"Are you serious, Mr. Koga?!"
Red turned to look at Koga, who was filled with fighting spirit, and subconsciously reached for the Poké Ball at his waist. He paused, realizing the familiar spot no longer held Beedrill, but a new companion.
"It seems you need to switch Pokémon. The Fuchsia Gym has just installed equipment that allows for remote Pokémon transfers," Koga said.
Following Koga's guidance, Red arrived in front of a video phone booth with a transfer machine installed next to it.
"Hello, hello? Oh, it's Red!" Professor Oak's head appeared on the call screen, his surprised face taking up the entire display.
Red first made a shushing gesture, silently telling the Professor not to reveal any information about Zapdos. Red currently didn't want others to know about Zapdos's existence to avoid unnecessary trouble.
"Oh, Red, do you need to switch Pokémon?" After seeing the hint, Professor Oak indicated that he understood.
"I need Beedrill and Pidgeot. I'll send Hitmonchan and Abra to you first."
With that, Red took two Poké Balls from his waist and placed them on the transfer device. As the light flashed, the two Poké Balls materialized at the lab. Professor Oak then used the loudspeaker to call Beedrill and Pidgeot from the backyard.
Upon hearing Red's voice, the two Pokémon excitedly gathered in front of the screen. Pidgeot, in its excitement, directly kicked Professor Oak aside.
"Alright, alright, don't be so excited. I need your help now," Red soothed, calming the two Pokémon.
A disheveled Professor Oak pitifully got up, returned Beedrill and Pidgeot to their Poké Balls, and placed them on the transfer machine.
"I've received them, Professor. I'm ending the call now," Red said, disconnecting the call.
"It seems you're ready." Seeing Red return to the backyard, Koga immediately noticed the two different Poké Balls on his waist. "The battle format is still two-on-two. No problem, right?"
"Let's go. These two are eager for a fight."
Janine raised her flags. "Each trainer may use two Pokémon. The battle is over when both Pokémon on one side are unable to continue! Begin!"
As Janine announced the rules, Red and Koga simultaneously threw their Poké Balls.
"I choose you, Pidgeot!"
"I'm counting on you, Weezing!"
Pidgeot and Weezing appeared in the sky simultaneously, staring directly at each other.
"A Shiny Pidgeot… This is truly an opponent not to be underestimated," Koga said cautiously.
"Weezing, use Sludge Bomb!"
Two concentrated sludge balls spewed from Weezing's mouths, rapidly flying towards Pidgeot's position.
"Air Cutter!"
Pidgeot flapped its wings forcefully, and two sharp wind blades were released from its wings, cutting the approaching sludge in half, which then fell to the ground, emitting a faint foul odor.
"Wing Attack," Red commanded, giving Weezing no chance to relax.
Relying on its proud speed, Pidgeot instantly appeared in front of Weezing, its wings glowing white, continuously striking Weezing's body. Weezing cried out in pain from the sudden attack.
"Weezing, endure the assault and use Smokescreen to escape!"
Upon receiving Koga's command, Weezing took two more Wing Attacks, enduring the pain to release a large cloud of poisonous mist from its mouths. The mist instantly enveloped the sky, providing Weezing with an opportunity to retreat. To avoid inhaling the poisonous gas, Pidgeot instinctively flapped its wings to move away, then immediately used Hurricane to disperse the mist.
"Weezing, use Sludge Bomb!"
As a Poison-type, Weezing was unaffected. This poisonous mist was its masterpiece, so it wasn't distracted like Pidgeot. Two concentrated sludge balls hit Pidgeot's wings, and the heavy feeling made Pidgeot temporarily unable to adapt, slowing its speed.
"Weezing, use Thunderbolt now!" Koga commanded. Weezing rubbed its body, and a powerful current was released.
"Use Double Team to dodge!"
Pidgeot's figure suddenly blurred, and then countless Pidgeot occupied the sky, while the current released by Weezing regrettably hit one of the clones.
"Use Brave Bird to burn off the sludge on your body!" Red commanded.
Blue flames covered Pidgeot's entire body, dissolving the sludge on its wings. Pidgeot then flapped its wings, quickly arriving in front of Weezing, and forcefully knocked it down.
"Weezing, use Thunderbolt at close range!"
Weezing's body released electricity again, accurately hitting Pidgeot's body.
"Use Steel Wing to embed yourself in the ground!"
Pushing away the entangled Weezing, Pidgeot endured the stinging sensation brought by the current, flew back to the ground at low altitude, and plunged one wing into the ground, injecting all the remaining current into the earth.
"A good tactic, but unfortunately Weezing's stamina is also nearing its limit." Noticing Weezing panting occasionally, Koga understood that it was time to decide the victor.
"Weezing, use Sludge Bomb!" Two concentrated sludge balls once again spewed from Weezing's mouth, rapidly descending above Pidgeot.
"Use Agility to dodge, then use Quick Attack!" Pidgeot's figure suddenly blurred, dodging the attack, then immediately came behind Weezing and used Quick Attack on it. "Press the advantage, use Air Cutter!"
Two sharp wind blades were released from Pidgeot's wings, accurately hitting Weezing's vital point on its back.
"I apologize, Red. Weezing, use your final Destiny Bond!" Koga shouted, then looked at Red with an apologetic gaze, hoping Red wouldn't mind his tactic.
A demonic pattern of gas inexplicably appeared on Weezing's body, then drilled into Pidgeot. As Weezing fainted on the ground after being hit by Air Cutter, Pidgeot, affected by it, also trembled and fell to the ground weakly.
"I'm sorry, Pidgeot. I was too careless," Red said, blaming himself for not anticipating the move. Koga saw that Red didn't blame him for the 'dirty trick,' but instead looked at his Pokémon with self-reproach. He felt a pang of respect for the young trainer.
"Both Pokémon are unable to battle! This match is a draw!" Janine announced.
"Next is the final battle," Janine announced, raising her flags. The moment they fell, the second battle would begin. "Battle start!"
Red and Koga threw their Poké Balls.
"Avenge Pidgeot, Beedrill!"
"I'm counting on you, Crobat!"
As the two white lights faded, Beedrill immediately took an excellent aerial advantage, looking down at the Crobat below. It glanced at the unconscious Pidgeot on the ground, and a hint of anger arose in its heart. Beedrill wanted to avenge its companion. If Pidgeot had been defeated by pure strength, Beedrill wouldn't have been so angry, but its fainted state was the result of a trick, similar to a curse.
