Chapter 2 - (Re)Start

After a few minutes, at last, we arrived at Kolopua Island. When we left our ship, I saw Ardianto, a person with short, neat, and dark teal/blackish-blue hair with a side part, standing in front of the port gate and there was a person with deep red hair with lighter red highlights beside him, I think he was Uda.

"It seems you are fine."

"Yeah, it seems like that," Ardianto answered with a smile.

"Sahabi, do you bring my request?" Uda asked.

"Yes, your request is on the ship. You can take it right now."

"Wuuuhu, thanks Sahabi. It's been a long time since the last package you sent. I'm worried that you forgot us."

"Sorry, but the situation is kinda dangerous. We don't want to take the risk that they find you all."

"Oh, I just remembered we are still criminals out there. Okay, I'll take my stuff then, once again thanks Sahabi."

"Yeah."

Then Uda went to the ship while pulling the wagon to carry his stuff to the car in front of the port.

"Looks like we still need more time until we can leave this island."

"Yeah, the Matahari organization is still dangerous right now. Wrong step and you all will be killed. We are still searching for a way to make them believe that you all are fine right now."

"After what we did, I think it's impossible."

"Don't worry, everything will be alright, we will work hard to make sure you all get your life again!"

"Well, you are so kind, Sahabi, as expected from The People's Hero."

"Hehe, you just exaggerate it."

"And you are..." Ardianto looks at Almira.

"Ah, I'm Almira, Sahabi's friend and I work in the Matahari organization too. Nice to meet you."

"I'm Ardianto, nice to meet you too. By the way you...by any chance a sprint athlete before?"

"Eh, how do you know ?"

"Just guess I think."

"It seems you are getting used to your body right now," I interrupted.

"Yeah, for now, I can control it but take the wrong step and he will show up."

"Hm, but I believe you can take care of that. I'm sure because you are strong."

"Well, thanks Sahabi."

"Uh, you two, what are you talking about ?" Almira asked in confusion.

"Do you remember Naradi Yosef ?" I asked in return.

"Yeah, one of the most dangerous people with multi-talent."

"Ardianto is him."

"Huh, Ardianto is Naradi ?!" Almira surprised.

"Yeah, short story Ardianto and Naradi are the same person with different personalities, I think it's kinda similar to Zalindra."

"Oh, okay but they look so different," Almira looks at Ardianto.

"Well, I prefer my old look, long hair is not comfortable for me," said Ardianto.

"Haha, agree. It's troublesome I think," I said while scrubbing my hair.

We talked and joked around until I decided to ask him about the report that he sent to me. I don't know why but I need to confirm it fast.

"Yes, that's my conclusion after examining that machine," He tried to sound sure of himself, but the doubt in his eyes revealed his inner conflict.

"But how? I mean is it real ?"

Almira looks worried but I think that's normal. I kinda don't believe what I heard but I think this is the truth.

"First, I thought it was a joke from Uda but after I tried to use it, I proved that the machine was real."

"Eh, what happened ?" I asked curiously.

"Around one week ago, Uda died by falling down from a cliff and I decided to use the machine then you can see he is still fine right now."

"That's unbelievable."

"I hope we can use it for something."

"Yeah, but that's kinda not right...I mean we talk about changing history."

"I think so too but is it one of the best ways we have ?"

"What do you mean?" Almira asked curiously.

"If we can go back in time and prevent the incident then the world will become a better place," Ardianto shared his thoughts with a hopeful tone, emphasizing the possibilities ahead.

"You're right, but we still don't know the bad effects of using that machine," I spoke cautiously.

"Yes, that's bothering me too and that's why I'm still not telling all of my friends. The only one who knows besides me is Uda."

"That's good I think. If they know it, they will probably do something reckless."

"So, what do you think we must do? I can't keep this secret for a long time. Soon they will find it and before it happens, I hope I can tell them first."

"Yeah, that's right. By the way how many people can go in ?"

"Only one"

"Uh, so we need to believe in one person to save the world," Almira said with a worried look.

"It seems like that and I know you can do it Sahabi," Ardianto spoke with a clear tone and conviction.

"Eh? Me ?!" I surprised.

"Yeah, you are the best candidate we have."

"But why not you, Ardianto ?"

"My condition is not stable and we can't take the risk that the Naradi will awake and take control of my body. That's dangerous you know."

"You're right but I'm still not sure about this."

"I believe in you Sahabi. If any person should go then it must be you," Almira agreed without hesitation, her voice steady and assured.

"Almira."

"I think all of our friends will agree if we discuss it. Only people who have a crazy idea to save the most dangerous people that fit with this job."

"You exaggerated it again, Ardianto."

After that, we met Ardianto's friends and did a video conference with Fitria and others.

The call connects, and the screen splits into four tiles—me, three faces on video, and the rest scattered around me in the same room. It's a strange kind of gathering—half virtual, half physical, all of us stitched together by a shared cause.

In the top left corner of the screen, a girl with a short, sleek bob with dark maroon tones, styled with a side-swept fringe, is Fitria. She's in a dimly lit space, her soft greenish eyes with a serene sharp. Always watching. She doesn't talk unless he has something important to say. Next to her, a boy with short, neatly parted, and stark white, is Rangga, his face half-shadowed by lamp light. He's scribbling something on paper even as the call starts. Weird, impatient, relentless. Below them, a boy with long, black, and shaggy with thick bangs and loose sections falling over his shoulders, is Kambali, sitting in some cluttered space filled with books. He waves with that awkward grin of his.

And then there's us—the rest of us, in the same room, the kind of presence you can feel in the air.

To my left is Almira, arms crossed, already restless in her seat. Next to her is Uda, leaning back like this is just another meeting, but his fingers keep tapping out rhythms on his knee. For me, it seems like he's on edge, and trying not to show it.

By the far wall is Tami, the girl with light blonde, styled in a high ponytail with side bangs and a wavy strand falling in front, perched on a table instead of a chair. Beside her is Langgeng, a dark skin boy with short, dark brown or black, with a golden-yellow headband tied around the top. He doesn't always speak unless you ask him something directly.

Near the back is Uchita, a girl with medium-length, sleek dark purple hair with soft curls at the ends and a prominent pale pink rose accessory adorns the left side, seated straight, hands folded in her lap. Calm, composed. And finally, to my right, is Ardianto. He's got his chair turned halfway toward me like he's waiting for a signal.

And me? I'm the one holding the remote, halfway between faces on a screen and bodies in a room.

The discussion starts with a strange kind of quiet—heavier than usual. Everyone knows what's on the table. The time machine. And more importantly, who's going to use it? One voice breaks the silence, laying out the stakes, the technical limits, and the fact that only one person can go. Faces on the screen shift—some tense, some unreadable. Suggestions come slowly at first, half-formed, careful. No one wants to sound like they're volunteering, but no one wants to sound like they're refusing, either. Then the arguments begin—who's the most qualified, who has the cleanest record, who remembers the right things. Emotions rise, not out of ego, but fear. This isn't a mission—it's a gamble. One shot to go back, fix what broke, and hope it doesn't break worse. Names are offered. Some rejected. Some linger. Through it all, the silence of those not speaking grows louder. And in the end, it won't just be logic that decides—it'll be trust. And the weight of what they're willing to put on one person's shoulders.

After meaningful discussion, then at last, just as Ardianto expected, I am the one who will go back in time.

Facing the time machine capsule in the dim, humming stillness of the chamber. The capsule door was open, its interior aglow with a soft, sterile light that made the air feel colder than it was. Everything had been checked before. A final moment to hold onto before the jump made everything uncertain. Once I closed that door, there'd be no turning back.

"So, how does this machine work ?"

"Similar to the Purification capsule I think. Just enter it and you will get a long sleep after pressing the launch button there. Next time you awake, you will realize that the future has changed."

"So, is there a time limit until I wake up ?"

"No, there isn't."

"Eh? So how can I wake up ?"

"I don't understand it either, when I saved Uda, it's like I just realized something and woke up. Then I left the capsule and I met Uda who looked fine at all."

"So is there a chance for me not to wake up ?"

"Yes, and I think you know that in this condition, death isn't a choice."

"Hm...well, you're right. This machine works like a Purification capsule, if I don't finish my goal it seems I will be unconscious forever."

"Yes, I think so too."

"How about the destination ?"

"It seems this machine will decide the best time and place based on your goal."

"Then I would not know when or where I would arrive ?"

"Something like that."

"Wow, do you think I'll be alright ?"

"Before Hero, you're a lucky person and everyone will keep and protect the capsule, so don't worry, I think you'll be alright. Be careful and I'm sure you will succeed."

"Ahahaha, It seems I don't have a choice..."

After talking with Ardianto, we went back to the conference room and met with others.

"So, I think this is farewell."

"I believe in you, Sahabi. I know this is not easy but please save all of our friends," Almira said, nearly crying.

"Sahabi, good luck, your fortune seems good," Kambali said.

"I'll make sure you feel regret if you don't use this opportunity, that is Zalindra's message. Well for me, Good luck" Rangga said.

"Don't do something reckless and come back safely, we're waiting for you," Fitria said.

"If you get a problem stopping me, just give me a lot of food and there will be no problem," Tami said with a smile.

"Well, I don't think it will be that easy Tami, but I know you can do it Sahabi, please save all of us," Uchita said.

"If you can't save me, at least please save Lia," Langgeng said with a sad voice.

"Well, go and meet me fast and wake me up from delusion. I'm sure I'll help you after that," Uda said with a serious eye.

"Good luck friend," Ardianto said with confidence.

"Yeah," I said with a smile and looked at everyone.

I went into the chamber and entered the machine. Then, I took a breath for a while. When I decided to press the launch button, I don't know why but my body seemed to tremble. Well, now I think my feelings seem confused. Is it the right thing to do? Am I good enough to save my friends? Can I protect the world? After many times those questions showed up, I realized that this task was so heavy. I felt my sweat drop from my head. Doubt, worry, and fear start to eat me. I can't do this. Yeah, this is so heavy for me to take, I must go out from here.

Then, when I tried to stand from my seat, my head hurt and at that time I saw something. A picture, a picture of a familiar building. I think it's Starlight Academy. Even though the building seemed different and damaged, I'm sure that was Starlight Academy. In the front park, I saw a crowd, a crowd of Starlight students, and there was a banner that had "Graduation Ceremony" written on it, in front of the gate.

"Graduation ceremony, I don't remember getting one in starlight and I think I'm still not attending it even though my memory from that time is missing."

After that, I saw a group of people come from outside and meet the graduation student...hm...even though I couldn't see their faces, I don't know but it seemed I knew these people. I'm curious, are they seniors, friends, or juniors? Then, my head hurts again and I'm awake.

"Ukh, what the..." I said while breathing heavily.

Then, I tried to regain my senses and took a long breath.

I'm sure that picture was not from my memory, but I don't know why but the nostalgic and positive feeling comes from my heart.

"If that is not the past, then is it the future ?"

I stayed quiet for a while.

"..."

I smiled.

"How foolish I am," I said while hitting my face.

I should not hesitate.

"Fuuuh."

Calmly, I sat down pressed the launch button, and began my journey. Journey to the future that even I don't know if I'm in there.

"Well… I don't know what will happen to me, but if by any chance I can go back to that time…I'll use all of my strength to save all of my friends…especially her."
