Mancini's POV
I could feel Marie's body tense beside me as I kept her arm locked in the crook of mine. I knew exactly what she wanted. But I didn't want to indulge her.
She had been quiet since we arrived, only nodding when spoken to. The few times she glanced around, I caught her eyes wandering to where it was not supposed to. I knew who she was looking for.
Marcus.
So I made sure she didn't get a chance to go anywhere. I moved through the crowd slowly, smiling at faces I had no use for. On a normal day, I wouldn't talk to the people I was talking to now. I was just using them to pass the time. I planned that at the end of the day, we would hang around everyone Marie thinks is family, and we would leave without her getting any opportunity to talk to anyone herself. I had checked, but I hadn't seen her father or her annoying brother. It was strange that they weren't there, but the family kept talking about how Roberto cut them off. Maybe he really does cut them off totally.
