Lucien looked upward.
Hunger hovered far above the settlement.
The Incarnation had not shown himself to the mortals.
He had not struck them directly.
To anyone without the ability to sense his authority, the disaster would resemble a sudden and inexplicable famine.
Lucien's eyes narrowed.
So that was how they intended to interfere with history.
Carefully.
If these people simply died from hunger and drought, perhaps the damage to causality would be far smaller than if a Primordial Incarnation descended into the village and slaughtered everyone personally.
Lucien did not know the exact rules yet.
He did not need to.
The Incarnation's caution already told him that direct interference carried consequences.
Hunger sensed Lucien.
The Vulturekin turned his head.
He made no attempt to withdraw his Law.
Lucien raised one hand.
Space cut across the village.
There was no visible blade.
