Chapter 74 - 74 - Suguru Geto’s fate!

Kenshin was already on his way to the location of Suguru Geto's temple where he purifies the bad spirits of whoever approaches him.

Suddenly, the alarms he set on his house went off, constantly ringing in his head.

Without hesitation, Kenshin changed directions, activating his teleportation spell and arriving in front of his doorstep in an instant.

What met him was the sole figure of Ophis with her hands raised, face indifferent, and several Cursed Spirits whose bodies are thrice or even tenfold over her own size.

And yet, with just a simple flick of her wrist, the humongous spirits were instantly evaporated into nothingness, as if they didn't exist in the first place.

Kenshin stood shell-shocked, should he be glad now that he took her in?

"You're late." Ophis looked at him with dead-fish eyes and muttered.

Kenshin chuckled, "I believe I was fast enough. Just didn't expect you'd handle things yourself." he then walked forward, inspecting the lingering cursed energy around the place before it disappeared.

Normally, there's nothing unique about cursed energies but with his nuclear reactor's ability, he was able to determine that each person in the world has unique signatures once a certain energy touches their soul.

It's a complicated matter but you can just consider it like how every person in the world has unique fingerprints.

"Onii-chan!" Rushing out of the bushes, Tomoko launched herself forward to Kenshin, looking for a hug.

Kenshin, who would normally either dodge or push her out of the way, was too worried and simply engulfed her in a hug.

Tomoko, who was expecting to be pushed or land on the ground, was surprised that her brother would actually accept a hug from her!

W-Who is this person I'm hugging right now!? Is this still my brother?! Bells rang in Tomoko's head as the worst possible scenario was playing on her mind.

"Ara~ you're back home already?" His mother, Tomo, exiting through the front door, covered her lower face as she giggled after seeing the siblings hugging each other.

It seems like she was oblivious to what just happened outside her house. Earlier, she was confused as to why Ophis calmly walked out of the door with Tomoko rushing behind her.

It seems like they know Ken-chan is going home and they're just too excited, she assumed in her mind.

She then continued, "You're just in time, get inside, it's time to eat."

Kenshin, now that he's home and it would be unfilial for him to refuse and go back out again, he nodded his head and went inside—followed by Ophis and Tomoko who were of the same height.

———

Unfortunately, Kuroki Kiko, their father, was already off to work, so only four of them were left to eat at the table.

Of course, with mommy Kuroki launching a barrage of questions to Ophis, who stayed silent and Kenshin answering instead.

"Gasp! What do you mean she doesn't have any parents?!" Tomo gasped.

Kenshin coughed and cleared his throat, further deepening the backstory he made up for Ophis, "They died in a car crash years ago. She's one of the reasons why I'm always outside, I've actually been taking care of her, educating her myself, and feeding her."

[Passive Ability: Acting (Max)]

With a soul-crushing tone, Kenshin continued to narrate the story, weaving her backstory as if it were the most tragic backstory of all time.

Even Tomoko, who knew the truth, couldn't help but be affected by how Kenshin tells the story and the way his face changes when the plot of the story was about to intensify.

Kenshin even added in a few of his favourites such as how Ophis used to be such a bright child only to be snuffed during her time in the orphanage.

In the end, used tissues were piled up on the table as Tomo sniffed, "T-That's it! I've had enough of how cruelly she was treated by society! Ken-chan, Tomo-chan, you two will be having a new sister from now on! I'm adopting Ophis-chan!"

After declaring that, Tomo rushed to the oblivious Ophis's side and rubbed her cheeks with hers.

Ophis, lacking the ability to show emotion, simply ate her chocolate with vigor, ignoring the pitiful looks that her new mother was giving her.

In Tomo's mind, Ophis's harsh experience since childhood gave birth to her indifference to her surroundings and the lack of emotions on her face.

I can fix her! She resolutely made up her mind.

"You should stay with us, Ophis! Don't worry, I'll handle all the paperwork!"

Hearing those words, Kenshin immediately interrupted her. If she discovers that Ophis isn't actually listed in the Japanese government database and she's an absolute ghost, she might get suspicious.

"Actually, Mom. Let me handle it. I know where her Children's Homes are. I'll just give you the papers that need signing then everything will be solved."

This, of course, is a lie. There's no such thing as a Children's Home that has a child named Ophis nor will Kenshin bother putting her there for the sake of adoption.

He's just going to fake everything out. Call his connection with the Yakuza boss and have her listed as a Japanese Citizen and put her new name as Kuroki Ophis.

Speaking of the Yakuza Boss, his influence is now stronger than before. With the help of Kenshin, he was able to absorb the other Yakuza forces and expand his business and power.

Of course, Kenshin made sure to remove anything related to child-trafficking or the overall trafficking and anything that involves hurting innocent people.

Since he can do something about it, he might as well do it.

So he only allowed his businesses to range from selling drugs to arms trafficking.

With the latter being more controlled than the rest. He doesn't want it to end up to people who would use it against innocent bystanders.

School shootings may not exist in Japan but the possibility is still there even if it's in a decimal percentage.

"Are you sure, Ken-chan? Wouldn't it be a trouble for you?" Concern flashed in Tomo's face, her next words however, felt like a stab to his heart, "After all, you're always outside, you must be very busy…"

Especially since two days ago, he brought them on an expensive vacation on the beach. She must've thought that Kenshin was doing part-time jobs or something.

To be honest, Kenshin wanted a job. Not for the money but as an excuse to his parents and also to experience what it's like to have a job again.

Before his eventual reincarnation in the world of Fantazio, he was in the military, served his country for 15 years before landing a job as a security guard in a law firm.

"I…" Kenshin's lips quivered. He doesn't know what to say.

Ever since coming to this world, he swore to live his life to the fullest, experience a woman's touch, and lose his virginity once and for all.

He finally achieved all of it. And yet despite it, he grew addicted and accidentally forgot where he came from.

From a family. Yes, they're not his real parents but they're his parents in this life. He has the responsibility to spend some of his time with them.

And now, his mother's words, about him always being outside and being busy, stabbed his heart in various angles.

He was too busy with his goals and playing with the supernaturals in this world.

Look at what happened yesterday. Their stay was supposed to last for a week, enjoy a family bonding once in a while but then, what happened?

Because of his involvement in the Jujutsu Kaisen cast, the vacation was ruined and the bonding was broken in pieces.

So much for staying low-key and living this life to the fullest.

Tomo, confused why Kenshin was frozen, called out to him, "Ken-chan? Is everything all right?"

Those words snapped him back to reality and he managed to wipe his eyes just before the tears could fully form and drip, "Yeah, I'm okay. I just…want to spend more time with you guys from now on. How about a trip to Mt. Fuji tomorrow?"

Tomo tilted her head, "Hmm, I don't know. I'll ask your dad if he can ask for another leave tomorrow."

Oh he will, alright, Kenshin mentally snorted. If the company where his father works fires him, then expect his Yakuza force to come knocking on his boss's door.

With his new influence through the Yakuza, not even the other countries such as America or China would dare mess with him.

Chinese Triad? Mafias?

Unlike the new Yakuza force that he controls, those two above aren't as big or influential due to a lack of unity.

Meanwhile, his Yakuza force was able to absorb other yakuza families.

"I'm sure his boss won't mind. Anyways, I'll bring Ophis to her orphanage in the meantime, wait for the good news." Kenshin said while grabbing Ophis's hand and lifting her until she sat on his broad shoulders.

Tomo hesitantly nodded her head, she felt like something was wrong and she should be the one to handle it all but for some reason, she felt like she could rely on Kenshin on this matter.

Only then did Kenshin leave with Ophis.

———

"Where are we going?" Ophis asked while licking the ice cream that Kenshin bought for her.

Kenshin replied to her, his calm face masking the anger within, "We're going to storm Suguru Geto. I'll make sure he remembers who not to mess with in the afterlife."

"Suguru Geto?" Ophis stopped licking her ice cream and cutely tilted her head in confusion, wondering whose name it belonged to.

Kenshin took his time to explain, "Those Cursed Spirits you killed earlier? It belongs to him. He's been pestering me for weeks now, at first I thought I piqued his interest but now, I don't think he's interested in me, he just wants to mess with me."

Ophis, despite lacking emotional qualities, was able to sense the surging rage inside Kenshin and for some reason, this also affected her.

The idea of someone disturbing your peace reminds her of how Great Red killed her peace, making noise and doing somersault dives on Dimensional Gap, anything just to annoy her.

Ophis finished her ice cream cone before grabbing a handful of Kenshin's hair and muttering, "Let's kill him."

Kenshin smirked. A sense of pride filled him in the chest.

It's like the feeling of when you see your daughter inheriting the best traits that you have.

Or in his case, his little sister. That's right, he already sees her as his little sister like Tomoko at this point.

———

In a wide spacious room, Suguru Geto paced around the room, biting on his nails in both curiosity and slight fear, "They were killed? That fast? Did I misunderstand something? A hidden sorcerer family perhaps? Or maybe he's not the only Jujutsu Sorcerer in the family…"

The pair of siblings, Mimiko and Nanako Hasaba, who he saved from their cruel reality years ago, watched their father figure pacing around the room.

"What's going on with Geto-sama?" Mimiko curiously asked.

The other shrugged silently.

For some reason, seeing their benefactor pacing around made them feel a bit nervous.

They're not sure yet but they feel like something bad is about to happen.

If only they knew how right they are.
