Chapter 76 - Lily's Super Evolution

"So you brought her here?" Raven 12345 glanced sideways at the werewolf girl squatting nearby, growling menacingly. "Hey, let me tell you, my furniture is made of superalloy. If her teeth get damaged, I won't be responsible."

Kevin pulled Lily's tail, trying to pull her away from Raven's desk. He explained awkwardly, "When she first arrived, her symptoms weren't this severe. Who knew she'd be unable to speak after being teleported into space... Luckily, she's not biting yet." The group was now, of course, in Raven 12345's office, and Lily's condition seemed even worse than when she'd first woken up that morning. The werewolf girl had completely lost her ability to walk upright. She crouched on all fours beside Raven 12345's desk, head bowed, ignoring everyone. Only bursts of bestial roars could be heard from her. She had begun biting everything within sight, including the tables and chairs in the room and the doorframe she'd just entered. She even bit a passing Arcane Servant, only to be met with a blackened face by the reflected arcane shockwave. Worse still, she could no longer speak.

But Kevin knew Lily was still conscious. She kept chewing on hard objects to distract herself, trying to avoid attacking anyone else. The bite on the Arcane Servant was purely accidental: after all, it looked like a jelly jelly.

Even Vivian, who usually had a terrible time with Lily, looked worried. The vampire girl, after all, was kindhearted. She glanced at Lily with a hint of pity: "How about we find her a steel pipe to chew on first?"

"No, it's not a big deal," Raven 12345 waved Kevin away. Then, crouching in front of Lily, he twisted her head and forced her to look up. "Little wolf girl, look into my eyes."

Oddly enough, Lily, who had been nearly unable to think normally except on instinct, suddenly calmed down after hearing Raven's words. Her breathing gradually evened out, and she stared intently at Raven 12345's face, mumbling, "Doctor...?"

"Yes, I'm a doctor now. Look into my eyes. Tell me, what do you see?" Raven 12345 said kindly, her tone so gentle that Kevin wanted to bang his head against the wall: Why can't this psychopathic goddess just talk properly like she does now?! A glimmer of clarity flashed in Lily's eyes. She studied him for a long moment before nodding, "There's a small piece of instant noodles in the corner of your mouth..."

Raven 12345 slapped Lily on the forehead: "I told you to look at my eyes, not my mouth, you idiot!"

Kevin felt relieved upon hearing this: "Great! It's the same psychopath she always is. Her words are just the right amount of subtlety."

Yzaks, who had been waiting respectfully with his head bowed, couldn't help but touch Kevin's arm. "Is the governing god of your world... usually like this?"

"Yeah, isn't it different in other worlds?" Kevin remarked casually. "Nonsense," Y'zaks muttered quietly. "Seventy percent of the Xiling pantheon have expressionless faces... How did you end up with someone like that?"

Kevin: "..."

At this moment, Raven 12345 was still trying to awaken something within Lily. She held Lily's head, her eyes flickering with a blue-white light. Her voice was gentle and low, as if imbued with some kind of magic: "Don't worry about what you see. It's all an illusion. You're in a very safe place now. Okay, little girl, tell me, what did you see?"

"...The moon. A big, round moon..." Lily remained crouched, but her muscles were slowly relaxing. "It was red, and there was something like seawater churning in it... There really is noodles at the corner of your mouth."

"...Seriously! Focus on my eyes!" Raven 12345 wiped the corner of her mouth vigorously. "Besides the moon? Thinking back to what happened that night, besides what you saw with your eyes, what else comes to mind?" "There are people on the moon... I can't see them, but I know there are many. They're melting, becoming part of the ocean... There are people on the ground too. Everyone is melting. I'm scared... I want to become stronger so I won't melt. And then... you didn't wipe it clean, there's still some at the corner of your mouth."

Raven 12345 smiled faintly: "...Girl, show your weapons! I'm determined to fight you to the death."

Kevin quickly stepped forward to smooth things over. He didn't know why something so theoretically serious had to end like this, but he knew his job was to smooth things over. "Alright, alright, she's usually a little dazed, speaking without thinking, especially now that she's using her brain stem to think. So, what's going on with Lily?" "Your vampire is quite a reputable one," Raven 12345 stood up and gave Vivian a deep look. "She's incredibly powerful, but I'm afraid she doesn't know how to control it yet. The wolf cub isn't in any trouble; it's simply been invaded by visions of disaster into her subconscious. She hasn't noticed it herself, but every time she sleeps, she's triggered by nightmares, gradually losing control of her powers. That's why her condition deteriorates so much overnight: the nightmares are terrifying."

Raven 12345 leaned down and patted Lily's head. "Actually, I have some good news to share..."

Raven 12345 had barely finished speaking when Kevin casually chimed in, "Is the girl pregnant?"

The room suddenly fell silent, the only sound being the creaking of Lily gnawing on the table. Vivian gave Kevin a strange look. "Landlord, what are you thinking?"

Kevin fumbled to explain, "No, that's how it's always played out on TV. The twist is always 'the girl's pregnant'..." Raven 12345 flicked a small electric ball at Kevin's forehead. "You'll definitely thrive in Shadow City with your brains. There's a wide variety of creatures there, and you'll definitely find your kind. But I'm telling you, this little wolf is about to evolve."

Lily, who was gnawing furiously on the table leg, suddenly paused, her ears perked up, waiting for the next word: She wasn't completely lost yet. "Evolution?" Kevin found this unfolding process fascinating. "She's actually a Digimon?"

"...I'll treat you after this little wolf cub heals. Any longer and it'll be too late," Raven 12345 sighed, shaking his head. "Don't you realize this little girl isn't even an adult yet?"

"She's an adult," Vivian was the first to speak up. "Look at her. How does she look underage?"

"It's just a thing," Raven 12345 pouted. "Maybe she's an adult physically, but as a werewolf, her abilities are clearly lacking. I heard Kevin say that Lily doesn't really have any special abilities besides her strength, right?"

"And she has a sharp nose," Kevin added quickly. "And she can grow a tail."

"That's not a special ability!" Raven 12345 waved his hand, summoning an arcane servant. Then he pointed at Kevin. "Come on, feed this young man some medicine! Just keep him quiet!"

Kevin fell silent, and Vivian nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, I've always been curious about that. While normal werewolves aren't particularly skilled in magic, at least they have some innate abilities, like active berserk, shadowstep, and moonlight concealment. But this big dog seems to possess nothing but incredible strength and unprecedented health. She's still thinking her five years of brick-smashing skills are a killer move. But there's this concept of werewolves 'evolving'? The werewolves I know naturally acquire these abilities after reaching a certain age, but it seems like Big Dog is about to experience explosive growth."

"Who told you all to be so abnormal?" Raven 12345 said, seemingly with a hint of meaning. "Normal werewolves develop gradually, but this little girl, stimulated by your moonlight, is about to hyper-evolve. Ha, that's a good thing, though. A quick pain is worse than a long one. Kevin, you'll save yourself five years of cleaning up furniture Lily chewed up every day. When a werewolf awakens a new ability, it undergoes this kind of regression; the normal growth period is a full five years!" Kevin wiped the sweat from his forehead. He didn't care about anything else. He was relieved to know that this was just a normal physiological process (slightly out of control).

The next thing to consider was how to get this idiot safely through the evolution period.
