A few days passed like this, and Kael went to his classes as usual. On his way back home, he noticed someone standing in front of his house. The moment he saw the familiar figure, his chest tightened. He already knew who it was.
It was Zayden.
Kael felt uneasy as he walked closer.
"Kael, you're here," Zayden said, starting the conversation.
Kael only nodded, his face showing clear displeasure. "Why are you here?"
"I just wanted to talk to you. Won't you invite me inside?" Zayden asked, using innocent puppy-like eyes.
Kael blinked in surprise. So he can make those eyes? he thought, confused but still annoyed.
After Kael went to freshen up, Zayden made himself comfortable on the sofa, letting out a long sigh as if he belonged there.
Suddenly Kael returned and asked, "Tell me, Zayden. Why are you really here?"
His tone was sharp, and Zayden flinched a little.
"You're an omega… right?" Zayden asked carefully.
"Yeah, so?" Kael replied, even colder this time.
"Hey, don't misunderstand, Kael. I just wanted to know… since when? I feel stupid for not knowing my friend was an omega after all these years."
Kael didn't reply. He simply stared at him, his eyes filled with discomfort and a bit of resentment.
"I'm sorry. I think I'm making you uncomfortable," Zayden said quietly as he stood up. "I'll come again next time."
Kael stopped him. "Just ask whatever you want now."
Zayden froze. He wanted to ask everything in his heart, but he felt that if he opened up now, it would end badly. So he shook his head. Just then, his phone rang.
"Sorry, I need to take this," he said and walked away, leaving the house soon after.
Kael sighed deeply, exhausted from the emotional mess. He slumped onto the sofa and whispered to himself,
"Oh God… I just want to move on. Please, Zayden… don't give me false hope."
