The dragon's chest rose and fell with a steady rhythm, each breath even and unhurried. Every injury was gone — completely, the scales sitting smooth and unbroken where torn flesh had been an hour ago. By every measure available to both of them, the dragon was physically whole.
It didn't wake up.
They waited longer.
Still nothing.
Both of them extended their awareness simultaneously — his spatial sense and her Archon-level perception spreading across the dragon's massive form, reading deeper than surface observation could reach.
Nothing wrong. Breathing stable, life force strong and steady, no hidden injury, no toxin or curse sitting underneath the surface doing quiet damage. Everything that should have been functioning was functioning exactly as it should.
It simply wasn't waking up.
