Chapter 19 - 18. The Masked Man

"Please, Jennifer, Don't ever hide something related to this, ever again, even if I am tired or in a business meeting, just call me. Cause I can't lose you." Tan says looking into Jennifer's doe eyes, his eyes held a deeper meaning to his words, the words he wasn't saying, his eyes said it all.

Trrrrriiiiiinnnnngggggg

The alarm went off, breaking the moment between Tan and Jennifer. Tan's eyes widened as he realized what he had said, and he quickly rushed towards the wardrobe. Jennifer's face flushed, and she felt confused. She checked her phone and saw it was 7:30 a.m. She tried to stand up but forgot about her injured foot and cried out in pain.

Tan rushed out of the wardrobe and helped Jennifer, his concern evident on his face. "You can't put weight on your injured foot like that," he said gently, his voice laced with worry. Jennifer felt frustrated and embarrassed, her eyes welling up with tears. "But I have to do my morning routine," she said, looking down and pouting.

Tan's expression softened, and he smiled slightly. "Okay then," he said, scooping her up in his arms. "Now, I will help you." Jennifer's protests were immediate, but Tan was firm. "No, no buts, I said what I said," he said, his voice gentle but authoritative.

As he carried her to the bathroom, Jennifer couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over her. Tan's strong arms made her feel safe and protected. He sat her down on the bathroom counter, his hands lingering on her waist as he steadied her.

Handing her toothbrush, Tan said, "Brush your teeth, and call me when you're done. I'm just in the room." Jennifer nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. As Tan turned to leave, she couldn't help but notice the way his eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled.

With a gentle touch, Tan ensured she was comfortable before leaving her to her morning routine. Jennifer watched him go, feeling a flutter in her chest. She began brushing her teeth, her mind wandering to the way Tan had taken charge, his gentle yet firm touch.

As she finished up, Jennifer called out to Tan, her voice barely above a whisper. She knew she could rely on him, and that thought filled her with a sense of comfort and security. Tan's response was immediate, and he was by her side in an instant, helping her down from the counter and ensuring she was steady on her feet.

When it was time for Tan to leave for work, Jennifer pouted. "Why can't I come with you? I'm your secretary," she said. Tan's expression turned firm. "You're not going anywhere with your injured foot. I won't be able to focus on work knowing you're not taking care of yourself," he said.

As Tan was leaving, he suddenly remembered something. "Message me that phone number who messaged you," he said. Tan looked sorry and apologized for bringing it up. Jennifer's face paled, and she fumbled over her words. "N-No, it's okay. If I want to move on, I have to face it," she said.

Tan's eyes locked onto Jennifer's, filled with understanding and empathy. He knew she was struggling, and he wanted to help her. Despite the challenges they faced, their love for each other only grew stronger.

As Tan left for work, Jennifer felt a mix of emotions. She was grateful for Tan's care and concern, but she was also struggling with her own demons. She knew she had to face her fears and move on, but it wasn't easy.

Tan, on the other hand, was worried about Jennifer. He knew she was hurt, and he wanted to help her heal. He made a mental note to check in on her throughout the day and make sure she was okay.

As said, Mia got two days leave, so as to accompany her bestie. Because of this, she was on cloud, she made a mental note to tease Jennifer till she become a blushing mess.

Right now, the besties were watching a thriller movie, with popcorn and cola, of course, not sponsoring, yeah. They were too engrossed in the movie, that's when the screen went off, and a masked man appeared on the screen, he had weirdly coloured eyes, one hazel and the other blue, they seemed too familiar to Jennifer, for her to ignore them just like that. Everything was pretty normal until that man spoke up.

Jennifer's heart sank as the masked man's words cut through the air, his voice sending shivers down her spine. She felt like she'd been punched in the gut, her breath catching in her throat. Mia, oblivious to the sinister tone, was still engrossed in the scene, thinking it was part of the movie.

The masked man's eyes seemed to bore into Jennifer's soul, and she felt a chill run down her spine. "How is life?" he asked, his voice dripping with malice. Jennifer's mind was racing, her thoughts a jumbled mess. She hadn't expected this, hadn't expected to hear that voice again.

As the man continued to speak, Jennifer's fear gave way to panic. She tried to process what was happening, but her mind was a blank. Mia, still clueless, turned to Jennifer and whispered, "OMG, this movie is so intense!" Jennifer's eyes locked onto the screen, her face pale.

The masked man's words hung in the air, taunting Jennifer. "Never knew you will grow up to be this pretty... Jennifer Wilson, or should I say Jennifer Williams." The way he said her name, the way he emphasized the words, sent a shiver down her spine. Jennifer felt like she was trapped, like she was staring into the face of her worst nightmare.

Suddenly, the TV screen flickered, and the masked man's image disappeared. The room was plunged into darkness, and Jennifer was left with only her racing thoughts. What was happening? Who was this man? And why was he tormenting her like this?

Mia's eyes were wide with concern as she turned to Jennifer, her voice barely above a whisper. "Jenny, is he him? Please tell me he's not him," she pleaded, her face etched with worry. She knew the depth of Jennifer's trauma, and the thought of it resurfacing like this was unbearable.

Jennifer's face was pale, her eyes frozen on the screen, even though the image was gone. She seemed to be in shock, her mind reeling back to the past. Mia's words barely registered, her focus consumed by the voice, the eyes, the words that had been spoken.

Mia's concern grew as she saw Jennifer's reaction. She reached out, taking Jennifer's hand in hers, trying to offer comfort. "Jenny, talk to me. What's going on?" she asked softly, her voice laced with empathy.

But Jennifer was lost in her thoughts, her mind a jumble of memories and emotions. The past was colliding with the present, and she was struggling to cope. Mia's grip on her hand tightened, a silent promise of support and understanding. She would be there for Jennifer, no matter what.
