Chapter 68 - A New Life

This dreadful mission was exhausting, both physically and mentally. Kevin, after more than twenty years as an ordinary citizen, clearly hadn't quite adjusted to the high-powered life of a behind-the-scenes hero—even though he wasn't even a backroom soldier yet.

Contacting Raven 12345 went smoothly. The psychopathic goddess was tidying up her garden, having some free time. Kevin saw Raven 12345 on the holographic projection, still carrying that massive machete, looking like a tough girl just back from a comic convention.

Kevin, with a weary expression, recounted his experiences over the past two days, concluding with a hint of anticipation: "It went smoothly. Do you think my performance was okay?"

Raven 12345 nodded: "Yeah, it was pretty good."

Kevin: "..."

It seemed he shouldn't have expected a kind word from this unreliable guy from the beginning. "What? You still want me to give you a first-class merit?" Raven 12345 could easily see the embarrassment on Kevin's face. She smiled mischievously, "Do you think traveling halfway around the world to pick up a harmless new tenant is a difficult task?"

"I think it was quite difficult. You have to consider my situation," Kevin muttered. "I even fought hundreds of undead and encountered a silly, half-baked witcher. That was thrilling enough for me." Raven 12345 pondered for a moment, then surprisingly nodded slightly. "Well, that can barely be considered exceptional. According to the manual, your physical enhancements are still in their infancy, with a combat power barely over 5. You didn't flinch despite your limited combat power, which is quite unexpected. I'll give you a reward when you get back... barely enough to give you some military merit. Although you're performing a civilian mission, the Space-Time Administration's military merit system also includes this kind of civilian mission."

Kevin was immediately intrigued and wanted to ask about the military merit. However, Raven 12345 didn't seem interested in explaining that, so Kevin could only ask about something else: "I've already picked up Y'zaks. How do I get him back? I just realized you paid for the travel expenses... but you didn't complete the UK immigration procedures for Y'zaks! He's still holding the documents he needed for the scheduled landing point, and he's holding a Chinese ID card..." Raven 12345 suddenly slapped his head. "Hey, I was wondering why something felt missing! I've only been processing paperwork for the three of you!"

Kevin immediately realized that not having high hopes for Raven 12345 from the beginning had been the right decision. "Wait a minute, Y'zaks's immigration formalities, right?" Raven 12345 didn't look embarrassed at all. "Ordinarily, these things should be handled by my agents at all levels, but this time, I'll do it for you personally. Wait a minute, I'll start the paperwork... 1, 2, 3, um, done."

Kevin was about to turn off his data terminal when he heard Raven had just started the paperwork. He figured it would take at least a day or two for the results, but he didn't expect the other party to complete everything while he was distracted. Raven 12345 cheerfully asked Kevin to hold out his hand: "Open your hand. Yes, hold it tight. Let's go!"

Kevin felt his hand sink, and when he realized it, a large file bag was already in his hand. "Holy crap, that speed..." Kevin stared in amazement at the complete package completed in just three seconds, sweat dripping down his forehead. "I haven't seen any other tricks yet, but how can this be so powerful! Instant verification plus super-time delivery to your door..."

Raven 12345 heard Kevin mumbling and immediately asked curiously, "What did you say?"

"Uh, it's okay. I was saying you were pretty fast, haha, pretty fast..."

"Nonsense, I'm still called a goddess after all. Okay, now that the paperwork is complete, don't stay out there too long. Come back quickly. You're making quite a bit of noise. Staying too long might cause trouble."

With this final word, whether it counted as a gesture of concern or not, Raven 12345 unilaterally hung up. The rest of the journey was smooth sailing. Kevin and his friends had originally planned to rest in London for a day or two, at least to recover from the exhaustion from the intense night. But now even someone as unreliable as Raven 12345 had proactively warned them to return home to avoid further trouble, and had even arranged flight tickets for them departing the next day. Naturally, they hurried back home.

Setting foot on familiar ground once again, Kevin took a deep breath of the stale air of the southern suburbs. His experiences in a foreign land faded like a dream, his only constant reminder of the reality of everything being real, the two-meter-tall, burly figure standing beside him. Kevin suddenly remembered the half-baked demon hunter he'd met and said goodbye to so hastily. Perhaps because of his unique identity and their past battles together (after all, they were connected), Kevin had a deep impression of Nangong. Although he was a bit of a clown and a middleman with limited success, his reckless fighting spirit was quite impressive. It was a pity that Kevin didn't say goodbye to him before leaving. In fact, Vivian didn't want to have anything to do with Nangong anymore, after all, he was just a demon hunter.

The question of whether there was actually a demon hunter behind Nangong, and whether he would become a potential threat, was a slightly unsettling one. Of course, Nangong had been successfully fooled by Kevin before, and hadn't doubted their identities. Furthermore, a meteorite falling from the sky had prevented Nangong from further investigating. But Kevin had a strong feeling that the other party was so easily fooled because he had hit them so hard with the brick. Who knew that Nangong would start to think about what happened that day when his head stopped dizzying...

But never mind. If the sky falls, there's someone taller to hold it up, and there's always someone two meters tall standing nearby. After figuring everything out, Kevin felt refreshed. Just then, the familiar large house appeared before his eyes, and his spirits immediately perked up. He patted Y'zaks' elbow and introduced the great demon to his future new home: "Look, that's where I'm going to live!"

Y'zaks's face was expressionless, neither displeased nor overjoyed. He simply nodded calmly: "Oh, quiet, just quiet is enough. I can live a peaceful life from now on."

Kevin glanced at Y'zaks curiously: "Big guy, are you worried about something? Why do you seem so uninterested the whole time? Sometimes you talk a lot, and sometimes you don't say a word at all."

Y'zaks smiled kindly, but even with all the expression, his face still looked terrifying. "It's nothing. I've lived a long life, and I always have troubles, but it's all over now. Now I've fought enough battles and felt enough worry. I just want to find a quiet place where no one can disturb me. The Space-Time Administration promised to arrange a place like this for me, and I can live there until I want to... Is that okay with you?" Kevin thought to himself: How rude of the Time and Space Administration to have so arbitrarily sold my life. But remembering that he had indeed signed a contract, he kept a nonchalant expression on his face: "Whatever! I'm just renting the place, so whoever lives here doesn't matter."

Which was true, but there was a missing part: he hadn't imagined his tenants would turn out to be a bunch of non-humans!

The house was still the same as when he'd left, though it hadn't been cleaned in a few days, leaving dust everywhere. Fortunately, the main furniture and appliances had been covered in advance by the meticulous and diligent Vivian with a pile of tarps she'd dug out from the basement, making tidying up easy. Watching the vampire happily running around the house, fetching water, mopping the floor, and tidying up, Y'zaks's expression finally turned a bit strange: "Is that what she...usually does?"

The great demon had mistakenly assumed that living here meant working. "Vivian's situation is special," Kevin explained with a dry laugh. "She can't pay the rent, so she's volunteering... But everything's entirely voluntary. Raven 12345 said you can get your expenses reimbursed from her anyway."

Yazakhs blinked. "Looks like I still have a lot to learn..."

Kevin continued his dry laugh, a single thought in his mind: You still have a lot to learn. "Go!" is about to hear the noise and go home. Then Yazakhs will have to struggle to understand why a cat is second in command...
