Chapter 283 - Chapter 283: Spirit Sword Mountain Part 9: From Enemies, To Frenemies, To Enemies!

'… AND THEN HE JUST TOOK ALL THE CREDIT, AS IF HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ANYWHERE WITHOUT ME! THAT UNGRATEFUL BOY IS BUT A PALE IMITATION OF MYSELF! WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS?!'

"WHAT AN ASSHOLE!"

'What's wrong with these youngsters? It's like I'm the only sane sword spirit left in this mad world!'

"I hear you man! There are only a handful of em who are even remotely tolerable. Once my spirit is born, I'll show them what a real weapon spirit is supposed to look like, I'll tell you that much."

'Hm? You're expecting?'

"Well, it's only about a decade in the making, so it's still a fair way away, but yeah!"

"Can I see?"

"Sure thing! It's not a sword though!" Nox said as she pulled out her favorite green dagger.

'Hm! It's a bit ruff around the edges, but that's quite a fierce blade. What was this made from? I don't recognize the material?'

"I chipped it from a Tartarus Tarantula fang!"

'A what?'

"A mythical beast from the demon world. This baby was the first legendary weapon I ever made, and though its shoddy craftsmanship lowered its grade, the sentimental value behind it means it's probably going to evolve much earlier than most weapons it's age! Goochie, goochie, goo!" Nox said as she proceeded to dice up her fingers trying to tickle her own dagger.

'What was that about the demon world?'

"Anyways, it's been fun, but I think it's about time to hit the old dusty trail! Which way was the exit again?" Nox asked.

'Oh, well if you-! Hey, wait a minute! I am not aiding a rebel like you! If you wish to leave, then offer up the pebble in your hand!'

"Oh, come on man, or whatever you identify as! I thought we were cool!"

'I admit it is regrettable that one such as yourself has chosen to go down the wrong path, but such is the law! I pray that one day you see the light and accept your destiny! Give up the fated stone, as it was not meant for you, and take your leave!'

"Destiny and fate suck, and you know it! Why are you harping so much on it?"

'Because I am the blade of fate, the sword who guides destined heroes, the first steel to taste the blood of dragons, and the original holy blade! I am, Excalibur, the greatest divine weapon of all!'

"Uh-huh?"

'You do not seem impressed?'

"Yeah sorry, I just, I kind of already figured that one out. Excalibur and Caliburn are in some texts referred to as the same sword, so when you said all that stuff about Caliburn stealing your credit, I just put two and two together."

'Please do not compare me to that ingrate! He was nothing more than one of the many blades on this mountain, an imperfect copy of myself who later gained sentience! My power far exceeds that boy, as I am practically a god forged from steel and divine providence."

"In your heyday, maybe? By the way, isn't this technically more of a tower, or a pillar than a mountain."

'Are you challenging me?'

"Well, I'm just saying most mountains aren't this vertical!"

'No, that was not what I was referring to, but yes, I do see your point. However, it does not qualify as a tower, and "Spirit Sword Pillar" doesn't sound quite as impressive. What I was referring to was that comment you made about my strength. I'll have you know, every weapon on this mountain pillar was created and maintained with my power! That is not something that arrogant boy is capable of!'

"Well, it's not like you made them all at once, and I'm pretty sure the reason he can't is because of a difference in your individual abilities, after all, spirit weapons can vary based on the action it's seen, so he's not an exact copy of you even if his first form was. Also, about the name thing, I feel that calling it a tower would be a better descriptor for it than a mountain."

'From an outside perspective yes, but that might imply there is an interior with stairs or a ladder of some kind for them to climb, and I really do not need people digging into the foundations over nothing. In regard to your other comment, I warn you, do not test my patience! You cannot fathom the power I command! I hold the power to smite thee with a mere thought at any moment if I so choose!'

"Well, that's a lie! If you could do that, you would have done it the moment I refused to give you my rock! And I kind of see your point about the tower thing, but you don't have to limit yourself to 'Spirit Sword Blank' either if it doesn't quite fit, like you could call it, uh, 'Sword Peak Climb', 'Wall of a thousand Blades', or maybe 'Vertical Sword Hill'."

'ENOUGH! I'll take your suggestion to alter the name under consideration, but I will NOT stand for your desecration of destiny! That shard in your grasp was not for you to find! Do you believe by stealing another's fate you will somehow change your own? For that is not how destiny works! If you do not wish for your own salvation, then fine, but you have no right to force others on to the same wicked path.'

"Pft! Hahaha!"

'What do you find humorous about my words?'

"The hypocrisy."

'What hypocrisy?'

"You're sayin it's wrong for me to force my way at someone else's expense when that's literally fate in a nutshell. This rock right here, the one you say I stole, is something I bought legally with my own money, which that guy over there tried to steal because he's a petty bitch who'd rather murder a stranger than let go of a shiny rock he couldn't have! Even if I try doing my own thing, I can't, because you people keep dragging me into your shit anyways."

'Do not dare compare yourself to the will of the heavens! A mere a mortal sinner who cannot comprehend the consequences of your own actions have no right to criticize the plan of the great beyond!'

"No, I understand it perfectly. Its slavery disguised as freedom. Nobody ever asked to-! Hey!"

*Swoosh**Crackle*

All of a sudden, Jai, who had gone silent for most of this conversation, moved with surprising speed, ripping the archaic rock and the hand that held it from Nox's body, before slamming it into the hole at the center of Excalibur's ornate hilt. Then suddenly, the black and gold broadsword lit up in a blinding light that enveloped the entire peak of spirit sword mountain. Once the light disappeared, Jai and the sword embedded atop the platform was nowhere to be seen, but in their place stood a well-built man with fair features sporting chainmail, a red velvet cape, and well-polished ornate silver leggings and gauntlets. His long golden locks floated in the air as if he was underwater, on his head sat a gem encrusted crown with a round circular indentation in the front. As his glowing yellow eyes opened, his whole body radiated with holy light as a smile spread across his lips.

"FINALLY! IT HAS BEEN OVER 3 MILLENNIA SINCE THE WAR OF WORLDS, BUT I AM FINALLY COMPLETE ONCE MORE, AS WAS FORETOLD!"
