Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
A series of continuous explosions erupted, engulfing Obito in an inferno of blazing fire.
Attacking Obito relentlessly wasn't as simple as it seemed. The intensity of the assault had to be maintained at a level capable of instantly killing him. Otherwise, he could sustain injuries in exchange for resetting the duration of Kamui's intangibility.
This was precisely why Konan had laid down six hundred billion explosive tags in the original story—to ensure his death.
Despite his injuries, including a severe wound in his abdomen from being pierced by Nagato's Wood Release, Obito, bolstered by White Zetsu's support, managed to remain operational. He kept Kamui active and charged toward Deidara.
"I won't give you a chance to get close to me," Deidara said with a faint smile, ascending into the air on his clay bird.
Damn it! That brat!
Obito cursed inwardly and shifted his focus toward Itachi, who was the nearest target. If he could get close to anyone, Deidara's attacks would be restrained, giving him an opportunity to escape.
However, Itachi, though engaged in an intense battle with Zetsu, remained highly aware of his surroundings. He quickly discerned Obito's intentions.
"Ya! Ya!"
Itachi's form dissolved into a flock of crows, scattering as they flew into the sky.
In reality, this was merely an illusion created by genjutsu. Itachi didn't possess the ability to fly, but his genjutsu was so advanced that even those who knew it was an illusion couldn't locate his true body.
If not for Obito's Mangekyō Sharingan protecting him, Itachi could have easily defeated him with genjutsu alone.
Damn it! Even this brat!
Obito turned once again, this time charging toward Nagato and Konan. Konan, with wings of paper, effortlessly carried Nagato into the sky.
Damn it all!
Standing on the ground, Obito looked up at the group surrounding him in the air. His Sharingan glinted with unprecedented coldness.
No! I can't lose!
If I can't overcome this challenge, how can I create a world with Rin?
No, that's not it!
How can I create a peaceful world?
Without hesitation, Obito phased into the ground. Thanks to Kamui's ability to phase through any object, he moved through the earth at a speed unmatched even by skilled Earth Release users.
Let's see if those brats can catch me now!
Swoosh!
The sound of rapid movement through rock reached Obito's ears. His pupils contracted as countless clay rock worms and clay centipedes swarmed through the underground tunnels.
Suddenly, the movements of these clay creatures froze, as if someone had pressed pause.
But Obito knew better—this was the prelude to an explosion.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Sure enough, the clay creatures detonated one after another, not only enveloping Obito in the shadow of death but also blasting apart the underground section he had phased into, forcing him back into the open where everyone could see him.
"Why don't you hand over the Rinnegan and your Sharingan? I might just spare your life," Deidara said with a smirk.
After all, Obito was nothing more than a pitiful pawn, manipulated and deceived. If he wasn't standing in the way of Deidara's path to salvation, Deidara wouldn't mind saving him as a side note.
Of course, in Obito's ears, Deidara's words carried an entirely different meaning.
"You think I'm out of options?" Obito sneered coldly.
"Let me show you my power."
"Zetsu, cover me," he commanded.
"No problem," Black Zetsu's raspy voice replied.
Though he didn't know Obito's exact plan, Obito was a crucial piece in Black Zetsu's multilayered schemes. If this pawn were lost, he would have to rework his entire plan to resurrect Kaguya.
"Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence!"
Countless trees erupted from the ground, growing rapidly to form an expansive forest. This was one of the First Hokage Senju Hashirama's most iconic techniques. Within this forest, the user could attack and defend simultaneously while absorbing chakra, making it a formidable jutsu.
Of course, using such a powerful Wood Release came at a cost. The White Zetsu attached to Black Zetsu rapidly shriveled, deflating like a punctured balloon until it was nearly just a husk.
"Hurry up. I can only buy you thirty seconds," Black Zetsu said, his tone uncharacteristically urgent.
"Thirty seconds? We won't even give you one!" Deidara's voice rang out from above the forest.
A flaming longsword slashed through the trees, revealing a red-armored giant above—the Susanoo.
Itachi had unleashed his ultimate technique.
Following the flaming sword was a long, white clay serpent coiled around it, slithering rapidly toward Obito, ready to explode.
Damn it! Just a little more time, and I could've completed Kamui's teleportation!
Black Zetsu glanced at Obito in frustration, only to be stunned. Obito wasn't preparing to use Kamui for teleportation at all. He was simply standing there, motionless, as if waiting for death.
Did that idiot just make me go all out just to reset Kamui's cooldown? How foolish!
Black Zetsu's anger was short-lived. To his shock, the clay serpent's explosion engulfed Obito entirely.
He didn't activate Kamui?!
Wait! It's that!
Black Zetsu quickly realized the truth.
The Obito who should have died reappeared in another location, reborn in a bizarre manner. Removing his mask, he took out the Rinnegan he had seized from Nagato and quickly implanted it into his own eye socket. Thanks to White Zetsu's enhancements, he was able to establish neural connections without the need for surgery.
In an instant, an overwhelming surge of power coursed through Obito's body. Feeling the immense strength within him, a slight smirk appeared on his lips beneath the mask.
Indeed, his earlier caution had been the right choice!
I've overcome the challenge fate has thrown at me. I will surpass everything!
In truth, when Obito had seized Nagato's second Rinnegan and was confronted by Itachi's Amaterasu, he had two choices.
The first was to evade as he had done earlier.
The second was to persist in taking the Rinnegan and use Izanagi to resurrect himself, effectively trading a life for the Rinnegan.
However, considering the strong enemies surrounding him, losing Izanagi as a critical trump card might have made escape impossible. In that case, even if he obtained both Rinnegan, what would be the point?
Thus, after only a brief moment of hesitation, Obito chose the more cautious path. That choice had now saved his life.
Ten seconds earlier, while underground, Obito had already used Izanagi to record a location. Allowing himself to be killed, he was reborn at that recorded point, seamlessly completing a pseudo-teleportation.
Even if Deidara and Itachi continued their assault, they would need a moment to reach him again.
And in this moment, Obito had already implanted the Rinnegan.
The Rinnegan, when wielded by an Uchiha, could unleash its true potential.
He had won!
