Chapter 9 - What You Can Blame

While his servants were cleaning his room, David was in the sword training arena, observing his surroundings.

"Quite spacious," he said while walking toward a wooden box where swords were gathered.

He took one sword, then felt that it was heavier than it looked.

"In this world, not only the body can be relied on." He channeled mana into his right hand that was holding the sword.

"Becoming lighter, such an easy technique." He swung the sword, slashing it to the right.

"Just as in the memories I have obtained," he said while pulling back the hand that had just swung the sword, until the blade was right in front of him.

His left hand touched the cold blade.

"This world is very interesting." He stared at the faint reflection of his eyes in the sword.

"The memories I have obtained… are not complete." He recalled how the king card without an emblem was the source of his memories about Caelan's life.

"Based on cards? Are the four king cards all complete? But that card had no emblem…" he muttered while lowering the sword that had been reflecting his eyes.

Just as he lowered the sword, a firm voice came from behind him.

"Your Majesty."

David turned, seeing a knight kneeling. The knight who trained Caelan, he muttered in his heart.

"What is it?" David asked softly.

"How is your training? Do you want to continue according to the method you requested?" asked the knight.

"No, stand up!" David ordered.

The knight stood straight, wearing shining silver armor with a red cloak behind him.

"I want to train my body, minimize the use of mana in the next training," said David as he put back the sword he had just held.

The knight before him fell silent, looking shocked, then nodded.

"Understood, Your Majesty."

An expression so easy to read, shocked because your weak king in the past only wanted to rely on mana? David questioned in his heart, mocking the original owner of the body that now served as his vessel.

"Your Majesty, forgive me if I am late to say this… but," he raised his right hand, clenched his fist and placed it on his chest, "Congratulations on your ascension to the throne."

"Hahaha… don't worry, Uncle Alberich." It will be fun to surprise him a little, David muttered.

"I am still Caelan whom you must train. Please teach me swordsmanship with minimal mana, and I also want to train my body," he said while imitating Caelan's smile.

"A…" Alberich's mouth opened slightly, unable to believe that the boy who once preferred magic over physical strength was now asking him to minimize the use of mana in training and also wanted to train his body.

"We will start training tomorrow," David said firmly before walking past Alberich.

David excused himself, then walked around the palace admiring its beauty. Feeling the euphoria that had so far only been his fantasy.

Not long after, he finally returned to his room after the servant informed him that it had been cleaned up.

He waited for dusk to arrive with a heart pounding fast, adrenaline ready to support the social conquest that would soon be voiced by his mouth.

Without much disturbance in his small new kingdom, David fantasized about how Gravemarch would have vast royal territories. He took a piece of paper containing his chosen speech, reading it over and over in his heart, he stood and walked toward the mirror.

He had already imagined how his gestures would look when saying each sentence later. Long story short, time passed, and everyone had gathered in front of the palace. Gregor informed David, and without much talk David immediately wanted to go there.

"Your Majesty, your robe and crown have been prepared," several servants came into David's room.

David took the robe and crown and told Gregor to wait for him a moment. While putting on the robe he muttered, "I almost forgot the luxury I must show as a king." He took the crown and put it on.

He then walked out, following Gregor, receiving salutes with each step he took. Until he reached the balcony, not long after, a servant came forward and gave him a pair of gloves. David put them on and stepped toward the balcony, clearing his throat, activating the voice-amplifying magic commonly used by nobles.

"Gravemarch…" he said loudly.

Citizens, nobles, slaves fell silent and focused on one voice. The mother of the body's original owner stood behind him, the younger sister of the original kingtrembled in shock at the firmness of her brother's voice.

"My people…" David spread his arms as if about to fly.

"You can blame the world… for allowing the birth of nobles, commoners, and even slaves…"

His right hand moved forward, his left hand lowered.

"My people, you can blame the god… for allowing your souls to be born into lowly ranks." He pointed to the sky.

Everyone who witnessed that speech could only stay silent, shocked at the words that came out of their king.

The crowd began to whisper, wondering why their king would say such a thing.

"Or you can be grateful to me, your king, your leader…" He held his chest until his clothes looked pulled inward.

"I will give you all the opportunity… whether you are commoners, or slaves, to serve Gravemarch…" He looked at the crowd that was beginning to stir. A trembling slave broke through the crowd and crossed the boundary guarded by the royal knights.

The royal soldiers reflexively tried to drive the slave away, but David saw him, and in his heart he smiled. With a little trick of magic he remembered from Caelan's memory, he jumped down toward the slave.

He landed slowly, his robe fluttering in the wind, billowing as his feet touched the ground.

"Your Majesty, forgiv–" A soldier tried to apologize, but David stopped him with just an outstretched hand. The atmosphere became silent. The slave freed himself from the soldiers who were holding him, falling to the ground and crawling before David.
