Episode 21: Bloodline Echoes

---

Jax carried Alira through the burning corridor, each step echoing with ash and memory.

She was lighter than he remembered. Or maybe he was just heavier—with guilt, with knowing.

The Omega glyph across his spine still pulsed faintly, but Alira's was silent now. Still.

He glanced down. Her eyes were open—but distant, like she was listening to a song only she could hear.

> "Alira, stay with me—don't you dare drift," he growled, voice breaking.

She blinked once.

> "You remember… don't you?"

Jax slowed.

> "More than I wanted. Less than I need."

They reached the broken archway of what used to be the Archive Vault. The air was thick with code-smoke and static.

Alira winced, pushing against his arms.

> "Put me down… the Vault responds to bloodline echoes. It needs both of us."

> "What are you talking about?"

She looked up at him. Her pupils shimmered with fractured code.

> "They didn't just test us, Jax. They created us. You and I—we were the Alpha Link. Two halves of the same key."

He flinched.

> "No. That can't be. I bled. I broke. I chose my path—"

> "And so did I. But our paths were designed long before choice was an option."

A pulse rippled from the cracked terminal. The Vault responded to her voice.

> "Authorization: Dual Echo. Subject tags JX-09 and AL-13. Unlock sequence initiated."

Metal groaned, ancient and alive.

The floor split open, revealing a spiraling descent of obsidian stairs, flickering with forgotten sigils.

> "Welcome, Omega Heirs," a voice hummed from below.

Jax froze.

> "Heirs?"

> "You never wondered why you survived every purge? Every injection? Every experiment?" Alira asked. "We weren't just survivors, Jax. We were blueprints."

A shadow stirred at the base of the vault steps.

Boots. A long coat. And eyes like his.

But older. Colder.

> "Hello, son."

Jax's breath caught fire in his throat.

> "You're supposed to be dead."

> "They needed a prototype before they perfected you. I was their first draft."

Alira stepped back. Her body trembled.

> "Lucien…" she whispered. "The Ghost of Project Halo."

Lucien's smile didn't reach his eyes.

> "I'm not a ghost. I'm the future. You're just… obsolete echoes."

Jax stepped forward, fists crackling with energy.

> "You're not my father. You're just another monster they made."

Lucien tilted his head.

> "And yet, your rage? That's mine. Your power? Mine. Even your love for her?" He glanced at Alira. "I remember feeling it. Before they broke me."

Alira gasped.

> "You… felt?"

Lucien's face twitched. Just once.

> "And then I stopped. Because feelings are chains. And you—both of you—you are still shackled."

He raised his hand. The vault trembled.

Behind him, a chamber opened—revealing thousands of pods. Children. Clones. Prototypes.

> "I didn't come to kill you, Jax. I came to offer you a throne."

> "No," Jax snarled. "I came to end a cycle. Not become its next tyrant."

Lucien smiled.

> "Then bleed for your rebellion, boy."
