Chapter 344 - Sugar Is a Serious Matter

In the plaza beside the Town Hall, Shirou Emiya and Rimuru formally introduced Milim to the citizens.

What surprised Rimuru was Milim's reputation.

It was unexpectedly good.

The moment the crowd learned that Milim had become Shirou Emiya and Rimuru's little sister, the atmosphere exploded. Cheers rang out, excitement spread instantly, and some even looked ready to start celebrating on the spot.

It was completely beyond Rimuru's expectations.

After the introductions concluded, Shirou Emiya and Rimuru led Milim on a tour of the town.

From the very beginning, Milim ran around nonstop.

She darted from place to place, eyes shining, stopping at every unfamiliar structure. Anything she hadn't seen before immediately caught her attention. She wanted to touch everything, inspect everything, and experience everything.

She looked exactly like a child seeing the world for the first time.

And in truth, that wasn't far from reality.

The city's construction incorporated a large amount of knowledge from other worlds. Compared to the traditional architecture of this world, everything here was novel and unusual. It was only natural that Milim would be so fascinated.

Walking at the rear of the group, Shuna stayed close behind Shirou Emiya.

She glanced at Milim, who was happily running ahead, then leaned in and whispered softly.

"Lord Shirou... could you teach us how to make desserts?"

"Desserts?"

Shirou Emiya immediately felt several gazes turn toward him.

He smiled faintly.

"Shuna likes desserts too?"

"Yes," Shuna replied earnestly. "They're sweet. And delicious."

Earlier, when Shirou Emiya had made a cake, Rimuru had shared the remaining honey. For the ogres, who had never tasted sweets before, that single bite had been shocking.

Even Benimaru, who usually maintained a stoic expression, had clearly wanted more.

Unfortunately, the current honey production was extremely limited. There simply wasn't enough. In the end, each person had only been able to taste a tiny amount.

"But we don't have the necessary ingredients in the forest," Shirou Emiya said calmly. "For example... sugar."

"That's also why I never taught you how to make desserts before."

The honey Rimuru collected could technically replace sugar, but that wasn't the whole story.

The honey extracted from rare flowers had the special property of producing Special Grade All-Purpose Medicine. Its production was extremely low, and Rimuru had no intention of using something like that as food.

As for ordinary honey, the difference in sweetness was worlds apart. It simply couldn't serve as a proper seasoning.

Because of that, sugar became critically important.

"I see... sugar."

Shuna nodded vigorously after hearing the explanation.

Then she turned to Shion with a serious expression.

"Shion, we must find sugar next. Even if it means risking our lives."

"That's right," Shion agreed immediately. "I think so too."

Benimaru, Hakurou, and Souei exchanged glances, then nodded slightly.

They clearly shared the same resolve.

Seeing this, Shirou Emiya rubbed his forehead helplessly.

"It's just dessert. Why are you acting like you're preparing for a life-or-death battle?"

He shook his head, completely speechless.

At that moment, Milim, who had been wandering around in front, suddenly ran back over.

"Then I'm counting on you!"

She grabbed Shuna and Shion's hands, her eyes sparkling with excitement and sincerity.

"Leave it to us, Lord Milim!"

The two responded without hesitation.

...When did the three of you get this close?

Watching them seriously discuss where to begin their search for sugar, Shirou Emiya and Rimuru both sighed at the same time through thought communication.

After finishing the tour, everyone returned to the Town Hall to prepare for dinner.

That evening, Shirou Emiya personally took charge of the cooking.

Once again, Milim experienced the taste of happiness.

Her sense of closeness toward her new, unofficial big brother skyrocketed.

This big brother was simply too amazing.

At the dining table, faced with an entire spread of dishes, everyone ate silently and without pause.

Days when Shirou Emiya personally cooked were rare. Even when he did cook, it was usually only one or two dishes. Never enough to truly feel satisfied.

But today was different.

He was the head chef.

A full table.

In this situation, speaking too much or eating too slowly felt like a loss.

"This is amazing..."

"So satisfying..."

After the meal, Benimaru and the others lay sprawled on the tatami, rubbing their stomachs and sighing in contentment.

Meanwhile, Milim went off with Shuna and Shion to enjoy a hot spring bath.

After a brief rest, Shirou Emiya and Rimuru gathered with Benimaru and the others to discuss future matters.

"The most important thing we need to pay attention to," Kaijin said slowly, "is the movements of the other Demon Lords."

Rimuru blinked.

"What do you mean?"

Before coming to this world, Rimuru had been nothing more than a corporate slave. Large-scale military or political considerations didn't come naturally to her.

"Lord Kaijin means this," Benimaru explained. "Now that Lord Milim has become the younger sister of the two Lords, we're effectively part of her faction."

"That kind of change will definitely draw the attention of the other Demon Lords."

Kaijin nodded.

Before becoming a blacksmith, he had been a commander in the Dwarf Kingdom's army. His experience in such matters far exceeded Rimuru's.

"The Demon Lords are not a single entity," Kaijin continued. "There are several of them. They have friction among themselves, but they also maintain a delicate balance."

"That balance is what has preserved peace until now."

"But with us joining Lord Milim's side, her faction's strength has increased significantly."

"That will inevitably disrupt the balance."

The room grew quiet.

"This is something the other Demon Lords will not tolerate," Kaijin said calmly. "They will certainly make covert moves to pursue their own interests."

"Which means one thing."

He paused.

"This forest will be drawn into conflict sooner or later."

The atmosphere immediately turned heavy.

"But... we can't control Lord Milim's will," Rigurd said after a moment. "Whether she stays here or not isn't up to us."

That was the core problem.

Even Shirou Emiya, the strongest among them, couldn't do anything about Milim once she got serious. He could only defeat her when she deliberately held back.

"So in the end," Rigurd said, "we can only rely on the two Lords."

"That's right."

"We have no other choice."

"Indeed."

Benimaru and the others all turned toward Shirou Emiya and Rimuru.

Rimuru stared at them.

"Hey! You can't just dump everything on us!"

"But we really can't handle something like this."

Seeing Benimaru and the others shrug without hesitation, Rimuru fell silent.

There was nothing she could say.

At that moment, Shirou Emiya spoke calmly.

"Don't worry."

He glanced around the room.

"Demon Lords or not, there's no need to overthink it."

"They don't get to interfere in our territory."
