The team first tasked the evolved to calm the people in the bus down while they went into the street.
They moved with caution, the setting sun casting its orange glow upon them. The beasts were weird, and they didn't know what would kill them.
Before long, they were standing in front of the bloody street sign.
"Fletcher Street", Valeria said, looking at the sign. The sun was just setting, and looking at the street sign, everything seemed like something out of a horror movie.
Well, their life was now a horror movie after the outbreak of the cosmic energy.
"Awooo!!"
As soon as they all walked past the street sign, they heard loud howls. The mutant wolves were angry that they had entered their territory.
But that wasn't all, they felt a qualitative increase in the cosmic energy in the surroundings.
Dare was staring at a holographic screen in front of him, while what looked like a spider drone with antenna for legs was in the sky.
On the screen, he could see weird red charts that made his eyes widen.
"The cosmic energy readings are of the charts; the energy here is more than twenty percent higher than outside", Dare said
"Since when did you start reading cosmic energy?" Amara asked, intrigued.
"I was bored on the bus", Dare answered.
Meanwhile, Zayden couldn't help but smile; everything was telling him that the pond had appeared. And it was a good thing.
"Guys, focus", Darian suddenly said, his ears twitching slightly.
(A/N: Sorry, I forgot to mention this)
While most couldn't hear it, Darian could because he was no longer human. After assimilating the bloodline of Tauras, the Heavenly Bull of Mayhem, Darian's race changed.
The horns that usually grew out of his forehead now became permanent, and his senses were heightened.
Everyone went quiet and listened, then they heard it, the howling of wolves, multiple footsteps coming in their direction.
Wolves were coming towards them, leaping off buildings and charging at them. Not one, not two, but over a hundred.
The eyes of most in the group narrowed. They had experience fighting nulls, but mutant beasts were a whole different case altogether.
Zayden did most of the work during their battles with mutant beasts, and the only people who had somewaht of some experience when fighting mutant beasts were Amara and Darian, but that was just a beast knock off.
Before long, the beasts were in front of them, and suddenly, without any prior warning or preparation, one of the wolves leapt off a building, its jaw opened unnaturally, revealing long, ass canines.
The wolf was weird, which was, of course, because it was mutated, but it had navy blue skin that crackled with lightning, red eyes and extra-long canines. The orange rays of the sun reflected off its sharp claws.
It was sudden, but they were prepared.
But to the surprise of the wolf, a lance, made entirely out of ice, was just at it, at unimaginable speeds. The wolf noticed it in time, but it was unable to do anything mid-air.
The lance of ice crashed into it, making it turn into a beautiful statue of ice, falling onto the ground and shattering into a million pieces.
But this was just the beginning.
The wolves kept leaping off buildings and toward the team like moths to flames, and Isara didn't relent.
"Time to get serious", she said as a mist made entirely out of ice spread out very quickly, forming little snowflakes in its wake.
What was worse was that as soon as the snowflake touched one of the beasts, it was turned into an ice statue on the spot.
"Beautiful Carnage" The ever-indifferent Isara had a slight smile on her face as she saw the shards of ice on the floor. The only things that remained of the first wave of wolves were ice shards and power shards.
Seeing Isara easily dealing with the beasts seemed to ignite some kind of fire within the rest of the team.
"I can't be outdone", Tyrel commented as golden lightning crackled around his hand.
The lightning was terrifying, but it came together to form a chain. The chain was very long, the width of each hook was the size of a small child's fist, and it crackled with golden energy at the helm.
The weirdest thing about the chain was that there was what looked to be a spearhead on the tip of the chain, crackling with equally terrifying energy.
"Bang!!"
With a loud bang of the chain hitting air like a whip, the chain swept out. The golden energy on it crackles terrifyingly.
Any wolf that the chain touched would be burned to a crisp, so much so that only a skeleton would remain.
Before the team knew what was happening, about fifty wolves were already dead.
"Haha... I'm getting fired up"
Reddish energy covered Soren as he charged into the horde of beasts. His hands grew unnaturally large, and a weird orange energy covered them. His eyes were slightly red, and his aura towered.
He swung his fist out.
"Bang!!"
The head of a wolf blasted into a mist of blood and brain matter, but Zayden, who was watching all this, couldn't help but smile wider.
The reason was that he saw a hint of silver in the red blood. Now, why was this important?
It was important because silver only showed when Cascading Starlight wasn't digested properly. With this, Zayden was finally sure that the pond had appeared, and these beasts were taking some energy from the pond.
But that led him to another thought.
'The Cascading Starlight Pond was a national treasure, and the beast that found it, even though it didn't have any sense of reasoning, should have the instinct to keep it all to itself, but all these wolves seemed to have drunk some water from the Pond, ' Zayden thought 'Something is wrong'
With this thought taking root in his mind, Zayden no longer stood. He channelled some raw oblivion flux into his sword, making some kind of dark aura cover it. He charged into the horde, his gaze locked on his target.
At the same time, Valeria was making her presence known.
Each swing from her released an arc of holy energy that flew towards the horde at unimaginable speeds. And as soon as it made contact with a wolf, it was certain death.
The holy energy seemed to eat up the wolf from the inside, burning it from the inside out.
The number of wolves was reducing steadily as all members of the team did their own work.
Meanwhile, back on the bus, most of the people had awed expressions on their faces. They had seen the powers displayed by everyone in the group.
Right from the beginning, when Isara turned many wolves into statues like an ice fairy, or when Tyrel wielded lightning like a god.
These were the only things that they could think of in a fantasy movie, but they could see their fellow schoolmates doing them.
"Can I also do something like this?" One of them said, just imagining himself weilding lightning like Tyrel was already giving him goosebumps.
He wanted to do something like this, and he wouldn't mind killing nulls to do that now.
While the thoughts of the people on the bus gradually changed, Zayden appeared in front of the beast that seemed to be the leader of the wolves, the alpha.
But just like most of the wolves, it was low-levelled, but Zayden could feel that it was marginally stronger than the basic mutant wolf. But it wasn't a problem for Zayden.
The wooshing of the air reached the ears of the beast, and before it knew what was happening, its head was already on the ground. But Zayden was uncaring.
The real reason why he targeted this wolf was because he could see a silver white substance coming off its body. He didn't need to touch it to know that it was water from the pond.
And just like what he thought, he could see a trail of dripping water going deeper into the street.
"This must lead to the pond" Zayden said, his gaze landing on the rest of the beasts, as he bagan to attack with more fervor
Before long, the beasts were defeated, the shards were gathered up and they headed into the street, following the trail of pond water.
