Chapter 4 - Getting Used to Things

She groggily opened her eyes to see that her surroundings had now changed to that of one inside a cave, which is what she assumed due to the pure darkness around her.

She sat up, still tired and hazy from the amount of stamina that had been drained from her, and put her hands down to support her.

When her hand touched what felt like the floor, it felt round and somewhat squishy.

When she looked down, she saw that her hand was on an obviously dead humans face.

She wanted to scream in terror, but since her body was still waking up after fainting, nothing came out.

she just sat there terrified.

Then her eyes widened even more as in her focus of the face, she saw a leg.

She looked at her surroundings finally and saw that she was on a mountain of corpses, what looked like carelessly thrown into piles.

After having surveyed the area still with a haze in her sight, her body finally entirely woke up.

The stench finally caught up as well, causing her to instantly cover her nose and want to puke.

'Where is this?' She thought to herself, choosing to try and push the thought she was on top of piles of dead humans away.

Finally, she remembers what had happened over, what she assumed to be, the course of a day.

The fact that everyone she knew and loved was dead truly hitting her at this moment as she looked down and recognized the woman's face.

Tears started to fall but still, no sound came out of her mouth.

She knew that the only reason that all the bodies of her loved ones and all the others from other villages were gathered could be because of the monsters.

She knew that if she made too much sound the monsters may hear her and rush after her.

After saying her final goodbyes and not wanting to search for her father, knowing that it would waste too much time and would put her into an even more emotional state, she started trying to find her way off the pile of corpses.

She then grabbed her swords, which she had just realized that were around her and were the reasons she could see at all and ordered one to fly down and illuminate the corpse pile with its negligeable glow.

She knew that this was risky, but she told the second one to follow her as she moves, put one foot on a foothold but not putting too much weight on it, felt it was somewhat stable, and committed.

Knowing that at least this much was fine, she purely focused on going down as slowly and safely as possible, knowing that one wrong step could cause her to fall and hurt herself and/or make the pile tip over.

As she climbed down, the smell continued to get even worse, and then she started to see the decomposing bodies with the glow of the sword below her.

Thinking she was down far enough, she ordered the first sword to float all the way down and show her how close to the floor she was.

To her happiness, she didn't have to climb on the decomposing ones since she knew that the height that was remaining was fine to drop at.

So, she got down a little bit lower and jumped off as softly as possible and landed on the ground, keeping the pile from falling.

Now that she was on the floor, she took the sword that was floating behind her and held it close to her, using it as a light source and just in case she needed protection, and had the first sword scan the room to look for any sort of opening or doorway.

After wandering for a bit, the first swords glow finally illuminated over an opening for her to go through.

She sighed in relief and walked through, ordering the second to figure out how wide and tall it is since she only can see a bit of one side of it.

After a few seconds, the sword reaches the other side and because of how low it's flying, accidentally stabs itself into some flesh on the ground.

Confused, she orders it to hover over what it just stabbed to show the body of what was once a sleeping goblin.

Being cautious, she had her swords sweep every bit of the floors in this walkway not hoping to wake up anything sleeping, and walked into the areas cleared by them.

To her surprise and her thankfulness of being able to mentally control the swords, she ended up killing ten more goblins, gaining said amount of souls.

She quickly upgraded her swords sharpness, bringing them to a normal swords sharpness, putting her soul count to 2 and her next sharpness upgrade to 15S.

After her upgrade, she also noticed that the further she goes in, the more monsters she sees.

At first, it was goblins, and then it was lizardmen.

She was luckily able to kill them just as easily as the goblins thanks to them being asleep, and she was thankful for these easy kills.

A tiny bit later, she saw light and saw all the monsters disappear with no other forks in the road, so she assumed that's all the cave had to offer.

She smiled because she now had twenty souls in her inventory and instantly bought more sharpness which brought her down to 5 souls remaining and made the upgrade cost 20S.

This making her sword able to make a mark on the stone.

She also noticed something else in the upgrades section

'Sword tiers...' she thought to herself.

There six tiers of swords in this world.

Common, uncommon, rare, epic, heroic, and historical.

Each tier is not comparable to the other, but if a sword master has a common sword and faces a newbie with a historical one, the sword master will still win.

'So the more I kill, the higher the tier will get?'

With that, she finally walked out and was blinded by the sun when she did so as her eyes were adjusted to the dark.

Because of the bright light, she had to block her eyes.

A minute later, she was finally able to see again and had a smile cross her face when she saw the view she had.

She saw the sun shining down on a massive forest that surrounds the hill she was on that stretches farther than her eyes could see.

Focusing again, she looked down much more seriously, summoned one sword in her hand, and had the other float around her, ready to protect her from any attack.

When walking towards the forest, she looked at her status and saw her level only went up by two.

'Is it seriously that hard to level up? I killed like 30 of them!'

She also decided to start to save her status points.

After looking over her stats, she arrives at the front of the forest.

'It's sad I didn't really look around the forest like dad wanted me to. I could have probably recognized this place.... Unless I was moved out of the forest. Wait, now that I think about it, why do they drag every human killed to this place? This gives me so many questions that will probably stay unanswered.'

She sighs and finally walks into the forest.

'Since I don't know where I am, ill just walk in a straight line.'

And that she did.

After a while, she saw that it was getting dark and decided to set up camp.

She started to gather wood to set up a campfire.

'It's weird. I haven't came across a single monster... I really want one to appear in all honesty, not at night of course.'

She quickly collected all of the need materials and set them up.

She then summons her two swords and says, "Go above the wood and clash against each other enough to create sparks to set the wood on fire."

The swords do just that and they only need to do so once to create enough sparks to get the fire going.

She then sits down and leans on a tree close by the fire and looks at it in a daze as she is in her thoughts.

She is once again trying to go over everything that just happened as it was that magical to someone like her.

'With my powers I am supposed to judge humanity? How? Why me? I know I got an answer to that, but there has to be more to it. I am also supposed to kill humans? How could I do that? They were all so nice to me. Even those foreign to the village.'

And she continued to think about questions like that.

After a little while longer of those thoughts, she ordered one of her swords to guard her, unsummoned the other one and fell asleep.

When she woke up, she felt refreshed.

After stretching, she thought, 'alright. Time to find some monsters!'

She quickly put out her fire and continued on her path.

However, she was on guard.

As she was walking, she noticed that the forest was quiet. Too quiet.

After a little bit of walking, she quickly dodged to the side after feeling an attack coming at her and saw the body of a wolf lunge past where her body used to be with its jaw open ready to bite.

After missing her, it slid for a bit before turning to look at her.

She quickly summoned her other sword and ordered it to protect her front and quickly looked behind her.

She then saw three more wolfs start to get into a circle and slowly walk around her while growling.

She ordered the sword to protect her back and got into her sword stance, waiting for her opportunity to attack.

After she did that, one wolf lunged at her right side, but she was prepared for it and impaled it through its mouth.

Using the opportunity, the other three wolves lunged at her.

The wolf at her back was then also impaled by the flying sword and she quickly moved towards the area between the two dead wolves to dodge the other twos lunge.

Using the time the wolf to her left had to use to regain balance, she stabbed the wolf through its chest and sliced sideways, creating a large slice in its body, killing it..

She then sent the flying sword after the last one which blasted itself towards the wolf but it jumped out of the way of the sword. It would have survived that move had the sword not instantly changed its direction mid air and stabbed itself through the wolves head.

"Phew. That was fun... Dammit, please don't say I am starting to like battle."

She then shakes her head at herself.

"So, how are my stats looking?"

"Eh? Two levels? What? But I went up that much when I killed all those in the caves..."

She then thought of a solution.

"Is it based on how hard the battle was?" She thought to herself.

"Well, ill have many more battles to test this theory."

And with that, she spent many more days inside the forest

Not a lot of them were her fighting. Most of the time, she was going in a straight line, gathering materials like food and water, and sleeping.

Out of the ten other days in the forest, only four of them had fights.

The first one was with another group of wolves, 6 to be exact.

The second one was a fight with a much bigger wolf, who was able to blend into its surroundings and ambush her, which was over pretty quickly thanks to her getting enough intelligence to be able to make two swords intelligently battle.

The third fight was in the dead of night where she had to fight 3 of what looked to be different variants of wolves since they had black fur to blend into their surroundings.

And the last fight was on the final day, which is where everything will pick up again.

Nike can be seen cooking some meat, waiting for it to finish.

She is obviously much skinnier than before.

She looks down to her hip and sees the areas the black furred wolves hit her, thankful that her cloth could be more of use to her than just covering her up.

'I was so used to sleeping peacefully at night that they got me. At least it wasn't anything deep.'

She then looked up.

'So, how are my stats looking?'

She puts five into both strength and vitality and 20 into intelligence leaving her with fifteen points left.

She closes the window and gives a small smile.

But it instantly turns into a frown when she finally notices the state her clothes are in.

After having fought many battles starting from the lizardmen, her clothes had started to become useless as time went on.

Right now, most of her pants were currently destroyed, only having the upper half remaining, her shirt is practically non existent, and so is her bra.

She quickly discarded whatever little clothing she had on and knew she had to go nude for the rest of the way.

The three wolves bodies were still lying there, one being crudely cut open with its insides taken out.

For an update on her situation, after walking forward for a while, she found a stream of water.

Knowing cities and villages like to build near water, she started to follow it instead of wander aimlessly forward.

After finishing her food, she leaves the bodies behind and continues moving forward due to her not wanting to attract any more monsters towards her.

Which of course didn't work.

Her and the wolves blood still on her are emanating off of her after all.

The smell brings in quite the big catch.

"ROOOAR!"

She instantly turned her head to see a bear start barreling towards her.

"Shit!" She exclaimed.

The thing about these bears are that their hide is multiple times stronger than a wolves so it would need to take a much heavier or faster force than she could quickly produce.

She quickly jumped out of the way, sending the bear into the water.

Sadly for her, it is only up to the bears knees in height.

It quickly turns around, much quicker than it should and starts to slowly move towards her while snarling.

She instantly brought her a sword into her hand the other one pointed itself at its enemy.

In response to this, it started to run at her.

All she could think of was,

'Wish I had fire magic right now.'

As soon as she was ready to attack, the flying sword launched itself at the enemy aiming for its head, more specifically one of its eyes.

While when she runs, she aims for its legs, trying to slash at the area behind the knee

And to her surprise, it makes it bleed but doesn't cut through purely due to the force behind the attack.

The flying sword however missed as it quickly ducked and its head was hit, only leaving a dent in its hide, causing the sword to rebound and fly off a small ways.

However, it was instantly sent onto a knee after the force put behind the swing.

She then quickly struck down onto the bear with all her strength but again only barely slices open the skin.

However, she planned for that.

The flying sword quickly shot down in the exact spot her sword hit, and thanks to the speed it had and the already damaged hide, it was able to impale the bear.

The bear roared in pain which was quickly stopped by Nike after she plunged her sword into its eye, being stopped by its skull which caused it to faint due to the pain, and quickly die after.

She slowly took the sword out of its eye, her arms shaking as she does due to her exhaustion and how hard it was to pull the sword from its skull.

She then quickly fell down, her legs giving out on her, and she sits there for a while, regaining her breath and waiting for her legs to go back to normal.

As soon as she was ready to continue, she did so.

She forced herself to continue walking, eventually using her swords as supports.

To her happiness, she saw what seemed to be the end of the forest and the her happiness gave her enough adrenaline to run forwards, letting her finally see her first sign of civilization, a house.

There was a lady tending to the laundry that was hung up and herd movement coming from the forest, looked over and saw a nude woman who was heavily malnourished and bloody who wore a happy face suddenly collapse.

The woman rushed over to Nike to check on her and heard her still breathing so she sighed in relief.
