Before Shirou Emiya received the message, Emiya City remained calm.
Everything moved in its usual rhythm.
By the time morning work ended, Rimuru had already finished reviewing the mountain of documents stacked on her desk. Every seal had been placed. Every report processed.
"Finally, I can rest."
Rimuru stood, stretched her arms overhead, and let out a lazy groan. The stiffness in her shoulders eased as she relaxed.
"As expected of Lord Rimuru, the documents have been handled perfectly!"
Shion, standing at her side as always, smiled brightly as she spoke. There was no hesitation in her praise. In Shion's heart, Rimuru was unquestionably perfect.
"Hehe. Do you know how many documents I've gone through during this period?" Rimuru said, chuckling to herself as she turned toward the exit. "At this point, I'm basically a professional civil servant."
With that, she stepped away from the desk.
"Since everything urgent is done, let's go inspect the city. If there are any problems, we'll deal with them on the spot."
In matters of city construction, Rimuru's importance was absolute.
Both she and Shirou Emiya could easily propose advanced ideas that were far ahead of this world's common sense. But ideas alone were never enough. The real challenge was always implementation.
That was where magic came in.
Many problems that could not be solved through ordinary craftsmanship were resolved through the application of magicules. And when even Rimuru and Shirou hit a wall, the Great Sage always had an answer.
No matter the issue, Rimuru could always find a solution.
That was why, when overseeing city development, Rimuru made a habit of touring the streets personally. She listened to the voices of craftsmen, merchants, and laborers, and helped resolve issues directly when they arose.
"Hmm. Wouldn't this work better?"
"Ah!"
The Orc craftsmen nearby froze for a moment, then burst into excitement.
"As expected of Lord Rimuru! What a genius idea!"
The problem concerned the production of automatic hot water faucets. None of them had imagined such a simple solution. By placing a magicule hub above the faucet, the user's own magicules would activate it. The water would heat naturally as it flowed.
No switches. No additional mechanisms.
Just magic.
The Orcs stared at the prototype as if it were a miracle.
"Actually, it's all thanks to the Great Sage," Rimuru said quickly, her face warming as she waved her hands. "I just passed along the idea."
Still, the praise didn't stop.
Embarrassed, Rimuru didn't linger. She quickly made her way back onto the street.
"Truly Lord Rimuru, what a genius!"
"No more, Shion. Please stop," Rimuru said, covering her face slightly as they walked. The compliments only made it worse.
"No, no. Shion is absolutely right," another voice said. "Lord Rimuru really is a genius."
The speaker was Fritz.
While wandering the city, Rimuru and Shion had run into him by chance. Naturally, they ended up walking together.
"That's enough. Seriously," Rimuru said, trying to shut the topic down as quickly as possible.
Then-
A sharp killing intent surged from ahead.
Rimuru's steps halted.
"This is-"
Before she could finish, Shion had already moved. Her long blade was drawn in a smooth motion as she stepped in front of Rimuru. At the same time, Souei emerged from the shadows, his presence no longer concealed.
Rimuru also sensed Hakurou.
He stood quietly on a nearby tree trunk, his gaze fixed forward.
"Who goes there!" Shion shouted.
"Wait. Don't panic."
Rimuru raised her hand quickly.
"That presence... it feels familiar."
A moment later, a figure streaked down from above.
Milim landed with a thud, brimming with excitement, ready to strike.
"Stop," Rimuru said immediately.
Milim clicked her tongue but halted, retreating to stand behind Rimuru.
"I know, I know," she muttered.
As the tension settled, a green silhouette materialized before them.
"Long time no see, Lord Alliance Leader."
The newcomer knelt.
It was a Dryad.
More precisely, it was Traya-the younger sister of Treyni, the Dryad who had once appeared during the negotiations with Dwarf King Gazel.
"Hello," Rimuru replied. "But... what happened to you?"
The answer was obvious.
Even from a distance, her killing intent had been sharp enough to alert everyone present. Up close, the damage was impossible to ignore. Her body was partially transparent. Several sections were missing entirely.
Severe injuries.
"The situation is urgent," Traya said without delay. "The disaster-class monster Charybdis has revived."
The name alone made the air grow heavy.
"That giant monster is overwhelmingly powerful. Comparable to a Demon Lord."
Her voice trembled, but she pressed on.
"My sisters attempted to stop it. They couldn't injure it at all."
Rimuru's expression hardened.
"And worse... its destination appears to be this land."
Traya clenched her fists.
"Charybdis rules the skies. Ground-based combat units are useless against it. You must immediately strengthen your defenses and deploy those capable of aerial combat."
Fatigue was etched into her face, but her words remained clear.
The atmosphere shifted instantly.
The first to react was Fritz.
"A Dryad...?"
He froze for a split second, shock flashing across his face. But the moment the name Charybdis registered, his expression turned pale.
"You said Charybdis?"
His voice tightened.
"That can't be. If it's truly revived, it's even more dangerous than a Demon Lord."
He swallowed.
"There's no negotiation with it. A Demon Lord can still be reasoned with, but that monster-no chance."
According to Fritz, Charybdis was categorized as disaster-class. But in terms of pure threat, it surpassed even calamity-class monsters.
It possessed no intelligence.
No goals.
No army under its command.
It simply rampaged according to its instincts.
And yet, that made it even more dangerous.
Through its unique skill, Monster Summon, it could call forth shark-type monsters known as Megarodon. These creatures were temporary constructs formed from magicules, and would eventually dissipate.
But while they existed, they were still A-minus rank monsters.
And Charybdis could summon more than a dozen at once.
Just dealing with its familiars would be enough to overwhelm most forces.
"The reason is unclear," Benimaru said as he arrived, his presence steady and resolute. "But if this city has been targeted, then we prepare."
His fighting spirit burned quietly.
"We select personnel immediately and prepare to intercept."
"Only aerial combat units..." Rimuru muttered.
Then she froze.
"Oh. Right."
She slapped her forehead lightly.
"Gabiru. He can fly. He's a Dragonewt."
"He's probably still buried in research in that cave of his," Rimuru added. "Someone go get him. Now."
"I'll go," Souei said instantly.
Speed was his specialty. There was no better choice.
"While you're at it," Rimuru continued, "bring Vesta as well. We might need the Dwarf King's cooperation."
"Yes," Souei replied.
His figure vanished in an instant.
"Next," Rimuru said, exhaling slowly, "we need to inform Shirou."
"At a time like this, we can't afford to be without him."
"But is there time?" Benimaru asked. "Sending messages still takes-"
"It's fine," Rimuru interrupted. "I have a way."
She turned.
"Shuna."
"I'm here!"
Shuna ran over immediately. In her arms, she held a pigeon.
"That's..." Benimaru paused.
"A familiar Shirou left behind," Rimuru explained, smiling faintly as she took it. "Through this, we can contact him unilaterally."
When Traya had appeared, Rimuru had sensed the danger immediately. She had used thought communication to instruct Shuna to retrieve the familiar as a precaution.
She hadn't expected to actually use it.
But here they were.
Rimuru let the pigeon perch on the back of her hand. She stroked it gently, then infused it with magicules.
The connection formed instantly.
"Shirou," Rimuru said, her voice steady. "Return immediately."
"Charybdis has revived."
"A great calamity, comparable to a Demon Lord."
"It's heading for Emiya City."
"Come back. Now."
