Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Stat Points! Reuniting with Miko Yotsuya

Gold-Ranked Adventurer: Thanks so much to @Ordinary High Schooler and @Future Holy Sword Wielder for coming to save me! If there's ever anything I can do for you, just say the word!

Future Holy Sword Wielder: If you can become a Holy Sword Wielder successfully, I'd be grateful if you could share your experiences with me.

Railgun: That handgun you used... what even is that thing? It seemed way stronger than any normal gun. Doesn't even need reloading.

Future Holy Sword Wielder: It's a magical device from our world. Just load it with mana and it fires automatically.

Mistress of the Butterfly Estate: By the way, what are these chat group points even used for?

Ordinary High Schooler: Right now, you can use them to set teleportation anchors across worlds. That Gold-Ranked Adventurer's world will be really helpful for me.

Mistress of the Butterfly Estate: Huh? What do you mean?

Ordinary High Schooler: It means... I can now go to her world anytime I want.

...

Shirakawa didn't respond further to the chat. After all, there was no need to hide the fact about teleportation anchors. Heading to the Goblin Slayer world—

Meant being a stranger in a strange land.

If Lianne Viviette could serve as his local guide, that would save him a lot of trouble.

Upon returning to his original world, his location hadn't shifted, and the world's time flow remained unchanged. It was already late at night.

"Time to head home..."

Shirakawa shook his head. The alley he had cleared earlier no longer had any lingering evil aura. And after facing off against goblins...

He wasn't in the mood to bother with low-level ghosts.

Stepping out of the alley, finally with some time to himself, he pulled up his Profession Panel.

[Profession 3: Holy Sword Wielder Lv4 (1967/20000)]

[Core Skill: All Things of Creation Lv3 (7901/10000)]

[Basic Skills: Mana Infusion Lv1, Mana Release Lv2]

[Skill Points: 3]

[Evolution Points: 3]

Skill Points, as the name implied, were for raising skill levels—especially for those that couldn't gain experience through normal combat and had to be trained, like the Exorcist's Diamond Body.

But that profession was already maxed out.

So Shirakawa focused on the basic skills of the Holy Sword Wielder, particularly Mana Infusion—a body-strengthening skill that improved physical abilities and mana efficiency.

"Allocate points."

[Basic Skill: Mana Infusion increased!]

Lv1 → Lv4

"Next up: Attribute Panel."

Evolution Points weren't for upgrading professions, but for improving overall physical and mental stats—essentially,Stat allocation.

Opening his Attributes Panel, a different display appeared, showing Shirakawa's detailed stats:

[Name: Shirakawa]

[Gender: Male]

[Age: 17]

[Constitution: 11]

[Agility: 9]

[Strength: 10]

[Intelligence: 11]

[Spirit: 8]

[Current Professions: Student (Lv5), Exorcist (Lv5), Holy Sword Wielder (Lv4)]

...

"So there's a new stat now?"

Shirakawa quickly scanned the panel. When his eyes fell on Spirit, he was genuinely surprised.

He knew for sure—

That stat hadn't existed before he awakened as a Holy Sword Wielder.

It probably appeared because the core of that profession lay in channeling one's spiritual power into a blade.

True to his all-rounded "pentagon build" philosophy, Shirakawa didn't hesitate to evenly distribute all three Evolution Points across Agility and Spirit.

Now, every stat was at least 10.

"..."

There wasn't any dramatic effect from raising Agility, but the boost in Spirit was immediately noticeable.

His thoughts became sharper. His mind felt clearer.

It was a hard sensation to describe in words—

But the improvement was real.

"Guess I'll head back for now."

Shirakawa wasn't in a rush to put it into practice. The dimensional chat group had already unlocked the world transfer function—he could visit the Goblin Slayer world whenever he had time to learn more.

Right now…

What excited him the most was using the mana tempering skill from the [Holy Sword Wielder] class. He just didn't know whether it would bring direct numerical boosts.

As he walked back to the street, it was nearing 11 p.m.

Due to the late hour, there were few pedestrians save for a few drunken wanderers. At the far end of the street, a figure dressed in loungewear, with long, silky black hair, walked hesitantly, stopping every now and then to clutch her stomach.

"If what Shirakawa-kun said is true, then as long as I pretend I don't see these ghosts… they can't do anything to me."

Nighttime had become a living nightmare for Yotsuya Miko. The number of wandering spirits roaming the streets surged after dark—and they followed her relentlessly.

Living alone in Chiba now, her day-to-day life was far from settled. Maybe it was some bad food she'd eaten, but the pain in her stomach had grown unbearable. With no choice left, she braved the night to buy medicine from the nearby pharmacy.

However…

Just as she stepped out of the store, a grotesque ghost reeking of powerful resentment latched onto her.

Its face was a hideous patchwork of needle-stitched flesh, exuding a foul stench.

And then, unbelievably, the ghost stepped right in front of her, its chilling aura surrounding her as it asked:

"Can you see me?"

The streetlamp overhead flickered dimly.

Yotsuya Miko clenched her teeth, struggling to hold back tears. She couldn't afford to let this entity sense her fear.

"Someone…"

"Can anyone save me?'

"Anyone at all!"

But as if sensing her mounting terror, the spirit didn't retreat—it stepped even closer, looming over her with its decaying face twisted in malice.

"So you really can see me?" it hissed.

"..."

Yotsuya Miko was near her limit, both physically and mentally. She lowered her head, willing herself to keep walking.

The street was already dim.

Not paying attention to her surroundings, she suddenly bumped into—

What was that?

She must've walked right into the ghost, right?

Why else would she—

As if drained of all strength, she collapsed to the pavement. Fear flooded her thoughts, bracing for a death straight out of a horror film.

But nothing happened.

No suffocating dread. No cold deathly grip.

"..."

Yotsuya Miko looked up—and standing before her was a familiar figure.

It was Shirakawa.

He held the trembling ghost in one hand, brow slightly furrowed as though pondering how best to deal with it.

When he noticed who had crashed into him, a soft smile formed on his face.

But his hand didn't hesitate in the slightest—as if it were nothing, he tore the vengeful spirit apart with brute strength amplified by his Diamond Body.

With the curse dispelled, the ghost vanished into nothingness, leaving behind no trace it had ever existed.

"Miko-san, I think I forgot to tell you something," Shirakawa said casually. "The best way to conquer fear... is to face it. See? These things aren't as scary as they seem."
