Everything sucks.
He hated how everything made him feel. Why couldn't he just be chosen at least once? Maybe it was his insecurity or the fact that he had always been in the shadows in his family, he had no idea, but Veyr had always known that no one would see him as enough.
Not even Ryn.
Veyr had felt it when it happened. When the aethermark on his hand lit up with neon light, he had felt everything, and he hated how it made him feel.
How could he have even thought that Ryn would ever think about picking him when he was just in the shadows?
When the three marks on his arm changed and two got connected, he felt his chest tighten, and he could barely sleep because that night, he had been called home, scolded by his father and brother for being incompetent as usual.
