The companion Dragon God had been dormant for a very long time.
"What old Dragon God? I'm not the Dragon God. It died, and so did I..."
"But senior, you're not dead. I'm still here."
"Hmm."
"When I condensed the dragon core, I already sensed you awakening. Senior, I can tell—you already have the foundation to become the new Dragon God."
"The existence of my power and the Dragon God's power are only one opportunity apart. There's still time."
"A new Dragon God? I can really become one?" Gu You murmured quietly.
"There's no such thing as whether you can or can't. The power is in your hands. If you're willing, you can succeed. Are you ready?"
"What is the opportunity?" Gu You asked slowly, his tone serious.
"I'll explain some things to you first. The opportunity will come, and I'll tell you at the end."
"In the Divine Realm, there is supposed to be equality among gods. But in truth, there are tiers, mainly based on strength. The lowest level is the God Officer or Pontiff. Above that is 3rd Class God, then 2nd Class God, 1st Class God. The pinnacle is the God King, who serves as the enforcer of the Divine Realm. There used to be five God Kings. What I'm telling you is based on the human cultivation path to godhood."
"For beasts, the structure is similar. But beast-kind has only one God King—and that was the Dragon God. In terms of individual combat strength, the Dragon God surpassed any of the five human God Kings. It was only because he stood alone that he couldn't dominate. As to why the Dragon God wielded such power, I can tell you this—it wasn't just the power of Creation and Destruction or the laws of the world. The key was the Power of Order!"
Gu You paused. "The Power of Order? Is that the kind of order we usually talk about?"
"Every world has its own invisible order. The Divine Realm has the order of gods, and the mortal world has the order of mortals. In the mortal realm, the rule is that divine power cannot reside here. For thousands of years, countless Limit Douluo have emerged among humans. But why can't they break through to godhood? It's not because of a lack of talent. It's because no divine position is available to receive them—they're suppressed by the Power of Order. They can't break through that barrier."
"You have to dissect the order of the universe, understand it. Only then can you surpass the limits of the Dragon God. Then, and only then, will you be the strongest—the true Dragon God."
Gu You couldn't quite wrap his head around it. If this order was a kind of force suppression, how was he supposed to comprehend it? Was he supposed to study the very forces that oppressed him?
But suddenly, a bold thought emerged in his mind. Could it be...
"I think I understand. Order may lie within oneself. But I still can't clearly grasp the deeper truth."
"It's enough that you have the intention. When your soul core is formed, you can start thinking more seriously about this path."
"I already have a dragon core. Can I still condense a soul core?"
"Why not? They're not even the same thing. Have you humans trained so long your brains turned to mush?"
"I understand now, senior. Please stop scolding me."
"Hmm. Take care of yourself. I like to sleep, so unless it's urgent, don't call me. Even though my soul is now fully solidified, without a body I won't last much longer. In the future, when you reach that realm, don't forget to revive me."
"I won't forget, senior. The greatest stroke of fortune in my life came from you."
The Purple-Gold Dragon Emperor chuckled softly. "And there's more fortune to come. Once you break the third seal, you'll see."
With those words, the voice vanished.
And just like that, another day passed...
It wasn't until the alarm rang the next morning that Gu You was startled awake.
He entered the Star Battle Pod and linked to the combat network.
With a flash of light, he reappeared at the West Division arena.
He made his way to the other side of the stadium, the mecha battle zone.
"Match time has arrived. Please select mecha type—Melee or Ranged."
"Melee."
"Please select your melee weapon!" The electronic voice rang again, and a panel appeared, listing over a dozen weapons—saber, spear, sword, halberd, axe, club, hook, fork, whip, flail, hammer, claw, mace, meteor hammer. All eighteen traditional weapons were included. It was entirely different from the test phase.
Now that the tournament had officially begun, weapons were actually selectable?
Gu You was pleasantly surprised and immediately chose the spear.
The spear, king of all weapons, represented the sacred path. It bore natural pressure against all others.
With a flash of light, a twelve-meter-tall melee mecha appeared on the battlefield. Gu You sat within its cockpit. A massive fifteen-meter-long spear rested in its hands, radiating imposing might.
Opposite him was a ranged mecha, armed with a soul cannon. That part hadn't changed.
Maybe the officials felt melee mechas were at too much of a disadvantage during testing. That might be why they added custom weapon options.
"Three, two, one—begin!" The electronic voice was as direct as always.
The ranged mecha opened fire immediately, launching three cannon shots in a triangular spread toward Gu You.
Gu You controlled the mecha to grip the spear. In an instant, an endless spear intent surged in his vision. The mecha's long spear flicked out like lightning—three quick thrusts. All three cannon blasts were detonated midair, and the mecha remained perfectly still.
King of weapons—path of the sovereign.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!" Another five blasts surged toward him.
Gu You thrust the spear five more times, dissolving the attack. Still, his mecha remained rooted.
The sensation had arrived—truly. In live combat, even with just the simplest of thrusts, every movement of his spear seemed to trace the sovereign's path. The glow of the spear shimmered, light dancing through the air.
The ranged mecha on the opposite side was confused. Normally, melee fighters would try to close the distance right away, while ranged fighters would retreat. For Gu You to stand still and absorb every shot—that was unheard of.
Yet that was exactly what he was doing.
The ranged mecha couldn't figure out his tactics and could only circle the perimeter, continuing to fire.
In a battle of energy consumption, the ranged mecha had nothing to worry about. If things kept going this way, it was certain the melee mecha would collapse first. Even if each shot was deflected, the shockwaves would still cause wear and tear. If Gu You didn't make a move soon—
