Aria's POV
"She's bleeding out, Damon—GO! If we don't move now, we'll lose her. Drive faster—don't stop for anything!"
Godson's voice roared like thunder behind me as Damon carried me into the car, my blood soaking through his shirt, his grip iron-strong.
"I'm not letting her die!" he growled, slamming the door. The engine roared like a beast awakened, tires shrieking against the gravel.
I heard Godson jump in next to him, barking orders into his phone as the car tore into the night, a metal bullet chasing time.
"Lila…" I murmured weakly, my hand twitching against Damon's chest as the darkness closed in. "Don't let them… please… don't let them take her away.
Promise me… promise you'll bring her back. She's all I have left…"
His voice cracked through my haze like a lightning bolt. "I won't. I swear to God, I won't."
Then darkness curled around the edges of my vision, like ink seeping into water. I clung to his heartbeat like it was my own.
