Chapter 68 - 68 - The Himejima Clan!

The next day came and this time, Kenshin woke up with Tomoko jumping on his bed, excitedly begging him.

"Teach me magic already! Like X-Ray magic or a magic spell that could undress someone with a glance!"

Yeah, she won't be learning magic spells anytime soon.

Pushing her out of his bed, Kenshin scolded her, "No. I'll teach you when I deem you ready. If you want to have flashy powers, then do your best to awaken your Sacred Gear."

Who in their right mind would want to learn such perverted spells?

Even if he has such spells, he wouldn't dare teach them to anyone. He would rather alter his memories to forget about the spells.

"Oh come on!! I-I'll become your personal maid for a day!"

"No." Kenshin's response was resolute.

Tomoko meekly upped the condition, "A week?"

Unfortunately for her, Kenshin stood like an impenetrable wall, "No."

"A month?"

Kenshin crossed his arms and stood his ground, "No. Not even a year or your entire lifetime. I'll teach you what I want to teach you and when."

"Nooo! My harem dream has ended!" Tomoko fell to her knees in defeat and kept pounding on the ground.

Kenshin simply watched her with sheer indifference and a lack of emotion.

It seems like I have to change her ways first. I can't have myself a perverted student, Kenshin rubbed his chin while analyzing the fallen Tomoko.

"I'm leaving now. In the meantime, focus on connecting with Ddraig. He's your only chance to see if you're worthy as my student." In the end, Kenshin doesn't have anything to do with her on his mind yet, so he'll throw the responsibility to the red dragon first.

A hopeful look reignited in her face, "D-Does that mean you'll teach me X-ray magic!?"

"No." Only for Kenshin to shut her down instantly.

"Gugggh~!"

Kenshin left her at that, ignoring her silent cries of 'Onii-chan is so unfair', 'Onii-chan doesn't love me anymore', and such.

———

Kenshin muttered to himself. Today is the day he'll start his mission, "Himejima Clan…"

He plans to get in contact with any of the Himejima Clan members and fortunately, he remembered Sawako mentioning a clan member who used to bless their house a few years back.

"Shuri Himejima. Currently lives at a Shinto Shrine not far away from their home…"

With that information in hand, Kenshin took off in the air, made himself invisible, and teleported to Kyoto.

Once he's there, he spreads his senses around and starts looking for shrines near Sawako's modest home.

He detected three shrines with the farthest being more secluded and containing three presences.

Kenshin couldn't tell the appearances of those three but he'll start from the nearest shrine first.

———

"Hmm~ Hm~ Hmmm~"

Inside a small shrine surrounded by trees and tall grasses, a modest woman wearing a soft expression was sweeping the floor, a satisfied and relaxed smile plastered on her face, her humming matching the rhythm of her sweeping.

"Mom! Mom! Daddy doesn't want me to play!" Rushing out of the house was her daughter, Akeno, a small 5-year-old half-human and half-fallen angel with dark black hair and purple eyes.

The mother stopped sweeping the floor and turned her back to look at the running child. A soft smile appeared on her face as she touched her cheeks.

"Ara~ Akeno-chan is so energetic in the morning~"

She crouched and received Akeno with a hug, flinging her upwards until she sat in her arms.

"Daddy doesn't want to play!" Akeno pouted and pointed at the entrance of the small wooden house where she came out of earlier..

In front of the door stood a broad-shouldered man with large eye bags under his eyes and a bunch back as if the sleep didn't take away his exhaustion.

What's unusual about the man was how he caresses his behind, for every time he touches a certain spot, he hissed in pain.

Akeno caught this on and with sheer innocence filling her, she mistook his actions as pretending, "Look, mommy! He's acting like he can't play with me!"

"Shuri…" The father spoke, his eyes full of helplessness as he stared at his wife.

The mother, now known as Shuri, covered her mouth as she chuckled. A glint of playfulness flashed in her eyes.

She slowly brought Akeno back down on the ground where she immediately bolted back towards her father, energetically jumping towards him.

"Daddy let's play hide and seek!" Her voice echoed in the air as her figure flew towards her father.

"A-Akeno no!" The man panicked however, it was already too late as Akeno heavily slammed against his chest, causing them to fall on the ground with his behind colliding with the floor.

"A-AHUEWIII!!" The man screamed in pain as his behind took the heavy fall.

Shuri found it funny at first but eventually, she felt bad for her husband.

"Akeno, how about I play with you instead, yes?" Shuri approached the father and daughter duo and picked up Akeno.

"Yeyyy!" Akeno jumped from her father's chest and landed back in Shuri's arms.

On the other hand, the father silently cried, sobbing as the pain in his behind was still lingering.

Shuri cast him an apologetic look before dragging Akeno away from thr crime scene.

"I want to play hide and seek!" Akeno excitedly yelled, her innocent mind already recalling her previous hiding locations and possible hiding spots.

"Su—" Before Shuri could agree, they were suddenly interrupted by an unknown voice.

"Excuse me…"

Shuri calmly looked at the entrance of the shrine and saw a young man bearing a smile on his face.

"Hello, mister!" Akeno cutely tilted her head and waved her tiny hands at the stranger.

The stranger reciprocated by waving his hand also.

Bringing Akeno back down on the ground, Shuri approached the man, "Can I help you?"

In her mind, she can already guess that the man must've visited the shrine either to pay respects to the Shinto Gods or to hire her for an exorcism and blessing his home.

Although rarely people know about her identity as a member of the Himejima Clan that specializes in exercising bad spirits and such but it's not entirely private either.

"Are you Shuri Himejima?" Asked the young man.

Before Shuri could answer, her husband, now fully recovered and putting on a tough front, stepped forward with his arms crossed—a frown on his face, "What's it to you, boy?"

"Dea—Baraqiel!" Shuri almost misspoke, calling her husband in front of a stranger whom for all she knew, was a spy sent by her family.

The man, now known as Baraqiel, understood Shuri's intentions which only seemed to fuel his brave front.

"What's your purpose being here, boy? If you want to pay respect to the Shinto Gods, then go ahead and do it, no need to trouble the woman."

Shuri sighed in defeat, she wanted to just grab the whip from her room and punish the man in front of her however, she couldn't afford to do it now, especially in front of a stranger.

Truth is, the moment the young man stepped inside the Shrine grounds, Baraqiel's instincts were telling him that this boy isn't normal and something about him feels a bit off.

The young man however, calmly smiled despite Baraqiel trying to intimidate him.

"Don't worry, I'm just here as part of the Inu clan of the Kyoto Yokai faction." The young man's words made Baraqiel and Shuri's eyes widen in surprise.

At the same time as he finished his words, two pairs of fluffy ears appeared on top of his head and a dog's tail behind him. A huge amount of Ki flared around him.

———

When Kenshin found out the identity of the woman named Shuri Himejima in the Shrine, he was surprised to find out she was the heir of the Himejima clan, one of the major clans of the Five Principal Clans.

However, he was even more shocked to find out the man alongside her.

Kenshin could sense a weird yet familiar energy radiating from the man whom Shuri calls Baraqiel. The said energy is similar to his Holy energy that he uses when purifying evil spirits and demons.

These two aren't normal. Is he an angel? But I heard they rarely come down from heaven and even if they do, they only descend on their churches, not a shrine of a different religion, analyzed Kenshin, sensing something weird going on between the two.

Eventually, when he revealed who he was, pretending to be part of the Inu clan from the Kyoto Yokai Facion, they suddenly went into alert mode.

As for the identity he took. The Inu clan is one of the largest clans that belongs to the loyalist clan alongside the Neko clan.

So introducing himself as part of the Inu clan and attempting an assassination attempt against the princess of the Himejima clan, the blame would instantly fall on the Inu clan or more specifically, the loyalist clans.

Kenshin even went as far as to use a master-level illusion to make himself look like a part of the Inu clan.

And to top it all, his face also belongs to one of the members of the Inu clan, a nobody that Kenshin discreetly took care of.

Guilt? Not exactly. The said nobody is also one of the Inu clan members who advocate for Yasaka to be thrown out of her throne.

As much as Kenshin hates what he's doing, for the sake of Yasaka as his lover, he's willing to do something as trivial as this.

It's just that he didn't expect a variable named Baraqiel to make things harder for him.

"Shuri get Akeno out of here!" Baraqiel flew in front of the princess just in time as Kenshin slashed the space in front of him with his claws coated with Ki, a technique he learned by himself courtesy of the Neko and Inu fighting style.

To his surprise, the tanned-skinned man with eyes that look like they're closed, suddenly unfurled 5 pairs of dark wings from behind.

At the same time, arcs of lightning appeared around him that coalesced into a single form of spear.

Kenshin's eyes widened in surprise as the spear suddenly found itself in front of him, the sparkling arcs stretching out of the spear's body coming in contact with his clothes and burning them crisp.

He couldn't even react nor did he see the man throw the spear towards him. In just a blink of an eye, the lightning spear was already threatening to pierce his chest!

Oh fuck!

Thankfully, his high mind stats and agility became his saviour. He was able to instinctively side-step just in time as the tip of the spear penetrated a few inches of his skin.

Boom!

The lightning spear continued its way through the air until it collided with the shrine gate behind him, collapsing it from a large explosion.

Kenshin didn't bother to look behind him, more like he couldn't bother to look at another spear coalesced on Baraqiel's hand.

"I suggest you leave, boy. I don't want to kill a Yokai in front of my wife."

"Wife? I see…A Princess of the Himejima clan and a Fallen Angel are betrothed, what a fascinating discovery. I wonder what her parents would see this as?" A smirk found its way on Kenshin's face as Baraqiel gritted his teeth, his tongue slipped and now he can't let the boy in front of him escape to expose his wife.

For Baraqiel, he can afford the backlash of marrying a Himejima clan princess. He's a Fallen Angel and the Vice Leader of Grigori, his reputation is already low and tainted in the eyes of others.

But his wife, Shuri, and their daughter, Akeno, still have their life in front of them, ruining them because of him would bring him hundreds of years of regret and guilt.

"I change my mind, stay where you are, boy."

For some reason, I kinda like the feeling of being the villain for once, Kenshin murmured to himself. A sense of pleasure filled and swirled inside him.

Though he can't call himself one as he doesn't intend to kill Shuri or anyone, he's just there to send the message and become the spark of the inevitable war between Kyoto Yokais and the Five Principal Clans.

[You guys seemed to make a confusion. No Shuri being part of harem is going to happen lols. This would just serve as his first interaction with one of the main protagonists in the DxD verse, apologies to those who were expecting something.]
