"While he isn't the strongest devil, he's the strongest in the terms of the Rating games." Issei added on "If Sirzechs Lucifer or Ajuka Belzebub were allowed to compete I doubt they would lose to him."
"Okay, but gaining that many points cant be good for the numbers?" Kiryuu asked as a gain of three thousand points was insane.
"You are correct. Gaining that many points in a match is impossible and the match would most likely never take place. But Riser Pheonix return match is going to an exhibition match. It's also a chance for the underworld to forget about the terrorist attacks of late and watch the champion fight." Kiba informed her.
"It's a special event there called it the Emperor's ten matches." Ravel said.
"Something Rias is going to record all ten of and watch." Issei said as he shook his head "I personally don't care for the champion's fights I've watched in the past. Sure they are interesting but I don't see the hype around him fighting."
Ravel was smiling the whole time, "It's a great honor for my brother as well as the Pheonix family. Even if it's an exhibition match, the chance to be an opponent of Emperor Belial is quite rare and there is no reason to refuse a match like this. And because of that, I will be returning to the Pheonix household temporarily so my brother doesn't make a fool of himself."
The door to the club room opened up once again as Rias Akeno Azazel, Sona and some of her peerage were with her. Nothing was good if that many people barged in when they had just left the club. "Okay," Issei said seeing them.
"It's the beginning of a new school term but I regret to inform you that there is some bad news." Azazel said as he tried to calm them down "Okay it's not that bad but it's still bad news." They heard him exhale as he started up again. "Some of the followers of the church, mainly warriors are currently rebelling. They are rebelling under the pretext that the church is no longer following the creed of Devils and Fallen Angels are enemies. I can't exactly blame them, out of the blue a peace treaty appeared and they were expected to fall in line. Many warriors have had to stop doing their old jobs of hunting vampires and other monsters. And now they feel unsatisfied with what they are doing."
Xenovia was the first to respond hearing all of what Azazel relayed to them "Yes I can understand their point of view. Fighting for the lord and the church and against evil and then have it taken away overnight. They have yet to find a new meaning in their life."
She made a persuasive argument as she had once been in that position. But now that she has accepted her new life she has grown to understand it. "Yes, and most of them have stopped." Azazel said continuing. "However there are three leaders on the run with many soldiers under their commands."
Sona pulled out a sheet of paper and read off the names "The three of them are as such, Eminence Cardinal Bishop Teodoro Legrenzi, Eminence Cardinal Priest Vasco Strada, and Eminence Cardinal Deacon Ewald Cristaldi."
"I've heard those names before." Rias said thinking the names over.
"Can you repeat the positions again?" Koneko as of Sona.
"Cardinal Bishop, Cardinal Priest, and Cardinal Decon." Sona said once again
"Those are some extraordinary names on that list." Kiba said as the positions were read off again.
"To think that Eminence Strada and Cristaldi would be the ones on the list."
"I'm aware of who Strada is. That freak of a man dueled Kokabiel and won with Durandal and won in World War 2. What I could barely do a year ago the man did with a sword Xenovia has." Issei said trying to set down what was long already picked up by others.
"Yes, and many believe he surpassed Roland with his own blade." Azazel nodded saying that thinking back to the recent past. "That fact that he came out of that war unscathed shows his strength and prowess as a leader."
"Eminence Strada is over eighty-seven years old." Irina perked up.
Xenovia shook her head "Don't let that fool you his body never aged."
"Speaking of that wasn't he a top candidate for an Ace from the Great Seraphs?" Azazel asked Irina
She nodded "Yes Lord Uriel and Raphael both requested his service, but he turned them down. Said he wants to return to the lord upon death."
The mood changed hearing that he was selected yet turned it down. Asia however wasn't in the same position as everyone else. "I met Eminence Strada once when I was young. He seemed to be an honest and friendly person."
Irina nodded hearing that "All of the warriors of the church were under Cristaldi teachings at some point."
"He taught me how to fight against devils and vampires." Xenovia agreed with Irina.
"Yes, Cristaldi taught me how to use the Excaliber Mimic. I even heard that when he was in battle he was able to control three of six Excaliburs at once."
"Yes, there's plenty of discussion in the Grigori about him." Azazel said nodding his head. " He can only use three Excaliburs at any one time but to use more than three or even six at one time would be impossible. Moving along from these two behemoths more than half of the warriors of the church are involved in this rebellion dispute."
"Their power is legends among the devils. After all people like that are extremely rare." Sona said as she was adjusting her glasses.
"This Teodoro Legrenzi, he is the youngest and his position of Cardinal Bishop is a special case."
Asia raised her hand getting their attention "I've never seen him before. I've heard his name before but it's said that he's a mysterious person."
"I've only ever heard his name. I don't even think Sister Griselda knows who he is." Irina said
"Getting back on topic." Azazel gathered them back together. "We have interrogated some of the captured warriors so far. And we know they are headed to." His index finger pointed down to the ground "There coming here and they don't want to talk." There was a collective groan from everyone as if it wasn't one thing it was another. "Don't get so down. So far there have been no casualties on any side."
Sona sighed hearing that "While that's an amazing statistic, this could turn out to be a full-scale war. Terrorists can seize the situation here, we don't know how any of this will be played out."
"Yes yes, you still need to be alert of what is going on. Rizevim is still out there. I doubt he will be doing anything to rile up the church to cause a rebellion like this. But you can't rule it out or be cautious of any new factors."
"Holy sword and this school…" Saji said as he looked over at Kiba "I'm sorry I should have said that."
Kiba shook his head "No it's quite all right, that is in the past. And it's something I've gotten past."
"Speaking of Holy Swords." Azazel thought of something "Irina Xenovia Kiba, This would be a great time to show that you are surpassing your predecessors. Show them that in team DxD you are no slouches. Don't let your guard down when faces these rebels just as you would versus Qlippoth."
Later in the night down in the bowels of the mansion at the pool team DxD gathered there. It was the major players of the team for the most part as Dulio, Griselda, Vali Bikou, Arthur, Kuroka, Le Fay, along with Tobio Ikuse of the slash dog team. Sona and her team had other things to deal with that were pre-planned and were unable to attend.
But it was a party at the pool the finest of festivities. And by finest, it had devolved into a showing off of powers as who could do some of the weirding things as the water was splashing around as the others were covering themselves with magical barriers or just umbrellas as to not get wet. It was good clean fun as they heard Gasper calling out "Help I… can't swim!"
Koneko, Ravel, and Le Fay watched as Gasper suffered from his hubris. "It's not that deep." Koneko told him.
"You need to learn how to swim!" Issei shouted at him "The water is shallow you should be able to reach the bottom. Even Koneko can do it!"
"I'm a vampire! I don't like water!" He shrieked out.
"Your a daywalker let alone a devil. You don't have those issues." Issei's logic clicked on in Gasper's brain as he figured it out as he was able to get situated and then able to stand there. The problem was Gasper dressed as a girl no matter what and his swimsuit didn't help as it was a one-piece was a flora print on it.
"He's so cute when figures it out Nyan" Kuroka rubbed Gasper's head as she was showing off her body as it was barely covered by a skimpy black bikini.
"We should do this more often." Rias said as she was laying down next to Akeno as Issei was rubbing lotion into the two of them.
"I have to agree with you." Akeno smiled as Issei was working away.
It was winter in an underground pool and they wanted to sunbathe. Issei wasn't gonna argue with the power of magic for the results. He also wasn't going to argue with the fact that he got to go all hands-on with them. And that he didn't as he was oiling them up and somewhat playing with them.
"Say Ise about my front side…." Rias said as Issei was oiling Akeno as much as he could as she was moaning. "Maybe we should head to the bed for that, the bath might also work."
"The beyond is always an interesting thing." He smiled at her knowing what might happen with Rias flirting with him and that alone made him happy.
"Yes, the bed sounds amazing." Akeno moaned out as he was rubbing her back. "It would be much more intense than this rubdown."
"This is inappropriate!" Issei turned around and saw Rossweisse face was red seeing Issei being full hands-on with Akeno.
"I wanted my darling to apply sunscreen to me." Irina said looking down at him.
Issei looked up at the two of them as he wiggled his fingers "I can help with all your sunscreen needs." His smile grew even wider knowing that Rossweisse wanted something from him but wasn't in a position to ask him for it. It would take time but he would wait to see what she would do. Irina on the other hand he could do it with no problem
Out of the water came Ravel towards them "Lord Issei's time is very important." She had on a skimpy bikini but fit her amazingly as it was a solid orange with a metallic flake coloring. "And he's spent more than enough time on sunscreen."
Rias stopped her "Ravel just stop. This is a time to relax not schedules, and you need to do the same."
"I uh…" Rias stoped Ravel in her tracks "How do I..." She pulled out a book from her hand "Gather round everyone, I'm now taking allocations for sunscreen applications." She shouted out as a crowd formed. As Issei was pushed aside as they made the executive decisions.
"Ohhhhhh I'll join" He saw Kuroka make her way over to the group to discuss the finer things, Issei groping them with sunscreen.
He took a seat on the edge of the pool waiting for them to decide how everything was going to go down as he looked around as he saw Aisa and Xenovia talking as Xenovia looked serious as she was talking to Asia. Issei could guess what she was talking about… "Xenovia has changed." He heard next to him as he looked up and saw Griselda who sat down next to him. She had on a bright white bikini that was modest as it covered everything but amplified the looks she gave off. The lack of a nun outfit was a real positive as her skin was a smooth white with no imperfections in it. "They called her the Slashing Princess when she was a warrior for the church. Using Excalibur Destruction and Durandal she defeated and killed many enemies of the church.
"That explains way too much about her." Issei smiled hearing that one.
"She needs a lot of care. We both came from the same facility in the church and I was asked to be responsible for her. I did what I could for her but now she's gone from a small child to being strong and tall. I did what I could to teach her how to behave like a lady."
"She's more of a tomboy than a lady."
Griselda thought about it "I suppose so but once she met her partner Irina, she would show glimpses of her acting her age and even being a lady."
"Yes, the quirky tomboy Irina and Xenovia. A perfect match made for each other with the ability to adapt." Issei had seen Irina and Xenovia train together how they acted on the battlefield the two of them were a perfect match for each other. "Two girls made for each other."
Griselda kept the smile up "Be that as it may when I heard she became a devil I fainted. But now that I see her as she's having a normal life I feel much better about it. Even now she wishes to succeed the Sitri heir and become student council President."
"Yeah at first that I thought she was trying to play a joke on us, but she is serious about it. Her friends are going to help her through thick and thin and that's all that matters." He told her.
"Yes, She really is enjoying school life." Griselda took her gaze off Xenovia and looked at Issei "Please take care of her." Griselda said to him as she got up.
"Wait." Issei reached up and grabbed her hand before she could make her way over to what she called her own daughter. He handed her a small folded piece of paper. "Read that later, anything on it would be helpful. And I would prefer you not pass any of the contents on to Rias. I for once would like a leg up on this." He let go of her hand as he watched Griselda stash the paper away.
"I'm not your destined opponent, he is." Issei heard behind him as he looked behind him and saw Tobio Ikuse pointing at him. Vali only laughed hearing that as he walked off. "You need to at least listen to what the plan for the day is."
"I'll be upstairs." Vali said as he left the room.
Tobio shook his head as he saw Issei looking at them as he approached them "I need to thank you Hyoudou Issei for dealing with Vali."
"Dealing with? What did I do?" Issei asked as Tobio reached into his jacket and pulled out a photo and handed it to Issei. Looking at the photo he saw a younger Tobio with a group around him. Four girls Two guys all around the same age and smaller child with silver hair. "That little brat is Vali?"
"You guessed it nothing but arrogance" Tobio laughed hearing Issei's accurate description of Vali. "He was more arrogant than he is now."
"The rest of these people I'm assuming is the rest of your team?"
"Yeah, we formed as a team 4 years ago because of Sacred Gear-related events. And after that, we have been working together as a team." Issei handed the photo back to Tobio "I lived with Vali for an extended period so we know each other quite well. So that's why I can't thank you enough."
"So is he hostile towards you?"
"Far from it, he's clingy so I avoid him." Tobio put the photo away " He's like an annoying little brother who wants to fight at any chance he can get. But now his focus is all in on you and off of me for once. And for that, I have to thank you."
Issei scratch his head hearing that "If your strong enough that Vali wants to fight you, then why don't we see you on the front lines?"
"Guard duty and behind the scene work is something that fits me and even my team members."
"I see I see." Issei said as his focus changed to a black dog standing next to Tobio.
Tobio patted the dog on the head as he was the dog was looking at Issei. "Jin loves to do this."
"Can he speak? Because he might want to speak to the Ddraig?"
"No Jin cant speak, He understands us but he can't speak." Tobio changed the subject "Vali was watching you have fun with applying sunscreen on the girls. He was very interested in the action of you touching butts."
Issei's had a dead stare "Seriously? Of all things he's an ass man?"
Tobio laughed hearing that "The things you learn in life. Anyways you showed us all interesting techniques. But I have other things to deal with." He said as he took off as Jin followed him.
Issei turned and saw that the group was no longer a couple of people as almost all of the girls were huddled around as well as Kiba and Gasper were there as well trying to get on the list. "It seems as if you are popular no matter the subject." It was Dulio of all things as he put his hand on Issei's shoulder "Maybe I should find out how good your sunscreen application is."
Issei looked up and shook his head "Going to have to have a hard pass on that one."
The following afternoon however was much different. During the lunch break, Issei watched the Church girls along with Kiryuu handing out leaflets to all the students they could. "These leaflets are our proposal for the next Student Council President Xenovia. She can do anything she sets her mind to!" Kiryuu said handing them out as they were doing whatever they could to get her name out there.
At a minimum, all of the girls were happy to be handing out the leaflets to the others. There were upsides to their upbeat attitude as mainly the church girls were well-liked with whoever they were around. Issei heard plenty of the people talking after looking at the fliers in an overall positive attitude. And that was somewhat odd as the students tolerated their religious tones and embraced them as people.
As they went around the school Xenovia had a sash with her name on it as she gave a speech to people out in the courtyard. "Fellow Students of Kuoh Academy, I am Xenovia Quarta candidate for Student Council President. I hope that you will listen to what I have to say." Her voice carried on over the crowns of people.
Issei watched from the sideline as Koneko did the same. "Everyone knows her quite well." Koneko said as a crowd formed around Xenovia and the other girls as she was giving a speech.
"It's something new from Sona's operation." Ravel said as she came over to them.
"That and everyone likes her." Issei added "Coming from their standpoint Sona is a hard person to like. Xenovia just attracts people to her."
"Do you think she can beat Hanakai?" Ravel asked as the said person was having a chat with Xenovia.
"I don't see why not. The sports clubs love her and will support Xenoiva unanimously." Issei said to Ravel.
"I have a friend in the News club." Koneko brought up "They said that Xenovia is at a disadvantage to Hanakai. Mainly because she worked with Sona and produced results so she has an advantage."
"But she's incredibly popular." Gasper who was quiet this whole time spoke up from watching everything going on. "Her personality makes her popular among males and females. And many of the first-year girls like her."
Issei got a chuckle about that "I have a feeling that Xenovia could attract women no matter what." Issei felt a fist smash into his leg as it was Koneko. He rubbed the spot where she hit up "Calm down I'm not calling her a lesbian."
"I have to agree with Lo... Issei." Ravel corrected herself "Xenovia has helped plenty of the sports clubs out. So she has made plenty of allies who will come to her aid."
The odds were set and only time would tell if they were true. But After school ended for the day and as Rias Akeno and Xenovia finished their work everyone gathered for Taiyaki at one of the outdoor stalls in the town. "The custard ones are so tasty." Ravel said as they were looking over what to order.
"I'm a fan of the originals." Rias argued, "You can't go wrong."
"If it's a pastry Koneko is going to eat it. With her appetite for sweets, every girl would crave it." He said as the first few batches of food came out as they were sitting down at one of the tables.
As Xenovia went to grab some of the food she saw her hands were shaking. When they noticed her hands were shaking they felt a wave of pressure wash over there as it smothers them. "This…. Durandal…." Xenovia said not sure of what was going on.
Everyone turned around to see a group of people around in front of them. "Buonasera, young devils." In Front of them was an old man with white hair dressed in the clothes of the church.
The elderly man's face was covered in wrinkles but the figure betrayed his age as he towered over all of them. Old was just a description for his age, but his body was at the pinnacle of what it could be as his legs were the size of Issei alone. Before anyone could do anything he disappeared making no noise. Issei flexed his right hand as the hilt of his sword appeared in it as he felt the massive lug of a hand press down on his left shoulder.
Everyone backed away as they got into battle positions as he spoke up "I come from the Vatican." He cracked a smile as his voice was deep. "My name is Vasco Strada." He turned slightly to face Xenovia. "Warrior Xenovia it seems that you have become a devil."
"Eminence Strada… It's been a long time since we last spoke." She said as there was dripping sweat. One man alone broke her tough attitude and threw her into a nervous wreck.
He reached into his robes with his free hand, pulled out a piece of paper, and handed it to Rias. "This is for you."
Rias was quick to open it up and read it as Strada let go of Issei. "This is?' She asked
"It's a challenge letter. And as of now, we are formally challenging you to combat."
"You have got to be kidding." Rias wasn't so happy to hear that as she looked up at him. "Do you even understand what is going on right now? You're supposed to be high-ranking members of the church and…."
They heard a tsk tsk tsk noise coming from Strada as he was wagging his finger at her "You are young considering that you are a younger sister of a satan."
The blade on Issei's sword extended outwards slowly from the hilt. "It would be best if you left this endeavor." He said as the tip of the blade stopped as it touched Strada's robes. Strada rubbed Issei's head, messing up his hair as he disappeared and reappeared next to another two people.
The one that stood out the most was not what towered over everyone but what was being towered over. There was a smaller person between the two older men who looked as if he would still be in grade school. His black hair and childlike face were enhanced by a majestic presence he gave off almost as if he was royalty. Rias looked at the child "I presume that your Teodoro Legrenzi?"
"Yes," He nodded "I am Teodoro legrenzi." He took a deep breath in as he tried to calm himself as his body was shaking but he spoke loudly "I'm protecting the rights and views of the exorcist. Your group may be good devils but there will always be a need to eradicate the evil devils and vampires of this world. I cannot accept that they are not being punished for their sins, even if this goes against Archangel Micheal's will." As he was speaking other exorcists appeared surrounded them revealing the size of their force.
Durandal appeared in Xenovia's hand as she pointed it at Strada "Eminence Strada" She said to him
Strada smiled seeing the blade "Warrior Xenovia I trust your mastery of Durandal has progressed."
The blade began to glow with holy energy "See for yourself." She rushed towards Strada as he stood there ready to take the hit. He only raised his hand and extended his index finger blocking the blade. She was stopped mid-strike by the might of a single finger as she grunted trying to gain an inch.
"Yes, far from it." Strada said to her as she shook his head. The aura from Durandal was disappearing. It was only natural that Strada knew everything about the blade.
"Xenovia!" Irina shouted out as she leaped into the air with her sword drawn getting ready to swing at Strada. She however was quickly stopped by another sword "Cristaldi!" She was surprised to see the man blocking her attack.
He pushed her back with a small flick of his wrists "When you limit your vision so narrowly you lose track of things around you."
"Excalibur…" Was all Issei caught from Kiba as he rushed towards Cristaldi.
Issei sighed hearing that as they thought he was past it. They watched as the two of them went at it. Cristaldi's body twisted and made a minimal effort to dodge Kiba's strikes. The two of them picked up the pace as Issei was able to keep up with their movements but everyone else was losing them. "Should we?" Murayama asked pointing towards.
"And get hurt? No." Issei told them. "These people are well beyond your skills. And even the ones they trained."
"Holy Demonic swords. So you're the survivor of the Holy Sword Project they talk about." Cristaldi swung his sword as it threw Kiba into the ground making a crater with Kiba in the center. "But your movement is impressive for your age." Kiba groaned as they heard him from the crater "Don't underestimate me as you did with that lowlife of Freed." Cristaldi said as he sheath his sword.
"Rias did you see that?" Issei asked her if she saw the same thing he did.
"I did… That's no ordinary sword." She said as the sword had similar powers to the Excalibur fragments. "Kiba, Xenovia, Irina!" Rias called out to them as the two of them stepped forward getting ready to fight.
Strada held out his hand urging them to stop "Princess Gremory, we came here not to start a war, but to make an announcement." Hering that the followers around them disappeared as soon as they came as did the leaders did the same leaving them alone.
"I don't like this." Issei said as that watched on as the others didn't have much to say as they were too busy reflecting on what just happened.
