The second Cain left his penthouse, the walls seemed to close in around Jack. He loosened his tie, tossed it carelessly on the couch, and paced across the polished floor like a caged animal. His mind wouldn't quiet down. Selena. The baby. Cain's words echoed over and over.
He just couldn't focus.
Baby issues. Three days off. And the worst part, Selena didn't want him to know.
Jack pressed a hand to the back of his neck, dragging it down in frustration. He poured himself a drink but didn't touch it, just let it sit there untouched on the glass table. His chest felt tight, as if the oxygen in the room wasn't enough. He wanted answers. He needed to hear it from her, not through Cain, not through assumptions.
Without realizing, he was already at her door.
Jack knocked once, firmly, and when the door opened, Selena's face appeared—startled, guarded, exhausted. She didn't say a word, just stepped aside so he could enter.
