Chapter 279 - Chapter 280: Fang Yu'er's Compromise

Looking at Fang Yu'er's hesitation, Lin Yun knew he had her completely figured out. No matter how stubborn she had been before, she now had no choice but to cooperate with him. It was the only path left before her.

Fang Wenhe wanted to use this opportunity to completely rid himself of the trouble that was Fang Yu'er. What conflict existed between the two of them, Lin Yun was not yet clear on. But this time, Fang Wenhe had, to a certain extent, helped him. If he hadn't known that Fang Yu'er was not truly accepted by the Crimson Ghost Sect, Lin Yun would not have dared to make such a risky move.

Lin Yun wasn't in a hurry to pressure her. Since he knew the woman had no other choice, he might as well wait quietly.

Sure enough, after only a moment, Fang Yu'er's tone changed.

"I can agree to your request," she said, "but you must guarantee my safety, and you must form a contract with me."

To be honest, Fang Yu'er had been forced into a dead end. If she didn't do as Fang Wenhe said, she feared she would have no place left in the Crimson Ghost Sect. Therefore, even though she knew this would put her in danger, she had no choice but to agree. But now, with Lin Yun's help, everything had a chance to turn around.

Lin Yun slowly stood up. "Of course. As long as you and I are on the same side, you are my companion. I will naturally guarantee your safety. But you can also rest assured. Although Prince Zuo Cheng is not easy to deal with, he will not be able to see through your identity."

There was a fundamental difference between Fang Yu'er and the other members of the Crimson Ghost Sect. So, Lin Yun didn't believe their trip would be a suicide mission. Even if Prince Zuo Cheng did discover her identity, they had ways to salvage the situation.

And so, the two of them temporarily reached an agreement.

To cooperate with Fang Yu'er, Lin Yun naturally had to continue pretending to be bewitched. For the rest of the time, the two of them had to be alone in the same room. During this process, Fang Yu'er was still somewhat nervous. Although her bewitchment arts were formidable, they were mostly for show. Usually, men who fell for her arts were putty in her hands. But the Lin Yun before her was the only man who was completely unaffected by her charms. Thus, his every move was filled with threat, making her heart uneasy.

Fortunately, Lin Yun made no untoward moves throughout the night. For others, this situation might have been special, but Lin Yun remained perfectly calm.

Time quickly passed to the next day.

Knowing that Fang Yu'er was about to leave, Fang Wenhe had been happy all night. He came to the courtyard early in the morning. After a short while, he saw Fang Yu'er emerge with Lin Yun.

Out of his own cautious nature, Fang Wenhe's gaze was still very wary when he looked at Lin Yun. Although Fang Yu'er was very skilled in her particular arts, as the current supervisor of Maoshan Village, he naturally had to keep the situation under control and ensure everything proceeded according to his plan.

"It seems the results are quite good," Fang Wenhe said with a smug smile, looking at Lin Yun, who was following beside Fang Yu'er with the expression of a leering pig.

Although Fang Yu'er was inwardly annoyed, she didn't let it show on her face. "For now, this man is still under our control."

Fang Wenhe nodded with satisfaction. "Since he is one of Prince Zuo Cheng's men, you know how to proceed. Don't worry, I have already made all the arrangements over there."

Lin Yun watched the two of them feigning affection and sneered in his heart. Fang Wenhe clearly didn't trust him and was even more doubtful of Fang Yu'er's abilities. But after a series of tests, Lin Yun had always been able to respond perfectly. Even Fang Yu'er couldn't help but be impressed. Even men she had completely bewitched couldn't act the part as well as Lin Yun did.

After confirming that there were no unexpected variables, Fang Wenhe finally relaxed.

"Yu'er, this matter rests entirely on your shoulders. As long as you can make Prince Zuo Cheng trust us, you will have nothing to worry about in the future. I will certainly report your merits to the higher-ups and request a reward for you."

Fang Yu'er sneered inwardly but still smiled and nodded in agreement. "Then I will have to trouble you."

She didn't want to stay in this place for a second longer. Before, she had been afraid that leaving would mean her death. But now that she no longer had that worry, leaving this place as soon as possible was the smartest move.

Lin Yun followed behind Fang Yu'er, and the two of them quickly headed for the village entrance.

Fang Wenhe stood where he was, quietly watching their retreating backs. Only when they had completely disappeared from his line of sight did he throw his head back and laugh aloud.

"I never would have thought… that all of this would come so quickly."

Just then, several young disciples appeared beside him.

"Elder Fang. Is this truly safe? With Fang Yu'er's strength, what if she exposes our situation? I fear it will immediately bring Prince Zuo Cheng's wrath down upon us."

Although his subordinates were worried, Fang Wenhe was completely unconcerned. So what if Prince Zuo Cheng really came for them? Not to mention the round trip would take several days, even if he found out ahead of time, they would have plenty of time to prepare. Furthermore, the power of the Crimson Ghost Sect was still growing. Soon, they would be the ones holding the initiative.

"No need to worry about these things. All we need to do is control the situation."

At first, Fang Yu'er's face was a mask of grief and indignation. But the moment she left the village, her entire mindset changed. Fang Wenhe's power certainly couldn't protect her, but Lin Yun was different. His performance last night had also earned a great deal of her trust.

"Actually, I'm very curious. Your relationship with Fang Wenhe should be quite close." Although they seemed like enemies, Lin Yun felt that the two of them were related by blood. If they were truly grandfather and granddaughter, that would be far too melodramatic.

Hearing Lin Yun's question, Fang Yu'er suddenly exploded with anger. "That damned man! He is a distant cousin of mine! Back then, in order to join the Crimson Ghost Sect, he didn't hesitate to use my innocence to curry favor with the sect's higher-ups! If someone hadn't discovered in time that I had a talent for the bewitchment arts, I'm afraid I would be nothing more than someone else's plaything right now!"

Although Fang Yu'er had successfully changed her own destiny, Fang Wenhe was not so lucky. He had once been a dashing and suave young master. But because of this incident, he had incurred someone's hatred and was cursed, turning him into the old man he was today. And every year, he continues to age prematurely.

It was from that moment on that the hatred in Fang Wenhe's heart for her grew even deeper. He even blamed all of his misfortune on her.

Knowing the full story now, Lin Yun just gave a contemptuous smile. Sometimes, hatred is born just that suddenly.
