Ayla stared at her for a moment, as if contemplating what to do, before she nodded.
"Is that so? You spoke as though it was too much for you to handle, so I didn't want to bother you anymore."
"I feel so guilty after hearing of the sacrifices you've made to serve my husband and mother-in-law, so I'll pay you for looking after them."
Elena's jaw ticked.
What, pay her? Just what was this woman feeling like being so condescending to her?
Elena was always the first to bare her fangs and never gave people the chance to look down on her.
However, growing up in the orphanage had been a blow to her ego, so she always kept that part of her hidden away.
But situations like this, when people tried to pay her for doing ordinary jobs, often brought back the memories of the menial tasks she had to do for people who knew she was an orphan.
So hearing Ayla say this deeply infuriated her.
