Chapter 313 - When Symbols Become Fate

Logan lowered his head and checked the sequence recorded in his notebook.

Without the slightest hesitation, his hand pressed against one of the Unknown glyphs engraved into the wall.

"Huh?"

He let out a soft exclamation, joy flashing across his face, as he discovered that the glyph he had touched trembled, as if it were alive.

The movement was incredibly subtle—so slight that without full concentration, Logan would never have noticed it.

Seizing the moment, Logan followed the sequence he had reconstructed from ancient documents. His hand moved across the wall densely covered in Unknown glyphs, pressing lightly on several specific symbols in a precise order.

The sequence and the glyphs functioned like an arcane password.

When the final symbol was pressed, the glyphs came alive.

"…These are—living Unknown?"

Logan stared in astonishment as the symbols tore free from the stone wall and transformed into living beings. Only then did realization strike him—

These glyphs had never been carved by humans.

They had always been alive.

Dozens of Unknown gathered together, spinning rapidly around a single point. Gradually, at the center of their rotation, a structure resembling a gateway began to form—like a spatial portal.

Logan hesitated for only a fraction of a second before striding forward decisively and stepping inside.

His mind blurred.

In the blink of an eye, he arrived in a completely different place.

"Is this another dimension… or simply the interior of the mountain?"

Logan frowned as he examined his surroundings.

This new space resembled the Cave of Origin, with ancient patterns etched into the walls. However, unlike the murals outside that depicted the construction of Sootopolis City, these paintings were far older.

Even more striking—Logan noticed different artistic styles within the same space, as if these murals had been created across multiple eras and multiple civilizations.

"This must be a place where civilizations that once existed on the Hoenn continent all left their marks. The League couldn't have found this—without knowing the 'password,' no instrument could breach the energy barrier formed by the Unknown."

Logan walked through this mysterious space that likely hadn't been entered for a thousand years. He opened his Pokédex—the location still registered as Sootopolis City.

But whether this was a subspace or a hidden cavern within the mountain, even the Pokédex couldn't determine.

Unknown were Pokémon that even Professor Oak had failed to fully understand. Their sheer variety and bizarre powers were uncanny—powers that felt, in some ways, even stranger than those of Legendary Pokémon.

Setting those thoughts aside, Logan raised his head and began studying the murals more closely.

Nearly all of them depicted Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza.

In every mural, Kyogre and Groudon clashed on opposite sides, while Rayquaza descended from above, plunging into the battlefield between them.

Taken together, the murals formed an awe-inspiring, epic panorama.

If this place were ever discovered, it would undoubtedly shake the entire world.

What was most unbelievable was that every mural was painted in a different style—proof that each one recorded a separate conflict between Kyogre and Groudon across different eras.

"What is this—?!"

The space was complex but not vast. When Logan reached its deepest point, the mural before him made him cry out involuntarily.

It spanned an entire wall over a hundred meters wide, depicting a civilization's birth, prosperity, and eventual destruction like a massive illustrated chronicle.

And unlike the other murals—

Arceus appeared in this one.

One scene showed the civilization praying to Arceus, receiving something in response. That gift was then divided into three parts, from which two orbs were created.

"I see… I see now…"

Logan murmured in realization.

"This must be the Hoenn civilization closest to modern times. The League could never determine the materials or technology used to create the orbs that controlled Kyogre and Groudon—because they were born from Arceus's power itself!"

"Alpha (α)… Omega (Ω)… Delta (δ)…"

Logan recognized the markings etched onto Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza.

"These symbols…"

His gaze fell upon two spherical shapes depicted in the mural.

"These must be the orbs. The Blue Orb and the Red Orb were placed together—but where exactly is this location? I'm not familiar enough with Hoenn's geography. I'll photograph this first and track it down later."

Excited, Logan took photos of the mural. He had never expected to uncover the hiding place of the Red Orb and Blue Orb here.

"No—wait. These Unknown symbols…"

As Logan looked up again, his eyes widened violently. He staggered back a step in disbelief.

Only now did he realize that the number and variety of Unknown glyphs here far exceeded everything discovered by modern civilization.

If Unknown researchers ever came here, they would go mad.

But what truly stunned Logan was the shape of these glyphs.

Though distorted, he recognized them.

They included the twenty-six English letters, Japanese hiragana and katakana, unfamiliar Latin scripts, and even Chinese radicals and components.

The Pokémon world's written language was completely different from anything Logan knew.

This was the first time he had ever seen writing from his original world appear here.

And even more impossibly—it contained nearly every writing system he knew.

Logan began rearranging the twisted Unknown glyphs into segments.

Japanese was easiest—he could piece together several characters.

His English was solid—many words became clear.

Chinese was manageable.

Latin… he could only guess.

"Sky… land… ocean… soul… life… time… space… dimension… quantum…"

"…Tra—tra—traverse?! What the hell is this?!"

Logan couldn't stop himself from swearing.

These glyphs were not alive this time—they had been deliberately carved.

Their meanings were lofty, abstract, and terrifyingly advanced.

Where had the creators seen these concepts?

And how had they known to record them?

Logan's heart pounded with excitement and dread, as though layers of mist were being peeled away, revealing fragments of an incomprehensible truth.

Yet after reading everything again, he realized—

He still understood nothing.

"No wonder Unknown have always been considered a written language, yet never deciphered. They aren't one language at all—they're a fusion of many. Pictographs, alphabets, ideograms… without a reference point, deciphering them is impossible."

Logan took a deep breath and forced his racing heart to calm.

He had glimpsed a corner of this world's truth.

And once that corner had been found, the rest would eventually follow.

Taking one last long look at the murals, Logan turned and left.

They were mysterious, but they recorded no concrete instructions.

The one conclusion Logan could draw with certainty was this—

To find Rayquaza, one could not escape Kyogre and Groudon.

Every appearance of Rayquaza was tied to their war.

He searched the space once more, passing countless ancient relics. Any of them could fetch a fortune if sold, but Logan had no interest in wealth.

Eventually, among scattered debris, he found a small wooden box.

Opening it, he revealed an ancient flute.

The flute looked like it was made of bone—yet also like wood. Its body was brown, but its two ends were completely different: one blue, one red. From a distance, it resembled a small cross.

The moment Logan grasped it, an unfamiliar power surged through him.

That power pointed him in a direction.

South.

Toward the southern seas of Hoenn—

toward the island city known as Alto Mare.

"So this is why it was treasured…"

Logan smiled in satisfaction.

"At last, I've found you—the Eon Flute."

Guided by its power, Latios and Latias would have nowhere left to hide.
