little heavier than he looks," I said, watching as Xiao Bao lay flat on Xu Shiyan's lap for support, his thumb tucked in his mouth.

He looked at me and shook his head. "Not at all."

Then his gaze softened, turning doting as he watched Xiao Bao sleep. "He's so petite."

How do you call a two-year-old and some months growing boy petite? I personally have a hard time carrying him.

I scolded myself inwardly. If Xu Shiyan wasn't strong, how would he have topped me?

I was supposed to be the one to top him. That was the plan.

But I was taught a lesson that fateful night.

"Are you okay?" he asked suddenly.

"Ehn? Why do you ask?" I turned to him, confused by the sudden question.

"Your face is red. I'm wondering if you have a fever."

"Oh. It's nothing."

"Okay," he said, and silence returned. That's one thing about our relationship—we are both introverted, so it's always quiet when it comes to communication.

"We really do look alike," he said, probably after noticing the awkward silence.

"Yeah. Especially your bluish eyes. They're so beautiful," I added, unable to hold back the compliment.

"Thanks," he said a little awkwardly.

Ring!

"I think your phone vibrated."

"Mm. I think someone is calling me," he said, adjusting carefully to take his phone from his pocket.

"It's Ru Yan."

Hearing that name, my mood instantly dropped.

Because it was inconvenient to hold the phone with Xiao Bao resting in his arms, he had to put it on speaker. I could have easily taken the baby from him—but I didn't want to. I wanted to hear what that man had to say to my husband.

Yes—my husband. We were no longer getting divorced.

"Hello—"

"Shut up, you wicked friend! Bastard!"

A barrage of insults spilled through the phone.

"Ru Yan, calm down. What did I do?" Xu Shiyan asked, clearly confused.

"How dare you…" His voice was shaking, almost as if he were too angry to form full sentences. "You left me in the car park for hours! I felt I couldn't wait anymore, so I entered the restaurant—only to hear you had followed Li Wenhao."

I felt a little smug hearing that.

"This is the second time you're doing this! You left me again for that man—Li Wenhao!" His voice trembled like he was about to sob.

"I'm really sorry, Ru Yan. I was so caught up in things that I forgot you were waiting outside for me. I'm truly sorry."

"Forget that—did you sign the divorce papers?"

Hearing the word " divorce", I had to resist the urge to strangle him through the phone.

"Ehmm…"

"Don't tell me you didn't sign them! What excuse do you have? I don't to hear you fell in love with that man again. What—love at first sight?!"

"No, no, it's just that—"

"It's just that what?!"

"I found out I had a child," Xu Shiyan said, dropping the bomb without warning.

"You have—no—ehn—what? You have a child?! When? Where? Who?!"

Ru Yan was clearly stunned.

"Calm down. I was about to sign the divorce paper when Li Wenhao told me I had a child. And before you accuse him of deceiving me—I saw the boy with my own eyes," Xu Shiyan explained.

A long sigh came from the phone. Then, quietly, "Who's the mother?"

I could feel Xu Shiyan glance at me.

It didn't take long to understand—he was silently asking for permission to tell the truth.

If telling the truth meant Ru Yan would finally leave him alone… then I had no problem with it.

I nodded with a small smile.

"It's Li Wenhao."

Silence.

"What do you mean it's Li Wenhao? He's a man. Or is there another Li Wenhao I don't know of?!"

"It's the same Li Wenhao. I don't know how to explain it exactly… but he was born with a woman's womb."

It was kinda embarrassing for me.
