Chapter 150 - Chapter 150: Cognitive Modification

The white child set off fully armed from within Renji, pouring into Angel Devil's stomach, then rising up into her throat, until the inside of her oral cavity was filled.

Both sides of Angel Devil's cheeks bulged with the white substance, and seven or eight white bubbles popped from her nostrils, which were now connected internally.

Angel Devil couldn't hold on any longer. She couldn't help but roll her eyes back and open her mouth.

"Ough…"

She vomited a large amount of white child onto the grass in front of her. Her current expression was no longer one that a human could make.

Renji had a look of contentment on his face and released his hands. Angel Devil, losing her support, didn't fall off him at all. The connection between them acted as a support, firmly fixing Angel Devil in place.

Her hands and feet hung limply downwards, and her pair of pure white wings also drooped lifelessly.

"Did she pass out?"

Seeing that Angel Devil made no movement except for the sound of her vomiting, Renji tried asking a question, confirming that she had indeed fainted.

He gradually withdrew, and Angel Devil finally fell from Renji's body onto the grass. She lay there, motionless, as the remnants of their encounter began to seep out.

"Phew..." Renji sat on the grass, wiping the sweat from his forehead, his anxious heart finally relaxing.

He had to admit, this time was truly heart-stopping. During the process, every time he thought of each moment taking away his actual lifespan, he wished he could push even harder.

Fifty years, he thought. Exchanging a full fifty years of life for one passionate encounter. Is it worth it?

Thinking this, Renji looked again at Angel Devil, who lay disheveled on the grass. Her belly was still very distended, and the white child was still flowing from her.

However, it wasn't as intense as it was when she first fell.

Renji smiled contentedly and nodded, speaking a life truth—or rather, a fallacy.

"Well, since a man is a man, he should live for that and be with women. Otherwise, what's the point? Compared to that, a mere fifty years of life is nothing."

Renji also lay down on the ground and fell asleep.

He slept very deeply, immersed in dreams. Renji didn't know how long he had slept when suddenly, a dull, thunder-like rumbling sound came from the sky, from an unknown direction.

Along with it, a dazzling purple light streaked across the sky, illuminating the world for an instant.

"It's thundering!"

Renji was startled awake by the sudden sound and light. He sat up with a jolt, raised his head blankly, and gazed at the sky with somewhat hazy eyes.

It was already late at night. The sky was like a huge black curtain, with nothing but stars and the moon.

"Am I... dreaming?"

Renji shook his head vigorously and re-examined the night sky. After confirming that there was truly nothing there, he was about to lie down and continue sleeping.

Just then, he looked at Angel Devil lying on the other side. She had already returned to normal. Her mouth was no longer leaking.

Her lower belly was still slightly distended, but most of the white child had already been expelled. It wouldn't affect her body.

She lay there quietly, her face serene, sleeping soundly.

Renji stood up, walked over, and squatted down. He gently reached out to help tidy her slightly messy hair. Afterwards, he tidied up the area and helped Angel Devil put her clothes back on.

He then picked her up and placed her where he had just slept. After all, Renji was male and had a higher heat dissipation. The grass where he had lain was warmer.

After doing all this, Renji felt weariness attack again. He chose a soft patch of grass, lay down, closed his eyes, and quickly fell into a dream.

When Angel Devil woke up, the sky was already bright. Judging from the angle of the bright and warm sunlight, it was probably around nine o'clock in the morning.

"Awake?"

Renji was sitting on a large rock, idly playing a game with small pebbles, the kind he used to play as a child.

Following the sound, the moment Angel Devil's gaze met Renji's, a slight blush appeared on her cheeks. She instinctively touched her abdomen.

Her abdomen had completely returned to normal. Devils, or fiends, have very strong digestive systems and accept all comers. Overnight, all the white child in her belly had been absorbed into her body as nutrients.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Angel Devil returned to her usual calm and lazy demeanor. She nodded gently.

"Renji... do you... do you really have a way to solve your own lifespan problem?" she asked quietly. "I absorbed a full fifty years of lifespan from you."

A notification chimed in Renji's mind, but he paid it no attention.

For humans, fifty years of lifespan is by no means an insignificant number. Angel Devil began to feel regret. After all, at that time, due to Renji's innate ability, she had almost lost her sanity. Her actions were made when she was in a state of enchantment.

"I already said, there's no need to worry," Renji replied calmly. "And please don't have any psychological burden about your attitude towards me afterwards. Otherwise it won't fit your character." He paused. "Remember? I said before, no one wants to die for no reason. Instead of worrying about me, look at this first."

As Renji spoke, he threw an item towards Angel Devil.

She caught the thrown object and found that it was a book. But the book was so tattered that it was almost unrecognizable. One could say it was utterly ruined. It was as if with a gentle touch, the entire book would turn into a pile of shredded paper. But even so, Angel Devil still tried to discern the faint writing on the book.

She painstakingly made out two words from the blurry, incomplete text.

"Na... Nagasaki?" Angel Devil read aloud in confusion.

Renji nodded in response. "That's right. It's Nagasaki. Normally, Nagasaki is a city outside of Tokyo. So, do you have any special memories or impressions about this city?"

"A city... outside of Tokyo...?" Angel Devil frowned.

She reached out and touched her head, thought carefully for a moment, then slowly shook her head, indicating that she had no clue.

Renji was not surprised by this and continued. "I see. There's one more thing. Actually, before I became your partner, I once saw your personal information at Makima's place. According to that information, your birthplace was a small village near the sea." He paused. "So Angel... do you still remember which city that small village belonged to?"

"Of course it's Tokyo," Angel Devil said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

But Renji shook his head. "Impossible. If it were some ordinary towns or villages, it might be plausible, as those places would still have some inhabitants and a few factories. But coastal villages are absolutely nonexistent." His voice grew more serious. "I personally went to those villages on the outskirts of Tokyo. There were barely any rats, let alone people."

Renji recalled a conversation he had with Kishibe, where he learned some concepts about other places from her.

"Angel," he said slowly, meeting her eyes. "I now strongly suspect... that all of your perceptions of this world may have been maliciously altered by some force."
